So...

Halloween is BY FAR my favorite holiday. I generally try to come up with a costume that is either totally random, excessive, or both. Past costumes I have no pics of inclde Ed209 from 'Robocop' and the Baby Zombie from 'Dead Alive'. Here are some past costumes I do have pics of:

In 2003 I was the honrable Major McCheese, elected offical of McDonaldland.

Last year I was Ripley & the Power Loader from one of the sweetest f-ing movies ever, 'Aliens'... BTW, that's my pal Chris as Gene from 'Wet Hot American Summer'.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243655/

So now that I've set the scene, I am going to give a look @ the progress of this year's costume... He-Man riding Battlecat.

Image3.jpg

I've already been working on this thing for three weeks now so I've made loads of progress. I'll make a massive intial post of pics of what I've done so far, and then I'll update as I do more stuff. LEt me know what you all think!

This first post will be of pics of the making of BattleCat's body.

To build it I used cardboard, ducktape, hot glue, chicken wire, heaps of wood dowls, and batting used for quilts... @ least I think it's for quilts. You get the point.

A note: The concept for how I intend to 'wear' the BattleCat part of this costume is that I want it to look as though I'm riding him as he's jumping through the air.

To achive this, BattleCat will have straps attched to him that will go over my sholders to suspend him in the air in a leaping position. Additionally, there's a hole through his back through to the bottom of his stomach that my lower body will go though. My legs and feet will be in all black. Additionally, I'll add fake He-Man legs on either side of the tiger that attach to me @ my hips to make it look like they're my legs. The hole in BattleCat's back will be obscured by the massive saddle He-Man rides on.

Having said that, here are some pics...

DSCN1638.jpg

Humble beginnings.

DSCN1641.jpg

A bit more structure. This is a pic from behind... That's tiger-ass you're looking @.

DSCN1646.jpg

This is the maing body, cover with chicken wire and then padding with batting. The right side is the chest and the left is the ass.

DSCN1650.jpg

Here's a pic of the shells of the front arms. The area you might imagine as being as the paw is kinda just a place holder... They're gonna be ripped away and replace with the paws as a one of the final steps.

More to come! Give me your thoughts!

Dude, power loader + Ripley = f**king ace. Badass stuff dood. :(

omg!! the ripley one is hilariously awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's more pics of BattleCat's body... The previous pics represent about a weekend's work. These next few are probably about a day and a half. (Keep in mind sometimes a 'day' means 3 or 4 hours where others are more like 7 or 8).

DSCN1658.jpg

The leap between the last posted pic and this and the next (simply a diff angle) was about 6 or 7 hours of work of really structuring the shapes of all four legs, covering them with chicken wire (which resulting a endless scrapes, making me look like I f-ing was attacked by BattleCat), and then covering them with the batting.

DSCN1659.jpg

Again, just another angle. Note in both pics the green and yellow material on the ground.

DSCN1662.jpg

This jump between pics means another few hours. Covering the chest in the green fuzzy material took about 30 mins. The legs took a little over an hour a piece. The front arms have to wait, as the neck, shoulders will be built up to fit the size of the head once its done.

Adding the fur took for f-ing ever becasue I used hot glue (not much of a sewer). The seams a fairly hidden because I was fairly anal, but I'll cover the bad ones with the yellow stripes later.

thats insanely awesome. i cant wait for the finished product.

Please tell me your Gene humped him some fridges.:(

This next batch of pics center around making the head. They probably represent a total of about 10 hours over the course of a week this time, as working paper mache involves drying time.

DSCN1665.jpg

This first pic represents about 3 hours of work building the skeleton of the BattleCat mask which covers his whole head except his lower jaw. I'm crazy-anal about doing paper mache because it can look really ****ty if you're not. Having a REALLY structure shell allows you to use smaller strips of newspaper which can all but get rid of seams.

DSCN1671.jpg

This next pic shows the first step of paper mache.

DSCN1674.jpg

This shows another (near final) step in the paper mache of the front of the mask. Note that spikes towards the top need to be added. Also the mask covers the better part of the back of BattleCat's neck... The back portion will be added when mask is attched to the body already.

DSCN1680.jpg

Here's a pic of the cardboard shell of the lower jaw in place... It's just resting there... it won't be attached till the rest of the head is attached to the body and fully painted. The teeth are, obviously, just different lengths of pencil.

DSCN1684.jpg

This pic is of the lower jaw after is was paper mached to add a smooth inner-mouth and a lower lip. The part below the lip will be cover by fur. Also the spikes @ the top of the mask have been added. More paper mache is needed to smoothly blend them into the shape of the mask though.

DSCN1688.jpg

Here's the finished lower jaw. It's been painted black and fur was glued on. The teeth were then painted white and a tounge was added. The tounge was made of a sculpting compound called Sculpy. The inside was then cover with several coats with high-gloss polyurethane to make it look wet... you can tell more in person... it looks f-ing sweet.

Up next, BattleCat's head and body meet for the first time. As always... let me know what you think!

You really need to make a Transformers costume.

Thanks! 'Aliens' is battling it out with 'Total Recall' and 'Robocop' for my favorite ****ing action movie.

As a result, Ripley in the Power Loaded was an obvious choice for a costume. The intial idea was to do the Queen Alien, but when I was watching 'Aliens' for inpiration the Power Loader seemed WAY funnier, especially after the idea of doing a doll riding around it in poped into my head....

@ first the idea was to get a cabage patch kid and bloody it up (bassically making it into a make-shift garbage pail kid/ripley stand in), but as I make the costume the proportions just made is impossible. Funny none the less.

i cant wait to see the end product

Hahaha. Funny you say that. This year's initial idea was optimus prime, but I finally decided against any robots, as the past two years I was ED209 from 'Robocop' and the Power Loader.

I wish I had pics of ed209, but I only had one friend take pics and their camera was stolen the next day... the singature element to that cpstume was i F-ING GLUED IN CHEAP COMP SPEAKERS INTO IT AND USE MY IPOD TOP PLAY SOUND EFFECT FROM THE MOVIE.

Some choice clips included 'you have 20 secons to comply'. Late in the night I got wastedand was yelling 'i'd buy that for a dollar' if that menas anything to you 'robo' fans out there.

Agreed... and early birthday. Nice avatar btw. Can't wait to see it in 3D!

i would never be able to put that much effort into a costume...lol

So here's a load of pics showing the seemingly easy step of attching the head to the body... Keep in mind, this costume will be in the presence of thousands of drunken *****es (most of whom will be dressed a Steve Erwin with a stingray attached to their chests... If you're planning this as your costume... umm... re-think it... or @ least go as a string ray with steve erwin attached to you stinger. mix it up a bit.)

DSCN1678.jpg

Here's of a pick of a lot of wood dowls I built up to make the head more secure. The point... It has to be sturdy enough to survive drunken frat boys with emotional problems.

DSCN1690.jpg

Here's the first pic of the head attached, but its a major leap. I frst attached it, then built up the neck and chest to match the size of the head, and I stuck in the lower jaw (still not attached) just to check proportions.

DSCN1692.jpg

Here's a pick showing I paper mached the back part of the mask so it slopes down to meet the neck.

DSCN1698.jpg

BattleCat get's paintjob... and is a bit askew.

DSCN1696.jpg

Another angle.

DSCN1705.jpg

May not look like it, but tons of stuff was done for this pic. The lower jaw is offically attached. All of the green is in place. Some white on both front arms still needs covering, but its near complete. The eyes were added a test (created in Photo Shop and then printed on photo paper).

eyes.jpg

Since the pic above, the eyes have been revised to look a bit more pissed. They're not attached yet, but here's a digital version of one of the eyes.

Your thoughts are appreciated , as always.

Hmmm... you wouldn't put this much effort into a costume? congrats.

So... Up till now I've focused on BattleCat. The pics represent about 3 weeks of work, not every day or anything though. Here's some full body pics as a bit of a prgress report. Keep in mind, the eyes were just a test @ this point. They will be replaced.

Image3.jpg

A reminder where I started...

DSCN1709.jpg

And where I'm @ currently with BattleCat.

Steps needed to complete BattleCats include:
***the updated eyes to be applied
***front and back paws created, painted, covered with fur, and attacked.
***the tail to be created and attached.
***the gaint saddle to be created (paper mache) painted, and attached.
***last and not least, add some f-ing yellow stripes already.

Of course... In additon, he smeared mud on his a$s, inquired about his bottle of dik cream, and was punched for fondling a stranger's sweaters. meh.

Yeah... Not many people are really. Both my brothers and I are a little crazy about it, as we were raised in a house where October ment family organized zombie movie marathons and dumbies of corpses hanging from ropes out our tress

thats amazing. you have some talent!

Thanks! Not a lot of applications for this type of talent, but I keep the producers of hot glue sticks and ducktape in business.
