MAY - Fan Art Contest - ENTER HERE

Finally done with my entry for this month's contest...

I decided to go with a Spidey pic featuring a few villains: the Lizard, Venom, and Doc Ock...

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

As always sweet and very distinct you need to get into cartooning

I'm not 100% happy with it but here's my entry...

VenomSpidy.jpg

Looks good- Venom's knees are the best part- and the perspective, of course.

the-rake and KER1, I love those two.

La_She-Beast: WOW that's a great one, creativity alone should make it deserve an award (I don't read comics, but was MJ ever possessed by the symbiote? Don't think so). It's funnygreat.

Hey, thank you! :)

This is seriously twisted.

Indeed it is! :sym:

Colour's great- and as always love your style. Your Catwoman is still in my faves list.

Okay, I know that I already submitted a pic for this month (which I never do) but I finished this drawing this morning, and I'd rather this pic be my submition. Let me know what you all think. I have a couple different versions of this (vector art- "comicy" feel, a colored version, and a carnage version), but this is my fav.

Very nice. The design/composition is sweet and i'm especially digging the lizard! Slight criticism: not sure how well it works with the twin light sources: moon and streetlamp. Also, maybe it's just me but the highlights on spidey don't seem to match the colour of the light...

i think you should make a new thread thread to showcase your art, expecially these other versions you have

Can't disagree...

On the shaddows, I was more thinking of two light sources: the light in the pic, and an unseen source from the upper left, out of frame. In the end, this is the frist time I've messed with shadows and I know they don't really work, but I'll try harder next time.

As for the light on Spidey's suit, it was really just a case of personal preference, where I preferred something that doesn't quite look right. ;)
Ah well.

the threatning three very good

Thanks!

Thanks! thank you everyone that commented!

Yes, the moon is huge as it normally is in the comics! LOL!

It's weird too that I get the most comments on the one I feel least confident about... If I redrew this I think it could look pretty darn good!

Mattchew, I agree with the person that said you need to get into cartooning, that would be a cool version!

I don't know why but the lzard reminds me of a rich snob

hmmm... i think i already posted, but I cant find it... so... just in case...

FREAKING AWESOME! Love your entry! The rain is a great touch, and I always love when people do near-symmetric poses and the just don't do half and then flip it! Looks WAY better this way!

the webbing is a great effect, and the suit texture is the texture I WAS GOING FOR (but failed to achieve) on mine! Great all around!

You know... there are a lot of good artists floating around these boards, but there are maybe only three or four with a style so unique and instantly recognizable that I know who drew what without even looking at the name. Off the top of my head, KAD is one of those people. And, most certainly, you are. You have a very distinctive and unique style, Mattchew, and I always look forward to seeing what you come up with in these contests.

Kudos! :woot:

Dude You rock.

I know the compliment was aimed at Matchew (And well deserved it was) but I appreciate your mention.

I have always resisted the urge to borrow from current artist trends, glad smeone likes my work.

Matchew is one of my favs and also one of the most unique

thanks! that's really nice to hear.

very cool... i love the technique... especially the kind of smooth shading on the skin (that looks amazing by the way) and the, for lack of a better word, 'pixelated' shading on the suit... i know its not pixelated, but it has kinda a rough charcoal effect...

I'm not putting it into words right, but the point is I think the contrast works really well.

Very slick, and an extremely good interpretation of the film's look put into illustration form. If Marvel ever wanted to give the Spider-Man comics a more realistic, Daredevil styled artistic approach, I think this is defenitely the way to go with Venom.

Possibly one of my favorite Venom pics.
