I've been wanting to start one and it looks like it may happen if the others show a little effort and motivation.

Has anyone here ever been in a band or currently in one? If so; any advice?

I was in a band. We sang eighties songs for 2 hours and then we broke up.

I'm still waiting for the reunion tour. :cmad::csad:

If you start a band please don´t start your band name with ¨The¨

Hmmm some of the possible names included "The".
One of them didn't use it like it's mainly used. That one was The Night Gwen Stacy Died the other was The Decca Audition but I don't know if I'll use either of those.

I'm in a band where we just mess around. The first thing you need to do is to have fun. Once you start practicing just to make progress and lose the fun element, you might as well quit. If you aren't having fun and your goal is to just become famous, then there's no point.

BTW, what instrument do you play?

Vocals. I'm currently learning the acoustic guitar and the keyboard. Eventually I want to work on the electric. Mainly vocals though; I've been "elected" lead singer.

So you have band members already? Because my next biggest advice would be to search hard for a drummer. A good one can be hard to come by. Also, if You can't find a bassist, maybe find a guitarist who would be willing to make the switch. Guitarists on the other hand, they're a dime a dozen. So pretty much the drummer will be the hard position to fill

We have good drummer. And another stand in. We have a few options for bass.

you already failed. the first rule of starting a band is not tell anyone your starting a band. the only time when you tell people you've started a band is once you have your first show booked...or if you need someone to listen to the music to get their opinion. i predict things will fizzle out within 3 weeks.

I'm in a fairly successful band at the moment. What do you want to know?

Good. Because a strong rhythm section can make or break a band. Make sure they work well go together too. Technical skill is all well and good, but if they can't play well together, then it's not important if they can play circles around Neil Peart and John Entwistle. Thankfully, my drummer and bassist are brothers, so they have a chemistry that no one can match.

Don't mess with any of the other guys' chicks and make sure everybody is in 100% or nothing. They have to be commited to it like flies on you know what.

I was in a band. One day while trying to figure out the current plot of teen titans the percussionist started shaking me and told me "the money, the drugs it's over!" We had only performed once! Only one girl showed up and the only drug related thing was the drummers inhaler!

The best advice I can give, is to not subscribe to anyone else's perceived notions of what a band is. Also, most people in bands are *****

Dude, it's a band, not a business venture.

Well, dude, its a band. If they want to play shows and one of them can't go to the practices, or don't go to a show, that messes everything up.

im in a band, we only got one finished song and 3 or 4 songs we tamper with to get justtt right. lyrics are on the way, and we finally found a bassist and drummer.

im on guitar with my friend tommy on guitar as well.

were still currently nameless, we play like a trippy, light metal.

Yeah, but that doesn't actually matter unless your plan is to show off to a bunch of strangers in bars.

It matters, however, if the reason they don't show up is just plain laziness, but the priority should be the well being of your bandmate and not how it will affect your oh-so-important gig at your local in front of 5 strangers.

As long as things are booked well enough in advance, none of that would be an issue anyway.

Not all bands are about having fun. Some are nothing more then a paycheck. (And can be a damn good one at that.) This is why cover bands exist, and before any of you begin complaining about how much cover bands suck, tell me the last time you got a $3000 check for 3 hours of work. It all depends on what you're trying to do. Anyone who tells you a band isn't a business is kidding themselves. It doesn't mean you have to be a corporate *****e, but it takes money. You need money for cds, merchandise, shirts, stickers, **** your fans will want, and you'll want to eventually have these things available because it will get your name around. Before I waste any more of your time though, what kind of band we talking here? Original? Cover? Wedding? What?

They still suck, though
