I love this thread. With the last couple of films they've really done Thor justice on the big screen and established Thor as the superman of the MCU. Long story short, we're all not worthy

Thor has definitely grown. He was essentially an Asgardian Tony Stark who grows into a full-fledged Ironman hero without the PTSD and overcame most of his personal demons where Stark still hasn't yet (though Stark is still far improved from his low in Age of Ultron). Both of them suffered in similar though not identical ways. Both lost their parents, had to deal with their family's empires, great loss and hardship plus falling into leadership roles that put immense strain on them. Plus both had to lose their power and get humbled before they regained it again.

I like that parallel.Tony starts as a genius billionaire dealing the most powerful weapons on earth and Thor starts as a godlike glory seeking prince with the most powerful weapon in Asgard.

Even when we first met him Thor was still a warrior God who wanted to fight the good fight though. He was just naive and arrogant in how he went about it and saw the Frost Giants in particular as nothing but monsters.

Look at the top right corner you can see Thor doing a super jump.

Wow I'm just now noticing this.

Yeah, it occured to me that both have the same brash egos. Thor was/is the god of thunder and had an arrogance about him when we first meet him in Thor. He had to lose almost everything to become worthy of regaining his hammer, his power and learn that he needs to mature.

Similarly Tony has to go from his rich playboy lifestyle of casually using his father's company to live a lavish, carefree lifestyle ignorant of the damage he causes. He nearly loses his life then has to build himself back up and learn he needs to grow up too.

They're similar arcs but to be honest one is written way better than the other.

Tony's character development in Iron Man 1 is driven by a near death experience and witnessing first hand that his weapons are in the wrong hands and killing innocents. It's a strong origin story.

Thor's character development in Thor 1 isn't as believable. He's 1500 years old, he doesn't really witness the folly of his own actions (his attack on Jotunheim mostly works out) so the root of his development is purely being humbled by his dad depowering him for a long weekend.

I always thought we should've been shown a grander comic style origin story for Thor e.g.
    a) The Frost Giants who get caught up in Thor's attack on Jotunheim aren't shown as just monsters
    b) Thor straight up fights Odin before he's banished/depowered
    c) Thor spends years on earth believably learning to be humble

That scene along with the Frost Giant battle are the most Thor like fight scenes in the MCU.

Hemsworth just comes off as cool guy the whole interview. This is the best part.

I really liked his scene from the animated series where Thanos uses the Time Stone on the Avengers. Most of them become old almost instantaneously. Cap, Falcon, Hawkeye and Black Widow end up disappearing from exposure to the stone. Hulk becomes Maestro and then disappears too. Iron Man's suit turns off...

But Thor takes it all in his stride. He is now Old King Thor and keeps on aging. As Thanos uses the power of Time Stone against the asgardian he mocks... "Feel the centuries overwhelm you." Thor answers: "Overwhelm me? The passage of time only makes asgardians more powerful". He then proceeds to turn the power of the stone agains Thanos himself.

It would be cool if they acknowledge that at some point in the MCU. It makes sense.

I agree that was an awesome scene in Avengers Assemble, it would be cool to get something similar in the MCU.

While Captain America is my favorite superhero I would say that Thor is 2nd. The arc he has gone through in all the MCU movies has been great. As with many adaptations Thor is way more powerful in the comics. However seeing Thor having a better representation of his powers and abilities in Ragnarok and in IW has been truly great to see. Yes his entrance in Wakanda is blazingly awesome and when he jumps into the air and lands with the massive lightning blast its like-To Thanos and minions= Welcome to loserville A-holes!!
The issue I have going forward is how in interviews that Feige keeps saying that Captain Marvel will be the most powerful hero in the MCU. If thats the case where does that leave Thor? I have issue with that. In the comics Thor has been one of if not the most powerful hero in the 616 comic universe. Now he will be outclassed by Captain Marvel? I just dont see that as right. Its like Thor is being relegated to 2nd tier again. And no I am not sexist or anything. How can you do right by Thor and then take it all away again?
