I choose mostly earth. Why? If it's set in Asgardian, how are we supposed to measure the power of Thor? All the gods or beings in Asgard have powers more or less equivalent to Thor. Thor is not Mighty anymore. If the location in earth, he can lift trucks and have his Mjolnir struck a building into two.

It should be mostly in Asgard...I like the idea of a different world.

Besides, Thor isn't average in asgard; he has at least 3 times the strength of the normal asgardian male.

The Thor comic for the most part is a story about Thor on Earth.
Thor is a god sent to the human world. He fights to save mid guard (thats what Earth is called right?)

Midgard for the English translation.

i'd like to see thor on earth but i wouldn't mind too much if the movie events took place on asgard

Hey all! :)

The bulk of the movie simply MUST feature Earthly Thor, otherwise...

1. Its a waste of the license. This is Marvel's 'Mighty Thor' - the fundamental basis of Marvel's Thor is that he is a fish out of water.
2. It does nothing to set up Thor on Earth for the eventual Avengers movie, and in fact actually hinders it.
3. Hollywood simply want to take the easy option and jump on the Lord of the Rings bandwagon with a 'generic' fantasy movie. Didn't work with Eragon...won't work here.
4. Asgardian Thor before his life as Don Blake was not a hero, nor was he a sympathetic character. He was a bully. No one will like that Thor, and if you don't use that Thor you take away the whole reason why he was sent to Earth in the first place!
5. (As chiefchirpa mentioned) Thor is less special when he is amongst other gods. If everyone has super-strength then whats so special about having super-strength!? You also lose a lot of the mystique of Asgard by revealing it all in the first movie.
6. Its disrespectful to the comic. Do we need a history lesson over what happens when you make a lot of changes from the comics? I'll tell you what happens - the movies SUCK! You would think after years of mistakes Hollywood might see a pattern emerging. I don't want Hollywood's hubris ruining Thor as well.

I defy anyone to come up with a rational argument as to why it should be Asgard only.

Hey there KC! :)

You ruin everything that is Thor by having the movie Asgard only.

So what are you saying here, that while they can all lift giant boulders, Thor can lift a slightly bigger boulder? Who the hell is that going to impress? :whatever:

If everyone is super-strong then there is nothing special about super-strength.

Well too bad for the fans who want Thor to take place on Earth because the script was already delivered to Marvel and it is going to take place on Asgard "with only a mention of earth."

Hiya Still A ThorFan matey! :)

Its not a matter of wanting the movie to take place on Earth. IT HAS TO TAKE PLACE ON EARTH! Every piece of logic screams that it should take place on Earth. Ergo, having it Asgard only can only be ILLOGICAL. There is no grey area here, its black and white.

I'm still waiting to hear (and subsequently demolish) some of the Pro-Asgard Arguments here.

This is the movie franchise I care about. Hollywood can screw up the rest but by the bristling beard of Odin not this one. They can keep their Galactus Clouds, Illegitimate Super-kids, Contrived Venom origins, PG 13 Punisher, Hulk Poodles, Superhuman Catwoman, Businessman Von Doom and the rest of the nonsense. Just don't make a mess of this one.

Either would be fine, but I'd rather see mostly Earth.

I would like to learn about Thor through the eyes of a human.

So, they're directly going for the Ragnarok arc. Oh... (speechless)

Mark Protosevich is responsible for Poseidon. We all see how that goes down (pun not intended). I'm not convinced that he's a good writer.

I would pick Entirely on Earth if I had the chance.

I'd love to see them make it like Unltimate Thor, is he a god or a mad man with a power suit?

Well said.

I just want the whole fantasy side of Thor; I want Frost giants, I want trolls, I want Loki etc.

Maybe the first one dealing more with Earth, and the second one being more of an asgardian epic, the third one being Ragnarok?

The 1st should ask the question is he a god or a mad man with a power suit?
The 2nd should be Ragnarok
The 3rd should be rebirth.

Thor probably has the best rouges gallary in the M.U. Thor would better benefit from a movie on Asgard with such villians as compared to earth.

Look at the list

Kurse
Malekith
Loki
Destroyer
Surtur
Ulik
Mangog

It is my opinion that you can have a better movie with them if taken place in Asgard because depending on their scheme it is Asgard related anyway, plus you can get away with more in terms of spx and writing. Not saying I don't ever want Thor on Earth, but not for the first movie.

I mean it would be cool in the first movie to see Loki with the help of Ulik try to take over the throne.

2nd film maybe you can Thor and Odin take on Surtur and Kurse

and the third can be on earth in where Thor gets dispatched be the decree of Odin. Loki finds out, thinks Thor weaker or more vunerable on Earth, thus sends Mangog down there to destroy him and so on.

I would prefer a setting mostly on Earth.

I do have one question, how exactly did the Donald Blake/Thor connection work in the comics?

I really love the Thor stories set in Asgard, so part of me really wants it to be all Asgard. But I agree that he needs to come to Earth at some point.

For his origin, Earth is the best. Do complete Asgard Thor movies in sequels.

One of the best. Most people will say Spider-Man. Iron Man is no slouch either.

Actually, it should be the other way around.

1st movie starts where Thor has amnesia or forgets that he has all god powers. Next movies should go forward to Ragnarok. Movie audiences are not Thor comic book readers. Start simple first then complex: (earth, great strength, belt, double strength, mjolnir, loki, asgard...... -> ragnarok). Give them time to digest the lore one by one.

Come to think of it, creating a non-cheesy Asgard setting will require detailed and expensive creations through CGI or plain sets. It's better to be done in 2nd or 3rd movie, when Thor is given a bigger budget than the 1st movie.

Honestly? I just want a Thor movie MADE, if you get what I'm saying.
