I can see Daisy Ridley as Shadowcat.
She might be too big for that role by the time it's available but I certainly wouldn't object.

Neeson or Mortensen for Magneto
...
Start earlier. Maybe not at the beginning, but start earlier. I'm in no mood for yet another X-Men franchise where an already established team with no accomplishments and no investment from the film later has to retcon the universe into odd shapes to accommodate the storyteller's lack of interest in the X-Men or the universe they inhabit. You want to do 20 X-Men justice? Don't try to include them all as team members in your very first film.
Anyone else think Joel edgerton would be a good Wolverine
Omega Red as Wolverine villain sounds good.
Do you really need to ask the question? Of course the Holocaust is more resonant in the world than Yugoslavia or Rwanda. That history plays a huge part of the pathos of the character, and makes the audience sympathetic to his position. Make it Yugoslavia or Rwanda it won't resonate with the audience nearly as much.
So... The suffering of others who have gone through extermination and genocide post WWII can never equal the suffering of those from the 1940's?
On like... A human level? This is a different argument than the one DrCosmic made which got to what I was positing. It's the genocide we are familiar with but as time goes on... But the rest of your post, for it's good intentions goes off the rails.
Well, you're wrong about that. World War II may be getting more distant, but people haven't exactly forgotten it. The Holocaust hasn't been forgotten. I'm a high school teacher now, and talking about the Holocaust in high school now is no less prevalent than when I was in high school and my class was taken to the movies to watch Schindler's List. We're still reading The Diary of Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel's Night. Holocaust survivors are still being asked to speak. The history is no less raw.
Was I saying that the Holocaust was not worth teaching in schools? Was I making some argument that it's historical lessons don't matter? Or was I saying that in a fictional story that tying one character to that event causes some problems given the distance in time and that the reality of human events does unfortunately provide other real world tragedies, far less enshrined in the public consciousness but no less illuminating about the oft time savage nature of human beings. And that tying said character to more recent events side steps plot convolutions.
You just presented the best argument for why his origin SHOULDN'T be changed, and why historical events aren't interchangeable. Sorry, but Iraq and Afghanistan? They don't have the effect on the psyche of the public consciousness that Vietnam had. They just don't. And to say otherwise is historical ignorance. And sadly, disconnecting the Punisher from Vietnam has weakened the character. He needs the jungle, the dirtiness, and the death count of that war to shape him into who he is, and he doesn't get from our modern day conflicts.
Well then... What you want is that either Punisher stories for all time are only able to be told in the time frame from the late 1970's to maybe... Like what the year 2000 or so? Cuz other wise Frank is a very old man taking on a task that on their best days even a younger person with his skill sets would find hard to pull off. That's not even getting into the idea that "the jungle" is a defining aspect of Frank Castle as the Punisher. While there are differences to the wars of the last 16 years (contemplate that for a moment) and the Vietnam war that they all have questions about their legitimacy, that all had Americans in foreign lands where the difference between the populace they are supposed to "protect" and the "enemy" became beyond blurred, that these conflicts left many, many a man (and women) that served asking what is being accomplished at best or leaving them with emotional scars at worst (or real physical damage on top of all that)... Well I fail to see how there's anything specific to the Vietnam War that contributes to Frank that doesn't also exist in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Again... If you want Frank to either be only used in period pieces or be someone closing in his 70's fine... Others want him in the current world and as such the origin needs updating.
Historical events are not interchangeable when it comes to the weight they have on the public consciousness. That's true when it comes to wars, and that's true when it comes to genocides.
Fine... But the MCU has already done it with Tony Stark and Frank Castle with the Vietnam conflict. So they on those characters at least already have flunked your authenticity test. Maybe they won't do anything to Magneto's back story but keeping the character tied to WWII is going to mean jumping through some hoops as to keeping him youthful beyond the established confines of credible casting if the stories of the X-Men and their most well known villain are to be set in the present day.
Sabretooth really needs to be done properly.

I thought Liev did a pretty decent job.![]()
Aside from their abilities, all mutants age a lot slower than humans. This was the reason why some mutants like Magneto believe that they were chosen by evolution to rule over the world and the weak humans. This resolve was only strengthened by Eric's experiences with human savagery during the holocaust.
The existence of mutants have been known to the world throughout human history. This however, have been kept in secret by governments because mutant numbers are still small and manageable. To avoid panic among the citizens. The government have been in talks in the background with Eric and Xavier's institution to quell and quickly silence any incidents involving mutants. The X-Men were sent in covertly.
Eric have always been against this stating that it was supposed to be a sanctuary for mutants and not an institution of puppets under human control. Despite this Magneto went along with it for years as he still believes in his
friend's vision.
Sometimes during these incidents, Magneto and the entire X-men have seen first-hand what humans were capable of towards mutants out of fear, hatred and wanton discrimination. Over the years Magneto became angrier and angrier until during one of their missions where they found out about experimentation done on mutants by another country.
This led Magneto to ultimately leave the team and start his brotherhood. At first, the brotherhood went underground as the time was not yet right for mutant domination for their numbers were still few.
Add the fact that some members had to face off against the Avengers. Luckily, such incidents were few and the heroes only know them as "enhanced" for Nick Fury nor the government have yet to disclose this information.
Post Infinity war, the world was in chaos. The destruction left by Thanos left a huge part of Earth in ruin and millions died around the globe.
This was the time Magneto was waiting for. And so from out of the shadows, Magneto and his brotherhood announced to the world than their rightful rulers have arrived.
The Avengers were quick to answer the new threat but were stopped by Nick Fury. "Gentlemen, meet the X-Men"
Just start from the beginning. Mutants have always existed just In small numbers (Charles, Logan, Erik) after Thanos' rampage, the radiation from the Infinity Gems started activating the X-Gene in millions of people. A mutant commits an act of terrorism, fear turns to hatred and Charles starts taking in students to protect them from hatred and prejudiceSo... A bunch of backstory we either never see OR something which gets revealed in an exposition dump?

It does not need to be a compressed exposition into one movie. They can introduce the concept slowly to explain how mutants were always there throughout a few movies. The same way they tackle new concepts in the current MCU.
Are you the arch enemy of Captain Underpants by any chance?
