Media response to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann excessive?

I haven't heard any luckily, although I saw a Mr Men spoof with Mr McCann (which I thought was a bit soon at the time).

There has been very little coverage about this in the us so far...

Well if the McCanns believe their daughter has managed to get all the way over to America, they'd fly over to look for her, I wouldn't put it past them.

I think they set up some sort of Find Madeleine charity, where people donate money to the family so they can go on expensive holidays looking for their daughter.

That has been a longtime suspicion by many of the public, although it's not said out loud for fear of offending people.

The way they went about disrupting the police investigation, and jetting off to see the Pope (at whose expense!?), it seemed unreal.

Firstly, they should not have left the children alone to go off to eat- who does that at home, let alone in a foreign country??)

Secondly, they should have realised that everybody is questioned in this sort of investigation, why should the parents be ruled out?

Thirdly, how could anyone know that the children were left alone to begin with? Was the 'abducter' an opportunist who just happened to see her sleeping, or was it someone who knew they were neglected?

That is exactly what I thought. Thankyou. I thought for a long time that the news attention and campaigning was disruptive to the investigation, and NOT helpful. How many hundreds, if not thousands of phone calls must the police have gotten? How many blonde girls that were mistaken for Madeiline?

I doubt her Mother did it. Common sense tells you 2 things.

1.) Huge public exposure like the case is appearently getting greatly ups the number of leads you get, so any parents who realy wanted to know what happened to theyre child would defiently want this.

2.) After Jonbenet, if you killed yor kid, youd want it to be a low profile as possible; espec. if you have money.

You say that, but it's public belief that this is a deliberate ploy to remove suspicion from themselves.

It's true, the police are getting an awful lot of phone calls regarding a small blonde girl sighted with adults in somewhere like Morocco or Malta. They can't ignore them, so they are spending time rushing off to investigate when the chances are Madeleine (dead or alive) is still in Portugal.

The house she was taken from was messed up by the parents too, a lot of potential evidence was contaminated and damaged by the interferences.

Like what? I would assume they searched the house for her themselves right away; its what any logical thinking person would do...plus, you need a motive. Why would a rich, seemingly happy family murder theyre little 4 year old girl?

I'm only saying what the police have reported.

It's not murder people suspect them of, it's accidental killing or something. I don't know how, or why, perhaps someone got angry and hit her?

What point? Theyve been looking for theyre kid in one area since early may, now its been 4 months and shes obviously not there...so you go to another place to look.

Yeah I get what you mean, but there was a moment when the Chief of Portuguese police or someone actually said the McCanns were disrupting the investigation and turned the scene into a media circus.

What would be more likely would to say she fell or something and bring her to a hospital. The fact that there was no ransom or anything, means that if it wasn't done by the parents, it's either a 'rescue' from neglecting parents, personal sex thing or obession turned ugly.

I see what you're saying.

I guess we have to look from all perspectives;
a) One or both parents angrily hit their daughter and she died, they panicked in the heat of the moment and buried her someplace. They calmly went off for dinner and discussed how to deal with it, deciding to bring mass attention to the idea someone has kidnapped her.

b) The parents went off for dinner leaving their children alone in the house. An abducter, by chance, went up to the house knowing there were children sleeping and no parents around, and took the eldest one. He either killed or sold her, or has her hidden somewhere.

c) The parents went off for dinner leaving their children alone in the house. Someone who knew the family, and knew the children weren't at the restaurant, took the opportunity to grab the girl and flee.

I don't know what happened at the restaurant.

She went missing in Portugel. I live in Belfast, Ireland. There are posters in my city of Madeline saying "have you seen Madeline?". Before the start of a movie, there was a "have you seen Madeline?" bulletin.

Plus, well over 100 days later, it still makes the front page of every paper ahead of every other news item.

Yes, that is excessive.
