Men and Abortion

SickBoy said:
The animals we raise just to kill and eat are far more developed than any fetus, so why should it be ok to kill millions of animals for food but abortion be considered evil?

Because people need to eat. People don't need to murder unborn children.

I'm fine with the women deciding on my behalf whether they have an abortion or not, provided that I can decide on their behalf whether or not I am willing to support the child.

Nope. If they want the baby, then you have to help. If they don't, you're not allowed to voice your say.

And somehow few people realize how hypocritical that is.

I'm just giving my position, not the reality.

You're missing my point. People don't NEED to eat ANIMALS, but we do. We raise millions of animals year after year for the SOLE PURPOSE of killing and eating them, animals that are FAR more developed than any fetus. You can't say abortion is uneccessary murder and this is not.

Abortion is often done for the sake of both the mother and the unborn child. While some people have no choice but to eat animals, developed countries have plenty of options but most of us eat animals and support the eating of animals because we like meat.

And why is that a bad thing? We have canine teeth for a reason. Far be it for me to waste what evolution has clearly given to me for a reason. And who's to say that killing and eating animals is any worse than killing and eating plants? Buuut, the morality of meat-eating is another subject entirely.

And please, tell me just how would a child prefer to be dead than say... adopted? Abortion is a cop-out for irresponsible parents who dropped their pants before they were ready.

Men should have no business whatsoever in the debate on abortion. If there are votes regarding abortion laws, only women should be allowed to vote. That's just what I think. Any thoughts?

First of all, I hate touching upon this issue. I refuse to take a stance, but you sir are ignorant about this issue.

1. It is illegal to restrict the vote to anyone, thats not how democracy works.

2. It takes two people to make a baby, a man and a woman. Even if the man isn't carrying the child, it is still his child, just like it is her child. If the woman I loved carried my child and had an abortion without even telling me about it, I'd be seriously pissed, even if I did agree with the idea of an abortion.

I find it interesting that you're implying that we shouldn't eat animals, but we should be allowed to kill unborn children.

That's often what I have heard that many PETA supporters say, that animals have a form of sacredness, but humans are profane.

Its a long thread, but if you read all the way through you would see that my stance has changed and that what i was saying there didnt come out the way i meant it to.

I dont want to restrict anyone form a vote, i am pro-democracy. And i know that men do have the right to voice their opinions on the subject since they are half the equation in a pregnancy. But i think that it al comes down to the mother and it should be her choice.

My stance on abortion is similar to my stance on the if the draft were re-instated. I dont believe other people should have the right by law to force me to do somethign that i dont believe in and affects me more than anyone or anything else.

Actually I do.

Why dont men have a say in their own childs life?? And if the men dont want a baby they still have to pay for it if the girl chooses to keep it. Its interesting how men still have to live with [or not get to live with] and pay for the baby and get NO say whatsoever.

It is just Hypotrical and wrong.

But how would you feel that basically half of you was killed without your say. The final decision should lie to the mother, but the father should have some say.

That's another thing I hate arguing about: the draft

Im NOT saying we shouldn't eat animals. I eat animals. Im saying
1) that murdering fully-formed adult animals because we like to eat them, in my mind, is far worse than a mother killing a slightly developed two-month old fetus, and
2) we have the right to kill and eat animals if we want to. Why shouldn't women have the right to an abortion?

If you are a guy, think about what it would be like if your role were reversed: You are in high school, you have a girlfriend. You use protection, but you still end up getting pregnant. Your girlfriend gets scared and takes off. You can't support a child, and your parents would disown you if they found out you were pregnant or they are too incompitent to help you out. Maybe you aren't even in school and you are totally on your own, just scraping by taking care of yourself. You knwo it is a hard decision, but would you rather get an abortion or go through pregnancy for 9 months, perhaps with no family support, go throuhg childbirth, and give away your baby to adoption hoping it get to have a good life? Or keep the baby, living on your own, having to drop out of school and work two jobs just to barely support yourselves? Or do you get an abortion, keep your life on track?

I just think that abortion affects women so much more than it affects men, partly because a lot of guys, especially young teenagers, run out on girls when they say they're pregnant.

Why is it worse? At least we make use of the dead animals. What can you do with a dead fetus?

Killing animals for food is called survival. Survival of the species. Abortion is ensuring we don't surrvive. The next time you say oh I don't want this kid it is an inconvience remember all those women who can't get preganat and long for childern, like my g/f.

The only thing I would be wondering is why are teenagers having sex when they should be getting an education and preparing for adulthood.

Because anybody who's anybody has sex all the time. Regardless of whether or not they're ready for the responsibilities that sexual activity comes with.

Are you serious? TONS of teenagers have sex. You know that. And you must know it would be impossible to stop them from having sex. I started having sex with my girlfriend when i was 17. That didn't stop me from graduating and continuing my life and education.

Hopefully in the near future birth control advances will allow for simple 100% effective birth control devices with zero likelihood of pregnancy.

And you see nothing wrong with this picture?

No wonder STD's are at an all time high.

Of course a man should have a say. Let's say this girl wants to have an abortion and the father of the baby won't let her. He thinks it's wrong. Why shouldn't he get to take it? If she get's an abortion that will lead to a very upset man. If she doesn't , then the man will be alright because he saved the baby. Seeing as how the woman would be unhappy either way, shouldn't somebody be happy?

i'm not disagreeing with you. i'm not saying i'm pro choice either. but it's a fetus until it is born. and abortions are done b4 the 24th week of pregnancy. some tests prove that a baby doesn't feel until around the 28th or 29th week. just thought i'd share that.

they never taught me that in high school
