Having had a roommate recently go sort of nuts due to meth, in an extremely annoying and kind of creepy way, meth has definitely landed on my list of things never to try, along with heroin and karaoke. Anyway, apparently Aronofsky of Requiem fame has been making some anti-meth commercials for tv, and I just found out about them. They're pretty interesting.

I can't believe that people will still use that crap.

Those are pretty effective, very hard hitting. My only problem is that anti-drugs campaigns are almost exclusively aimed at young people, and people tend to ignore children and teenagers who are affected by their parents having drug or alcohol problems.

LOL, if you're over 18, your ass is already a lost cause I guess.

Hence the focus on trying it once means you're f**ked. Plus, if you've got parents on meth, odds are even if they quit, they'll still be crazy enough to **** you up emotionally as a kid one way or another.

wow . . . gripping, gritty, realistic . . . now if they could only get Aronofsky to bring that kind of gritty realism to the world of anti-marijuana commcercials :o

Meth is horrible stuff that's just corrosive on every level. It rots people's bodies and their brains and it tears apart their social abilities and that's why so many families are impacted so heavily by it when a member starts using it. We have a pretty big meth problem in my town and you can usually spot people who are using it pretty easily. I feel sorry them, really. It's one of the most destructive drugs man's ever come up with.

heh...some of those are okay, a lot of them are funny though. they're just too obvious and cliche.

I've heard it's one of the few drugs that people can never kick.:csad: :down

Being the civil libertarian that I am, I hate the war on drugs. This. however, is trumped by my hatred of meth and tweakers.

The "Parents" one reminds me of Leonardo DiCaprio in Basketball Diaries

I think that weed should be made legal. But meth and coke are too dangerous to be let out.

Yeah, the dark underbelly of watching Brak Show reruns and eating nachos until 4 am

That's not true. I was a tweaker for about 6 months. I'd just went through a messy divorce and was feeling pretty self-destructive. It was a wild ride that I wouldn't wish on anybody. It's way too easy to let meth take over your life once you get started. Apparently, I do not have an addictive personality, cause I haven't found the drug yet (meth, cocaine, alcohol, tobacco) that I couldn't just quit. Marijuana is the exception, but I don't consider it to be a hardcore drug like meth or coke.

I actually quit a board once because one of the posters was a meth head, and managed to turn every other thread into her own private rehab, or her personal party. And then she bought all her other friends along to join in the therapy. Turned the place into such a 'LOOOOlz I@m high!' or 'I hate my life and I want to die and drugs councillors won't help meeeeee' gig that I went out in blaze of flaming glory rather than trudge through the swamp to find the discussion.
