Ok...then I'm gonna make a thread comparing Blade Runner and Nightmare on Elm Street...they were from the same decade, and country. Who cares if ones a sci-fi movie and ones a horror movie, and they really have nothing to f**king do with each other, that's apparently enough.

Ok, you didn't read my post at all, did you? German Expressionism was a movement in filmmaking. They were both opperating under a shared assumption of how films should be made and both used similar techniques. Breathless is a film nior, while The Girl at the Monceau Bakery is a short film about a love triangle, but they are both comparable as they come out of the French New Wave and thus share a great deal of common ground in their approach to filmmaking. Since when did genre become the defining quality of a film?

Whilst I generally disagree with the notion of 'one or the other', the above post makes you out to be a bit special.

I've had the good fortune of watching a screening of Metropolis in a theater last year, and it blew me away. I could trace every single genre movie I've ever seen to this one film.

Get the hell off of the thread if you don't like it. Can you be a stuckup grumpy bastard else where?

Definitely prefer Blade Runner. Although put together some kind of Gaff/Krueger fedora wearing hybrid entering your potentially implanted dreams, and leaving little cut up origami reminders he'd been there, would be great!

Nosferatu is great but Metropolis is a masterpiece.
