Actually, I think Denzel Washington would be a really good Frank Castle.

Actually that might indeed be a good idea...in a strange way.

But i still vote for Dolph to reprise that role

He was already a really good Frank Castle in Man on Fire. It's probably the best Punisher adaption so far (other than the Tom Jane version).

Stevenson was also a good frank castle...though the mvie itself wasn't...good.

Though my fav Frank Castle is still Dolp Lundgren.Heck, when the movie came out, he looked EXACTLY like Jim Lee's Punisher. He was good in that role too, again the movie itself was the problem

Michael is gonna kill this. His comments on the backlash were really respectful to the community. And he seems to really appreciate the character. He already fits Johnny personality wise. Man i actually can't wait for this.

I've got no problems at all with a black Johnny Storm, but I'm wondering how the dynamic between him a Sue is going to work out.

Michael B Jordan's name was attached to this movie basically as soon as Trank became involved. Jordan starred in Trank's first major feature film. IMO, it's likely nothing more than good ol' fashioned hollywood nepotism rather than "oh, we looked far and wide and he's the perfect choice for Johnny Storm." I am doubtful that they seriously looked elsewhere for other actors of any color. Can I be sure? No, but it's not hard to put 2 and 2 together. And let's get real here, there's probably a thousand good looking male actors in Hollywood who could do a decent job in the role. But that's just the way it is in the industry.

Exactly. From everything we've heard, Jordan didn't out-audition anyone, nor was the studio aiming for diversity, nor was anyone trying to change Johnny for change's sake. Jordan was cast because he's talented and the director's buddy. That's it.

I don't mind Johnny being black, especially since I think Michael B. Jordan is a great casting choice. But I do mind Sue and Johnny being of different ethnicity, as well as Johnny's age relative to the rest of the team. It's not so much that MBJ can't pull off Johnny Storm; it's that he is miscast in the context of this particular scenario. However, that's not really his fault (it's Fox/Trank's).

Why is Johnny and Sue's being different ethnicities a problem?

I wonder if we will see Michael Fake Jordan in all of Tranks future movies. That is if Trank gets any future offers after this one

Pretty much. I don't even understand how anyone would ask that question (no offense).

Sure that one can be adopted, but it doesn't work that easy. Adoption isn't so simple. It only adds far more unnecessary questions and variables to their relationship. Which one was adopted? At what age did the adoption take place? What are the psychological effects the adoption had on them? Did it make one feel alienated or defensive of the other? etc. It only complicates a simple basic concept that worked just fine and for no good reason.

It only complicates things if you want it to.

That statement doesn't answer anything. I'm not even fully sure what it's supposed to mean.

He's saying you're making it way more complicated than it needs to be for the purposes of the movie.

If you're going to make all of your posts exactly the same, and add nothing constructive besides "Jordan and Trank suck", I'm going to start deleting them.

You didn't ask anything.

You're saying it complicates things. I'm saying it only complicates things if you want it to. Why can't Johnny and Sue just be brother and sister and have the exact same dynamic they've always had?

Because mixed-race siblings are not standard. It may be more common than it used to be, but it is still going to raise a lot of questions from large numbers of people. They are going to be asked about this every interview and every talk show they go on promoting the film. You may say that it shouldn't be an issue, but in the real world it will be.

So?

They are going to be asked about this every interview and every talk show they go on promoting the film.
Ok?

You may say that it shouldn't be an issue, but in the real world it will be.

Now what does any of that have to do with the context of their relationship in the film?

Because if audiences are confused, then they won't go see the film. They also can't ignore it if they are directly being asked about it every time they try and promote the film.

So it has to be addressed, which makes things more complicated than they need be.

This.

This entire forum for this movie is pretty much everyone repeating the same thoughts over & over again. It just depends on who they are replying to. But everyone is doing it. But I will stop it at least

I believe questions are a good thing for a story. Who is this Darth Vader guy? Where did he come from? What were the Clone Wars? How did Obi Wan know Luke's father? What was Luke's father like? etc.

Distractions are bad for a story.

If this will raise questions or if this will cause distractions remains to be seen, but with as little as we now know, I don't think any of us have any idea how things will play out. But a skilled filmmaker shouldn't have any problem with it.

I think comic-book films tend to try to explain too much. Nothing makes me more uncomfortable than that awkward moment when they feel they need to explain the Superhero name.

I think the worst possible way to handle this would be: "I'd like you to meet my brother Johnny. . . oh, I know what you're thinking. He's adopted."

I'd much rather something like: "I'd like you to meet my brother Johnny." Then cut to the other person's face as we see the wheels spinning, but nothing more is said because the other person is afraid to ask - as they should be. That would acknowledge the question without being compelled to answer it.

Consider the alternative in which he asks: "You're brother and sister? How's that?"

"Well, since you ask, funny story really: my mother was raped by a black man. But my mother was Catholic and refused to have an abortion which resulted in the evil rape-spawn you now see before you. Aren't you glad you asked?"
