Transformers Michael Bays Says No to Transformers 2?

That's the thing, spielberg was not affected because he was only exec. producer. And since spielberg doesn't like this paramount deal, therefore, wouldn't wan't to direct TF2 either....or worse he doesn't wan't anything to do with paramount (which will leave him out of TF2).

Yea it doesn't make sense.

Guess we all have to wait it out and see what happens.

Hence why were on a message board. I love how people that are stating "CHILL OUT, FANBOY!!!!!" are also posting here just like I am. If I can't come here, like i have been for years, and have a discussion then **** this board.

I am behind Bay 100%. Paramount is royally screwing over the mass majority of HD movie disc consumers, who like me chose Blu-Ray instead of the floundering HD-DVD format. Paramount only did this because of the $150M bribe that To$hiba gave them, and so actual filmmakers like Bay are naturally going to be pissed about it. And to top it off, Spielberg still gets to choose which format his movies go to, because he is the biggest name in the history of movies, but people like Michael Bay don't have that luxury.

Paramount is screwing everyone over just so they can shag the ****e of Babylon, and Michael Bay decided to stick it to them. I am really pissed that he may not direct Transformers 2, but I still support him in his descision, and I really hope there's a way that he can beat the machine and see this situation resolved in a way that makes everyone happy (except for To$hiba).

It's not like the audience for Blu Ray is big compared to those who saw it in theaters.

He probably has a backend deal on DVD sales and is miffed, since he took a cut in pay to get the film made.

And like mentioned elsewhere, a negotiating tactic since he's not signed for the sequel yet.

I agree with Bay's standpoint on this even though it doesn't directly effect me.....I'd have liked to see him continue what he started well but hopefully they will get someone good, of course Spielberg stepping in to the breach would be awesome but it won't happen IMO.

spielberg will go to bay nd tell him to calm down.after 24 hours bay will do the sequel.

I think Michael Bay knows that Blu-Ray is the future of HD movie discs, and does not want to see the early adopters get screwed over just because some corporate monkeys in a castle got offered $150 million by To$hiba and Micro$oft. HD movies are the ultimate home theater experience, and Michael Bay wants as many people to get that experience with his movie as possible. And since Blu-Ray accounts for over 2/3 of the HD movie disc market, cutting out that market would naturally piss him off.

More likely, Spielberg will go to Paramount, kick some ass, take some names, and make them put Transformers on Blu-Ray. If he has the power to control which format his own movies are released on, he can probably get some leverage on films that he's executive produced. Still, yesterdays blunder by Paramount sucks for anyone who doesn't have that kind of networking.

For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"

In three sentences he:

a. Stated that Paramount sucks for not sticking with Blu-ray
b. Downed Paramount by stating they were now regressive in their format choice
c. Stated that they can take their sequel and shove it

Have you even ever read into his comments on various things in the past? He states how he feels, which I'm all for. He said blocky-looking robots were ******ed, amongst other things. I'm taking a neutral stance on this, but I honestly believe he will not be directing the sequel and probably not direct another movie for Paramount. History shows. I'm not a ****ing ****** for thinking this, like some of you said. That's offensive.

:whatever: I'll say this one last time. You are changing the meaning around bigtime. Literacy,...that statement, the way he worded it, is saying the situation and choice sucks, not necesarily Paramount themselves. For him to say Paramount sucks it would need to be stated more along the lines of something like this "Paramount sucks for doing this".

As for the second comment, don't see how he was "downing them". He simply stated that their making a bad choice from a business standpoint. Why would you want to stick with only one side if you can make profits from both.

The third I'll give ya because like I said earlier. He has beliefs and some values obviously and doesn't feel that it's ok to "stick it" to the other half of the market. If your views differ with someone your in league/partners with, wouldn't you drop out if there was no middle ground and your "partner" was going to make that choice regardless of your input or not?

I'm not trying to get you to like Bay or anything, it's just people overexaggerate others words all the time and it just annoys the hell out of me. This is all coming from someone who is in the middle too. I don't hate Bay but I also don't Love him, and I don't own either Blu-Ray or HD/DVD's. I'm still buying regular DVD's waiting to see which of those two becomes the king of the market and kills off the other one.

Yay! I can use $ in the place of S, I'm soooooo imaginative.

Face facts.. HD hasn't caught on widespread yet. So, cutting 1/5 of the market into 1/10th isn't as bad compared to those who saw it in theatres.

It'd be one thing if the HD market was bigger than it was.. it's not.

But for crying out loud, make your points without using the ever so witty $ BS..

HD-DVD or Blu-Ray is not even in the mass market yet. Regular DVD is still king.

Yeah, I'm sure he'd have said that about Betamax and all the other failed formats too.

Let's put it another way.

Let's say, for humor's sake, 3 million people saw the film.

Now compare that to Blu Ray sales on '300'

250,000 copies.

3,000,000 > 250,000

Now, since Transformers took in 306 million domestically.. divide that by $10 (average), you get 30,600,000 people. Now realistically, people saw it more than once.

So, again for humor's sake, let's say everyone saw it 5 times.. that's still 6,120,000 people.

Which, no matter how you spin it, is a bigger share than any potential Blu Ray sales.

The studio already made their profit, so this just screams of a backend deal that Bay has in place, and he's furious his profits are getting cut in half.

Michael Bay is upset over Paramount Pictures' recent announcement that "Transformers" will only be released on the HD-DVD next-generation format.

He states that he wants "people to see my movies in the best formats possible," he writes on his official website forums. "For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks!"

Mr. Bay also states that he is so upset over Paramount's decision, that there will be "[n]o Transformers 2 for me!"

Bay is such a baby.

The market chose Blu-Ray over HD-DVD, and so Paramount's descision screws over consumers. And Bay is PO'd about his consumers getting screwed! Is this hard to understand?

I highly doubt that Bay is truly pissed about the choice in format. I think Cth hit the nail on the head. Bay took a pay cut to get the movie out and my money is on a deal that he gets profit from the movie sales. So now hes pissed he wont be making as much.

well over 200 million dollars in ticket sales equals alot more than 6 million people. so do the math on that.

oh wait nevermind you did on transformers, im just an idiot lol

wow...there's a person with some common sense in this thread!

The same market where Blu Ray fans are "stacking the deck" by encouraging inflated numbers by buying more discs to make things appear selling more than they normally are?

Read the various message boards yesterday and you'd see hundreds of "Buy 5 Blu Ray discs to offset this loss, and show Paramount how wrong they are!"

For a format that was supposedly winning the war, you'd think they wouldn't need to do so.

Bay is ticked cause he negotiated his contract poorly cause he underestimated how well the film would be received. He likely figured that it'd make something like $100-$150 barely breaking "even" which would lead to the studios getting everything. Likely thinking that most fans would wait to see it on DVD as most cult films tend to do better on DVD by casual and the loyal fans.

And at $15-$30 a pop, it's more than movie tickets.. if Bay doesn't get a cut from the film, most people opt for backend deals to make money.

Plain and simple, it's a money grab, he gambled and he lost. That's what he gets for underestimating the franchise originally.

It's not the best math by any means, but really, 1.5% of the market if you include BOTH formats.

So really.. the studio doesn't care and contracts have been signed.

If anything changes, are we suddenly going to see people go "$pielberg shady backroom deal results in TF on both formats!"

Not even remotely.

Just when I thought the High Def DVD war couldn't get any more stupid or childish.

either way

blue-ray > hd-dvd

but

ps3 < 360

now thats quite the anomaly! hahahahahaha BAM
