Transformers Michael Bays Says No to Transformers 2?

The same market where Blu Ray fans are "stacking the deck" by encouraging inflated numbers by buying more discs to make things appear selling more than they normally are?

Read the various message boards yesterday and you'd see hundreds of "Buy 5 Blu Ray discs to offset this loss, and show Paramount how wrong they are!"

For a format that was supposedly winning the war, you'd think they wouldn't need to do so.

No-one is doing that, at least not nearly enough to make a difference. Blu-Ray has higher sales numbers because more people buy it, not because of some stupid conspiracy involving all Blu-Ray customers. If you think that Blu-Ray sells better because customers are "cheating," then why don't you go out and buy an extra 4 copies of "The Ultimate Matrix Collection?"

Timstuff, no name calling please.

agreed

disagreed...i'm one of the MANY who ended up with a broken 360. my opinion...

360 games > PS3 games for now but...

PS3 system > 360 system

i did to then got it replaced for free YES!

but yea 360 games and live are great.

the ps3 system is great but theres nothin to put in it yet.

execept 300 on blu-ray. very nice

No, because when PS3 launched, they packed the first 400,000 with free copies of a movie that was likely counted in the numbers.

And then the endless deals on Blu Ray discs, "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" pretty much non-stop from the get go.

So, yeah, artificially inflated numbers in the beginning, followed by a constant barrage of "the war is over, we've won!" and plenty of false PR spin (the Blockbuster 'exclusives', the Target endcap 'exclusive', etc)

If something is outselling the competition by 2:1, the losing product should quit, right?

If so, then Sony should quit producing PS3s... but what would that mean for Blu Ray?

You can't have it both ways.

Here's some fun reading if you want to see the whole "Buy 5 discs" mentality:

Agreed 100%! The PS3 system is ****, baby. The more firmware updates released, the more interested I'm interested in buying one. Just keeps getting better.

The Xbox 360 is my system of choice right now. I am an addict. Luckily, launch system is still kicking beautifully, no red rings! Knocks on wood.

Toshiba and Universal are just as guilty of giving away free movies as the BDA members. And a format war is completely different from a system war, so I see no comparison. With a format war, consumers loose. With system wars, consumers win. Big difference!

i'm glad they replace 360's and all but no one should have to. M$ releasing all those defective 360's shows their greed. they were eager to get the 360 out early so they could get a jump start on the PS3 instead of making sure that they weren't gonna die in less than a year...

...which is why i speculate that Paramount's getting paid a huge amount to go exclusively HD-DVD. they keep saying that it's the better format when it clearly isn't so and they do it without giving any specs or explanation to how they came to that decision.

Technically speaking, Blu-Ray is better on paper. But they haven't even finalized their interactive features yet (but it is coming later this year I've heard). Isn't that why most HD-DVDs have more features than BD? 300 being the latest example, with PIP.

yea hopefully the newer 360's arent defective like the first year ones.

well that's like saying "technically speaking, PS3 is a better system than the 360". just because the POTENTIAL hasn't be reached yet doesn't mean they won't unlock it. i'm assuming that blu-ray as a format is harder to work with than hd-dvd...just like the ps3 is a harder format to work with than the 360 even though, technically, you can do more on a ps3.

ok lets just say both systems are powerful, but they havent even reached their potential yet.

Disagree.

If HD wasn't driving prices down, manufacturing costs would still remain high.

Discs would still be expensive and not drop nearly as fast as they would with competition.

Again, you can't have it both ways.

As far as the promo deals, if you're screaming about Toshiba contributing money as a payoff, but you're ok with Sony and gang giving away free discs, that's pretty hypocritical don't you think?

Besides, the B1G1 deals have been around since the inception of Blu Ray, not so with HD which is only a recent thing.

If Blu Ray wasn't around they wouldn't be giving away discs either.. so, yeah, competition is a good thing.

You win some, you lose some. Have some dignity.

With Spielberg in control and with Spielberg backing Bay I have a feeling the two are going to strike big. Spielberg, as said in the article, hates a HD vs. Blu-Ray war to be stupid and according to this- so does Bay. So srry HD and Blu-Ray fanboys, but stop your fcking cheering and hollaring over your DVD-drive, this war SUCKS! And that's the truth of the matters.

With Bay making the stand and Spielberg most likely backing him up, chances are Transformers will now be released on all DVD-formats so that EVERYONE wins. Film watching does not need to be a segregation war, it's all about reaching the most number of people possible. So, hell yeah for Bay! With Spielberg backing him only one thing will result- imo- Transformers on all DVDs, and Bay on sequel.

And no, I'm not an HD or Blu-Ray consumer- thanks - on a large part- to this very ridiculous war.

well it stinks if they are only going to go with HDdvd because there is plently of people who are still only using the stanard dvd format since blueray and hd players are so dam expensive. I myself am still only on standard dvd format i dont have blueray or hddvd.

they're not saying Paramount's releasing it on ONLY hd-dvds...they're just saying in the "war" between hd-dvd and blu-ray they're siding with blu-ray.

they'll most likely be releasing a regular dvd version of TF since most of the market is still in regular dvd's.

Yeah, I agree 100% with those who know this is all media bulls**t. Bay just wants some more fans and some more money. It's all scripted, I tells ya! Scripted!

But I would be the happiest dog in the world if Bay stayed the hell away from TF2.

/\ Still "War, what is it good for? Absolutely NOTHING!"

Wouldn't that depend on who they got ? (paging Brett Ratner)

I dunno, at least Brett is a cool guy, and wouldn't sit there talking crap about the cartoon, toys, fans, etc.

Hey, I liked the first, but Bay is still a rude asshat. Plus a sequel needs much more than crazy shaky-cam and explosions. Yes, they could do worse, but not by much.

Ratner strikes me as a fraud, he makes claims that are pure lies.

I'm not really worried about him as a personality, he is very honest which is refreshing IMO, the thing is TF is doing so well b/c ppl love action and unless Cameron or Spielberg take over i don't see anyone doing it on his level.

With Spielberg being the KEY guy behind Transformers and knowing his take- obviously- about this fckin' stupid childish war (yeah, you heard right- HD and Blu-Ray are the ones acting like children, not those against the war- but I guess you have to be neutral and not own either to actually see the war for what it is) Bay has some pretty strong backing.

So, with Spielberg being the key guy who brought Bay in for the project... chances are VERY likely that- Transformers released on ALL (for EVERYONE) and Bay directs Transformers 2.

This format war is completely idiotic.
someone needs to come out with a quality player that supports blu-Ray AND HD-DVD...I think I heard one is coming out soon...that outa shut those fools up.
