Transformers Michael Bays Says No to Transformers 2?

Bay Retracts No Transformers 2 Statement

Source: Michael Bay
August 21, 2007

Early Tuesday morning,Michael Bay posted on his official website that Paramount/DreamWorks' decision to exclusively support HD DVD and not Blu-ray meant he would not be coming back for Transformers 2. Now, he's taking it all back. Here's his new post:

Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three Blu-Ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-Ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD-DVD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!

Was posted already, look a couple of posts up

Wait...if the HD exclusive thing exempts Spielberg films, wouldn't TF be released on BR anyways? Or does that just include films he directed?

Only films he's directed, sadly. :(

Oh well, the contract only lasts for 18 months anyway. Unless To$hiba is willing to pay even more money to renew the deal in 2009, Paramount will go neutral again, and hopefully we'll get the Uber-deluxe Special Tricked Out 08 Camaro with Chrome Rims Edition on Blu-Ray.

lol@Chrome Rims Edition.

Hmmm....Maybe by the time Transformers 2 rolls around, I'll have enough money to get an HD-DVD player.

i think bluray will win this war anyway mostly due to the ps3...i mean im not sure if ps3 will win the console war but it does come with a bluray player so yea that has to help. i mean i have a ps3 so im pretty much deicided that im stickin with bluray.

but i still will probably hold off on getting a big bluray collection until one format wins.

which im hoping is bluray ;)

Some of you have to get over your dislike of Michael Bay. Seriously. The poor guy's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

Say what you want about what he did with Transformers, but his initial refusal to direct the sequel without the original being available on BluRay actually demonstrated some integrity.

While I'm not keen on the whole exclusivity thing, as I believe it ultimately hurts the consumer, I can hardly blame him for that.

The guys I feel sorry for are those that have already joined the BluRay camp. Anyone who already has both a BluRay player and a screen capable of doing it justice obviously enjoys their movies, and all this is going to do is frustrate them.

As for me, I'm glad I'm still using just standard DVD.

nice post and welcome to THE HYPE watch your back around here though, its like a internet version of compton

Meh i hope HD DVD wins so Sony can take a hit to its enormous ego.

Agreed.

For all the whining about Microsoft Monpoly this and Microsoft Monpoly that.. everyone seems to give $ony a pass when it comes to this stuff.

If you get in their way, they sue you into oblivion. Look at the guys who made BLEEM!, which improved on Playstation titles, and would have meant HUGE software sales. Good old $ony sued 'em into nonexistence.

Lik Sang, and who knows how many others over the years.

If they could sue Paramount, they'd try it.

They're desperate, which is why you see this huge push for Blu Ray at the expense of their gaming division and pretty much every other department other than film (they can thank Spidey for that)

Bay got it right.. there's a lot of Kool Aid drinkers out there.

I am in the Blu-ray camp, and I am hardly phased by this. If anything, if both formats co-exist (and I truly think they will) most movies will end up on them. I don't see the point in fighting over formats.

What I can say is I keep hearing how he stuck up for the consumer.

Really? Because what if you are one of the vast majority of movie watchers using DVD and you truly enjoy Bay's "Transformers" and he refuses to make a second all because of a format that a majority of movie watchers don't use?

I'd say the average consumer would have just been robbed of a potentionally good sequal. So much for "sticking up for the consumer." (as I have heard many say) If he would have displayed his negativity towards the decision, good, that'd be supporting consumers. But, just plain knocking away a sequal to a movie many loved?

Even though the movie wasn't my cup of tea, I am glad the man says he may come back after all.

as if M$ has any less of an ego? Sony might be expensive but at least they put out quality products that are worth their price. M$ puts out overpriced products that crap out on their customers.

go ahead and root for lesser technology to prevail if that helps you sleep better at night, dude.

It's hard to say yet who will win this civil war, but the PS3 is doing **** compared to 360 and Wii right now!!!

Same here, except 2 weeks ago, the local Best Buy had ten of 'em for a few days. Surprised they lasted that long.

i say i hope bluray wins so im not stuck with a usless ps3, then have to go out and spend 200 on a hd-dvd add on for my 360 lol

You can get them for much cheaper than that if you look hard enough :D
