All i know is that most good HD movies are also regular DVD movies, and blue-ray cant do that....... :trans: , matrix and 300 come to mind...

huh? please explain. did you mean most good regular DVD movies are also released on HD-DVD...cuz the way you worded it, it sounds like you meant to say most good HD-DVD movies can also be played as regular DVDs.

I think I know what he's talking about. You see, more and more HD-DVD's are coming out that can also be played in a DVD player. They are essentially HD-DVD/DVD combo disks. For example, if you buy 300 in HD-DVD, it will also work in a DVD player.

see my last post.

T'was talking about the HD-DVD add-on if you were reading closely ;)
if you're gonna answer a question directed at someone else, it'd be nice if you leave out the jackassery...

Just ignore the Sonian
what's a sonian?

ohhhh...okay, gotcha. thanks for answering my question w/out resorting to smartass comments...

i have never understood, why do so many people on these boards hate Michael Bay?

I am in the Blu-ray camp, and I am hardly phased by this ... Even though the movie wasn't my cup of tea, I am glad the man says he may come back after all.

That pretty much explains why you weren't phased by it.

However, given that the movie's now eclipsed $660 million at the box office, I'm willing to bet there are quite a few fans of the movie out there who also happen to be BluRay owners. I know I wouldn't be happy.

I think it's fair to say though that Transformers would've lived on without him just fine. The sequel would've just had a different director, that's all.

Changing directors is risky business most of the time. If Bay was serious about not wanting to do TF2 if TF wasn't on Blu-Ray, then if I were Paramount I'd bend over backwards to give the man what he wants.

Anyway, at the end of the day, this is an extended annoyance at best. Bay is still probably going to do TF2, and Transformers will still be released on BR, it's just that we'll have to wait a year and a half longer for it, which sucks. But it's not worth jumping off a bridge over. It's a temporary inconvenience.

hopefully, if blu-ray sticks around or becomes the mainstream, Paramount will rethink their decision and release TF on blu-ray...

...with more features! :D

The exclusive deal has been confirmed to only be lasting 18 months anyway. In a year and a half, Paramount goes back to making Blu-Ray movies regardless.

Unless they get paid more money & they extend the contract or go exclusive, exclusive. They say its for only 18 months now but anything can happen. Money changes all. Sony does not & can not afford to do with Microsoft can do with money.

Microsoft wants both formats to loose so that they can control movie releases with download services.

And if the Blu-Ray market greatly expands, which it will, Paramount will stand to make a lot more money supporting Blu-Ray again than they would to renew their contract with Toshiba. Toshiba bought 18 months of life support, nothing more, nothing less. Transformers and Shrek 3 are not going to save HD-DVD from it's destiny at the clearance rack.

Wasn't anything of the sort.. besides, you brought the snark first for what it's worth.

And I wasn't answering anything that was asked. He mentioned that it'd cost $200 for the add-on, I merely informed him that cheaper options were availible and left it at that.

No hard sales, no pushing the format, no declarations of the format war being over, etc, etc.

*shrug*

ha i just found out harry potter is on bluray. so that along with the spiderman trilogy...sony just kicked my ass.

Here is a schedule of upcoming HD DVD releases, Transformers is nowhere to be found on this list. http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html Oh, and since HP is WB it is going to be released on both formats. The only reason people are saying that Blu Ray is better is for one the company that made it Sony.....Its all about a name. There is absolutely no visible difference between the two formats. I have seen SR on both Blu Ray and HD DVD on the baddest plasma tv around, and if you cant see a difference on that tv then you cant see it at all. Just in case you all wanted to know, I saw it on the Pioneer Elite PRO-FHD1. The only reason there is such a big stink about Blu Ray is because of the ability to have more special features....THATS IT!!!! No visible difference at all. I still think that both formats will co-exist. Look at how well the VHS and DVD formats have gotten along all these years. Yes, I know that VHS is obsolete now, but the point is, they still exist together. There wouldnt be any VHS/DVD combo players still being made if there wasnt a demand for it. I guarantee that in the future you will see more and more Blu Ray and HD DVD combo players.

Its true, in spite of being an American company, I must stand against Microsoft as hard as that may be to do. They provide the world with quality, superior American software but none the less, their outrageous plan to get rid of hardcopy media will not stand by me. And they will fail, because people dont want to bother with services, they want to put a movie in, turn the lights down and makeout with someones elses girl. Then they want to take that disc, which will be blu-ray, and bring it back home with them and invite that same girl's sister over. Then we want to take a shower, goto Microsoft headquarters and punch fancybill right in the mouth, right square in his ****-sucker.

Well,if this is true..then this might be a blow to HD..but no Transformers 2?That may be a bad thing...

So Bay writes that the HDDVD decision "sucks" and that he's dropping out of T2...and then the very next day, says that HDDVD "rocks" and he might be back for T2 after all....

Gosh, what a little baby. Did he just compuslivly post "No T2 for me!" after hearing the decision? Sounds like if he'd actually thought about it for a second he wouldn't have ended up looking stupid.

So the message here is that Bay is a little immature? I think I can process this without much shock.
