Ant-Man Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

And while Douglas has only done one sequel in his career spanning more than 40 years - Gordon Gekko in 2010's "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" - the actor teased about his involvement in future "Ant-Man" sequels.

"(Marvel) reciprocated well, there are sequels. Who knows?" the actor said.

Actually he did a sequel before that. Jewel of the Nile was a sequel to Romancing the Stone.

Man, if actors like Michael Douglas and Robert Redford were dying to be in Marvel films at one point, what actor in the world would pass up the opportunity to be in one? Marvel pretty much have their pick of any actor in the universe by now, as long as there are no scheduling conflicts.

It seems to be a "perfect storm" from a casting director's standpoint. On the one hand, you've got the up-and-comers who are beating down the door to get a shot at being Marvel's Next Big Thing; and on the other, you've got screen icons who are just looking for something fun and current to do that'll impress their kids/grandkids.

No lies but I guarantee you I won't be kind. The FREE PR I've done for Marvel over the years is actually quite epic. They've turned a die hard Marvel Zombie in to an angry fan with one stroke.

I'm right there with you man! All the Marvel movies (except IM3) have gotten 5+ viewings minimum. I have gotten at least 25 friends to see all the Marvel movies because I'm pretty good at selling the stories and characters to them Plus, Marvel's characters (as they are in the books with next to no deviations from the source material) are GOLDEN and easily sell themselves. I buy quite nearly EVERY monthly title they publish. I pay for EVERY SINGLE movie showing and I take my family and 2 friends (which are 9 people total) every time and this is what I get AGAIN?! IM3 and now this *****??? I gave IM3 the midnight showing loyalty I do to all Marvel Studios movies. Learned my lesson. This one won't see a penny from me. :cmad:

This is how I feel, too. On the one hand, I am extremely disappointed that Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne have been erased from The Avengers in the MCU. Jan is one of my three favorite superheroines so I'm truly upset that it looks as if she won't exist in the film universe. I've also been a fan of Hank's since childhood and none of the crap that writers have piled on him over the years has tarnished that one bit. Not getting to see them in their Silver Age glory on the silver screen is a real blow.

Hell, I like the Scott Lang Ant-Man and how he got the costume. But like mentioned, I'm beyond disappointed that Hank Pym has indeed been erased from The Avengers in the current MCU. Pym not being a part of any future films ticks me off as a fan. There are so many great opportunities and depth to that character they no longer have access to even if they switch it all to Lang. I really wanted to see Yellowjacket on the silver screen.

Then allow me...

This has to be the worst Marvel news since they became a solo studio. F***** awful doing that to a founding Avenger. I hope this crap is laughed out of the cinema to teach Marvel a valuable lesson.

:bow::bow::bow:

If you're not a book purist or as you said "I didn't care what they did", then there should be no reason to be angry over this. I understand the anger from fans who have been fans of Ant-Man for years but I don't see a reason why you personally should be angry.

Oh I dunno, maybe it's because Marvel's a fan of this show:

IM3 was awesome.
Ant-Man is going to be fan****ingtastic with Michael Douglas *and* Paul Rudd in those roles.

BTW, I'll give you three guesses about who my favorite Avenger is. (hint: check the avatar)
And BTW BTW, I've been a Marvelphile since 1975. You?

Where do you get the idea that Pym won't be part of any future films....? Douglas himself told Reuters just a few hours ago that Marvel's got him on the hook for sequels.

Why the hell does it matter how old Hank Pym is? His power is growing and shrinking and talking to ants.....doesn't require a young athletic body to use those powers.

Good luck to them getting any acting vet who still has clout. Marvel movies are the in-thing right now, so they will rightly attract newcomers and the famous actors who want a good paycheck and a great time.

They're not known for great writing though, so I'd highly doubt you'll ever see the likes of a Dicaprio or Day-Lewis featuring in these films.

I was just talking about this with my sister, if Daniel Day Lewis joins a Marvel project, thats how you know they're on top. Now just watch, Day Lewis will be cast as Dr Strange, you wait.

Correct!

Been bouncing around the Net and there has been a good amount of hate that I fully understand and comments like these....

"He's going to use Pym particles to shrink his bowel movements and negate his need to wear diapers."

"This is the biggest disappointment I can imagine. I'm absolutely heartbroken. My heart actually hearts. All this time I've been waiting for my favorite hero on the big screen and this is what I get... Disgusted and disappointed."

Those quotes pretty much sum it up for me as well.

I'm as far away from a book purist as it gets. I loved The Manadrin twist in IM3. I have supported Marvel heavily from day one. (I just paid to see Thor: The Dark World AGAIN this very day) I didn't care what they did but taking Hank Pym out of future films and future character evolutions angers my blood. There's no way this thing gets my money but will get my bad word of mouth.

The both of you really need to stop with this stuff. Seriously. Hopefully a mod will put you both in your place.

I just find it funny how nobody on the internet gave a s**t about Ant-Man for, like, oh 40 years or so

and then as soon as this news comes in it's all "How dare they bastardize such a beloved character!! Marvel's done!!! Wright's a hack!!!"

lol, I love the internet

Yeah, it's totally impossible to believe that any comic book fans loved Ant-Man when they were kids.

Hey, people were saying the exact sort of comments when BatFleck happened, except that this piece of left-of-field casting news took the cake and ate it too.

There's a difference between discussing opinions and debating in a civil way, and trolling and flipping out. You act ridiculous too over in the All Hail The King thread. Even C. Lee called you out about it and even warned you.

I would not write Janet off for the future. Joss has went on record that he loves Janet/Wasp and she was almost in the first Avengers (there were storyboards that had her in them circulating around). I always got the impression Joss dropped Wasp as Edgar really wanted his movie to be the first one to introduce the concept of shrinking characters and Joss was giving the man a professional curtesy.

Just the headline of Michael Douglas and Marvel doing a movie together boosts the buzz and boxoffice potential of this movie by a lot.

This is my problem with a lot of you crying over Pym. You have almost no knowledge of the character or experience with the character outside of that show. So are you really a fan of the character or just a fan of the way the show did the character? Because there's a lot more to Pym in the comics that that show does not get into, and a weary old man really fit Pym perfectly.

I have no idea what you saw and I was discussing opinions and understanding where Marvel was coming from and was answering Figs' question on why Marvel feels that way, not at all trolling or flipping out here?

Marvel who by the looks of things, was a fan of Avengers: EMH, and Pym was his/her favorite character from the show and is sad that we're not going to see Pym's character in all his glory not be the Ant-Man we see in the Avengers' movies. That's perfectly understandable and Marvel has every right to feel that way.

So people want EMH Pym do they. You mean the absent-minded scientist who's also a pacifist and only resorts to force when there's NO OTHER option, or when Janet's in danger. You mean the guy who went crazy and became Yellowjacket in season 2, that guy. Here's the thing, you can still do that character with Douglas. Douglas can do all of these things that I mentioned, play all of those different traits.

And these guys think old people smell bad. :o

These guys have probably never read an Ant-Man comic, or a comic with Ant-Man in it, in their lives and are crying about how Marvel changed a character they only know from about 30 episodes in a TV show that didn't even touch all bases on the character. Some people just want something to throw tantrums over, doesn't matter how insignificant it actually is to them.

Hate to say this but:

NEWSFLASH!

Pym wasn't EVER portrayed as a fragile old many in any of the stories he's famous for. None of that alternate future or what if? crap applies here.
