Ant-Man Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

Why is it hard to believe that Hank Pym was as much a child prodigy as Tony Stark?

he wasnt a child prodigy when he became antman, if you want to stick to the real time timeline then stick to iot. you can't make up your own rules or it's flawed

:highfive:

Good question. Didn't Tony like create dummy when he was 17 if I recall correctly?

no he didn't. he did'nt create anything like that until he needed to which was his origin.

your thinking of ultimate iron man

18 counts (did they specify his age in his debut issue?). That would make him 71 by 2015. I would say that lines up with Michael Douglas perfectly.

no it's not hard to beleive, but ye want to stick to real time, you can't pick and choose how it works. was hank a child prodigy in 1962 when he became antman?? no. can't have your cake and eat it too

but he was'nt ant man when he was a child, so its irrelevant

The multiquote button is there for a reason.

Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym, is an American biochemist with extensive knowledge in various scientific fields, married Maria Trovaya, a brave and beautiful young woman who had been a political dissident in her native Hungary, from which she had fled. Naively believing that his American citizenship would protect her, Henry and Maria Pym traveled to Hungary shortly after their marriage. The Pyms were confronted by agents of the secret police there. Henry Pym was knocked unconscious and Maria was murdered. Pym was greatly distraught by his wife's death, and decided to do whatever he could in the future to battle injustice and inhumanity[1].

Back in the United States, Pym discovered a rare group of subatomic particles, which have become known as the "Pym Particles." Pym was able, through the application of magnetic fields, to entrap the particles within two separate serums. One serum would reduce the size of persons and objects,

wow he really got a lot in before he was 18

What on earth are you talking about....?
*Of course* it's relevant. If he was a child prodigy, it means that he probably graduated university at a much younger age than everyone else, and means that he was already a certified supergenius even as a child/teenager. So he could very easily be a very young man --- early 20s, even late teens --- in the 1960s and still become a bonafide secret agent and superhero. In fact, it's totally implicit.

I'm clearly new to the forum, i can't get the multi quote to work for me.

I'm so sorry dude, did i inconvenience you??? sorry you had to make a longer scroll down.

I can actually picture all of that being said in a montage about his life similar to Tony Stark's at the beginning of Iron Man.

I think its pretty obvious this is whats going to happen:
They are going to have TWO HENRY PYM ANT-MANS. One in the past (played by an unknown actor) and one in the present day(Michael Douglas) who passes the mantle to scott lang. I believe there will also be TWO WASPS. Obviously one played by a younger actress and one closer to michael douglas' age.

that's logical. but my prediction is that there will be two henry pym's; Douglas and a younger actor for flashbacks. and there will be one Wasp/Janet Van Dyne. she will be younger or of similar age to Rudd. my reasoning is that Whedon would want a younger Wasp. that's who he was after, in the first place.

my point being none of this could have happened before the age of 18.

it's flawed, just using the same name don't make it the same character, i'm done with this now I think, unless you can actually make a point of how they haven't taken away from the character

Oh that's easy. They literally changed nothing about him except his age. People who argue that a Norwegian god shouldn't be black actually have MORE of a case than people arguing against this. And I'm a guy who's fine with a black Heimdall (considering nobody from Scandinavia would have seen him).

Will be funny to see the reaction if Marvel turned Pym into an old man in the comics now.

War, blood and death are not funny things

they could get away with it. there are like a zillion ways to deage him or make it a non-issue anyways. for starters, he could just download his brain patterns into a young body. then he'd fit in with that A.I. team of his. or he use time travel. on the other hand, all of the primary Avengers have benefited from age rejuvenation; if you count Avengers Reborn.

Douglas as Pym is utterly random and exciting really. Looking forward to what he does with the role. So unexpected...Can't believe I'm actually this thrilled for an Antman movie.

Naturally people have an issue with the whole age thing and Tom Brevoort put this up when answering a fan about whether or not it would translate to the comics:
There’s a line in one of the early Ant-Man stories about Hank being twice Jan’s age. So if she was 18 when they met and she became the Wasp, that would make Hank 36. And since then, around 13 years have passed. So yes, Hank is relatively older than many of the other characters from that era, he’s more a contemporary of Reed Richards and Ben Grimm.

I actually want exactly that. A Fantastic Four movie set in the 60s would be awesome as well.

Me too I hope they end up that way what with the First Class characters being in the past, though it'll probably be eighties now unless Fox introduces them first in the 60s then in the eighties in sequels

I was gonna say.
Wright said the opening story is in the 60s; he didn't specify 1962. Although, truth be told, it's a good guess, with Astonishing Tales and the Bay of Pigs and such. Then again, Marvel risks the fancry of "ripoff of XMFC" if they do the Cuban Missile Crisis again. Besides, I'm sure that if they're fictionalizing Castro into "Castillo," they'll fictionalize Cuba into some made up banana republic (*koff* Santa Prisca *koff*).

Never considered that, they are kinda ripping off Fox abit.

I always find it odd when people get very uppity about a movies changes from a the comic and really are against it but then go to see it anyway.

Next to the quote button there is a notepad icon with a "+ on it. Click that and it'll turn red then do it for another post and click Quote, both will appear as quotes in your new message

As always with my Marvel movies, I'll avoid as many spoilers possible and wait until AFTER I see the film to wager a judgement on everything involved.

So far, so good on my end.

I'll never understand how people can deem a project doomed or bad before they've actually seen ANYTHING from the project itself. Those people then either hype it up as terrible and their viewing is ruined or envisioned something else in their own minds going in and the experience is ruined because its not what they pictured.

I try to go in with as little actual information as possible as well as not being familiar with the source material and allow myself no expectation or pre conceived vision of what I think I will see or deep down want to see. I let the project on the screen play out and then cast my basically unbiased judgement on it. I treat these CBM's just as any other film, I first and foremost want to see a good movie, if it happens to be a good adaptation of the source then even better! But as long as its a good film and also works well within the MCU and offers something for the MCU to grow then I'm all good. So far I've been happy with everything in the MCU and especially the start of Phase 2, I'm really excited for what lies beyond.

So are you saying Hank was married and widowed before the age of 18? that's pushing it a bit isn't it.
