Michael Keaton: Overrated?

If anything, Keaton's vastly underrated due to his physical appearance. His actual performance and acting ability are suburb.

I think he did well with the script that was given to him and I think he is probably a little more charismatic than Christian Bale, but at the same time I think his Batman got only one part of the character right, the intimidation factor and the criminal asskicking.

(Okay the detective work too)

Everything else about Keaton's Batman just felt like it had nothing to do with the comics Batman I know and love. His Bruce Wayne was already mentioned, he had a virtually nonexistant relationship with Gordon, he kills people, and his overall personality just doesn't reflect the Batman that I've read from O'Neil, Miller, Loeb, Morrison, Wagner, Dini and all the others Batman writers who have done great stories in Batman's main continuity.

I feel Bale's Batman actually gets that down right, as Mr. Earle once said, "Batman Begins is the closest thing I've seen to a live action Batman TAS"

However, if I were to blame anyone with the problems I just listed, I wouldn't blame Keaton, I'd blame Burton. As I stated, Keaton did great with what he had and if Batman Begins was written when Keaton was a young man I'd have no doubt he could play that kind of Batman just as well... he'd just need to wear some extended heel shoes and do some pushups. :woot:

I hate how psychotic he is (probably more than the villains he fights) but something about in him the costume just feels right. The eyes, the face, him staring off into the distance, waiting for the Bat-signal to go off.

you kidding? the suit was like a 2xl where he is a M at most lol, it looked awkward

Aren't Kilmer and Bale around the same height?

They're both 6'.

Here's the heights of the various Batman actors:

Adam West: 6'2''
Michael Keaton: 5'9''
Val Kilmer: 6'
George Clooney: 5'11
Christian Bale: 6'

Christian Bale: 6'
So they're the same height? For some reason Kilmer looked tall, but Bale not so much. In the Dent fundraiser it looked like everyone was taller than him.

Maybe for Kilmer they used camera tricks. They should do the same for Bale and we also have to remember that his Alfred is ****ing tall.

To be honest it bugs me that Alfred is just as big as Batman, but the batsuit bugs me even more. :hehe:

Why does it bug you. Alfred was in the military as a younger man. It only makes sense that he'd be 6' or taller... I know people shrink when they get older, but they don't just drop 12 inches because they're not in the army anymlore...

the suit was custom made to fit his bodytype. Any awkwardness arose from the technology of the suit being new...not from the actor's physique.

Well, the BB suit made him look like the BTAS Batman while the second one was just horrible...I hope that the next one will provide a look closer to the comics but I think that for that to happen we'll have to wait until the next series starts:csad:

I've never believed that Bale is 6', to be honest. When Batman BEgins was made everyone claimed he was 6'2'' "exactlly like the comic BatamN!!!111". I think he is under 6 feet. The fact that he is surrounded by tall people in his Batan movies doesn't help either. ;) But note, Nicole Kidman is like 5'10'' barefoot and that didn't hurt Kilmer at all.

I have to say that Adam West could've been an even greater Batman:he had the height, voice, face and with the right workout he would've had a perfect resemblance to the Batman from the comics...

But note, Nicole Kidman is like 5'10'' barefoot and that didn't hurt Kilmer at all.
So Schumacher picked a more beautiful, more skilled and appropriately shorter actress than Nolan? He did something better than Nolan?
Hahahaha, i wanna see what the blind Nolan fanboys have to say about that.

Are Maggie (whatever her surname is spelled) and Katie Holmes taller than Nicole?

Here's a picture of Bale compared with other cast members:

Note that Caine and Freeman are both 6'2''.

OMG! Lucius is taller than Bruce! Bale sucks! :cmad: Why doesn't he make himself taller?! Why did Nolan cast him? :down

[/stupidity]

I was just saying that it would be better if he was a bit taller. Bale is still my favourite Batman.
Blitzkrieg you re such a troll.

Any slight critique against the Nolan movies gets you lambasted all over these boards no matter how much you may have enjoyed the movies, I thought it was over but nah this will go on for years I guess. This is why I just stick to the bat comic book board around here for the most part. Not only because the comics books were always my prefered medium for Batman but the movie fans mostly stay away from there :woot:

Thanks for the support!

I don't understand why. It's not like he's 4". You're looking too much in to it. So Bale's off by a few inches, who cares? Is he somehow less intimidating? If there's some height discrepancy you should whine about, it should be Hugh Jackman as Wolverine; as he's a full foot taller than his comic book counterpart.

QFT. there are so many points where it becomes apparent that lots of bat movie fans have never read a comic book, which I guess is fine (not really but I don't want to start anything :woot:) to each their own but yeah the comic forums are much less frustrating.
