Microsoft Windows Virus - April 1st attack

tell me if you guys find anything like the virus....

Will check out my comp tomorrow morning. I do think the announcement should have a more attracting place, however. Maybe it's just me, but my eyes automatically ignore the top, because some stickies are there for forever and it seems like old news. I barely missed this one.

But it's time like these I love being on a Mac. I don't ever get worries about this type of stuff. :hehe:

Ugh, my mom won't let me do this ()...screw it, I'm doing it anyway.

edit: clean, thanks for the head up guys.

thanks Malice, i was looking for a way to get rid of the worm when it arrives

Greetings all.

I want ALL users of the Windows Operating System to do something before April 1st. On April, a virus (worm to be named correctly) will actually get out to the internet and then download a payload...this is usually not good.

I want you all to be secure.

I want EVERYONE who is not sure if they are safe, to go HERE

use the like in the section that looks like this:
F-Downadup
Specific tool with heuristics for Downadup worm variants:

• ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/beta/f-downadup.zip

Unzip it to your desktop and then run it.
This is a program to simply scan ONLY for the Conficker worm.

I want all my brothers and sisters to be safe here.

Please do this, because the unknown nature of the payload could really be nasty if too many people are still infected.

Malice
Well I think I did it right. It scanned this thing and said I was OK.

What will this worm do if you do get it?

Thanks Malice. I seem to be clean.

My system is clean, I'm letting some friends know about this as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Here's a question...how exactly will you get affected? Is there specific sites it is targeting? Everyone right now is claiming that they are clean, but April 1st is still a week away. It may actually be possible to get infected within the week. So what do you do? Not use the computer for the entire week? I mean...you need to know what sites or e-mails to avoid! Also, if we're still like a week away wouldn't anti-virus programs and windows try to hurry and figure out a way to remove the thing in time?

No one has answered my question yet. :csad: How do you even avoid it? What sites is it targeting? What type of e-mails are they sending?

Well, I have no idea. This was the first time I've heard of it.

to be honest this sounds like a joke to me.
explain to me why does it matter if i am clean now? i could get it in on week right? plus who announces a virus?

Malice is tricking you into downloading some crap into your computer as an April Fool's Prank. The man is a genius.

so this all is not true? i mean joking about viruses is not funny IMO.

If it is a joke, I doubt Malice is behind it, the first post links to the NY Times.

I look at it this way...we're still a week away. Windows will figure out a way to fix it.

Virus programmers are like stereotypical cartoon villains. They want you to know it's coming so you can be afraid and feel helpless.

You're adorable lol

what are you clicking on?
the ZIP file have an executable that runs that has no need to type anything at all......

When I open the application, it scans through, like, 8 lines of C/MY DOCUMENTS/SETTINGS folders, saying they're all clean. Then it says "Start System Scan". And then just flashes at that indefinitely, not doing anything else. Do I need to enter a command or do something here?

If someone got infected, its from one if many possibly ways.
Their computer was connected to the internet with no firewall to block incoming requests...
A USB Thumbdrive was infected, then it was put in your PC, transferred to there.

Most can get rid of it. But its good with something like this, to run an independent scanner...in other words....a second opinion.

If you are not infected now, and you have a valid av scanner on your pc....you should be ok now...this helped you validate that.

Nope...no need to do anything...just watch and let it go

It says that I'm clean. Will the virus still get though?

OK...I will explain.
The Worm...or Virus...is not a hoax...I have seen and dealt with it personally.

The Payload which is supposed to come out on April 1st, may be minimal...but may not...this whole ordeal is a precaution.
