Midnight Meat Train Official Synopsis
Source: ShockTillYouDrop.com
January 25, 2008

Sooo, there's supposedly a "new" trailer out there for Ryuhei Kitamura's Midnight Meat Train - based on the Clive Barker short story - the thing is, it's not so new. What we do have is the official synopsis which you can read via this link.

Midnight Meat Train opens on May 16th, courtesy of Lionsgate, and stars Bradley Cooper, Brooke Shields, Vinnie Jones, Leslie Bibb and Roger Bart.

Fun factoid: Look closely in the trailer and you'll find Crank co-writer/director Brian Taylor in a pool of blood.

Plot Summary: Next stop...death. When Leon Kaufman's (Bradley Cooper) latest body of work – a collection of provocative, nighttime studies of the city and its inhabitants - earns the struggling photographer interest from prominent art gallerist Susan Hoff (Brooke Shields), she propels him to get grittier and show the darker side of humanity for his upcoming debut at her downtown art space. Believing he's finally on track for success, Leon's obsessive pursuit of dark subject matter leads him into the path of a serial killer, Mahogany (Vinnie Jones), the subway murderer who stalks late-night commuters - ultimately butchering them in the most gruesome ways imaginable. With his concerned girlfriend Maya (Leslie Bibb) fearing for his life, Leon's relentless fascination with Mahogany lures him further and further into the bowels of the subways and ultimately into an abyss of pure evil – inadvertently pulling Maya right along with him.

March 23: THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN will miss stop

FANGORIA has learned from various sources that Lionsgate’s THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, based on the BOOKS OF BLOOD story by Clive Barker and directed by VERSUS' Ryuhei Kitamura (pictured), will not arrive on May 16 as expected. A contact tells Fango that MEAT TRAIN’s release is “in flux” and it has vacated its spring slot. This particularly bums Fango, as the film graces the cover of our May issue (check it out here). Stay tuned for more details and check out Fango #273 for exclusive set coverage of the film. —Tony Timpone

Bummer, big fat bummer. :cmad:

Official: Midnight Meat Train Knocked Out of May
Source:Lionsgate
March 25, 2008

Following up on yesterday's report, we've been informed by Lionsgate that the studio has officially pushed Midnight Meat Train.

Sad news for Clive Barker fans, relief for director Ryuhei Kitamura. An insider told us on the heels of posting our previously MMT report that Kitamura was never really thrilled about opening against blockbusters like The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Who can blame him?

So, where does that leave the film's release? Lionsgate has offered no replacement release date at the time of this writing.

This would've been a great birthday present to me. Now it's ruined, all ruined! :csad:

That's very good. I don't expect it to make a lot of money since it is a horror film but it will definetly have a better chance being moved away from all the summer blockbusters this year.

Midnight Meat Train Abbreviated Again?
Source:'Dr. Leverthal'
April 8, 2008

Lionsgate held a test screening deep in the heart of the San Fernando Valley last night. On the slab? Midnight Meat Train, the Clive Barker adaptation culled from the pages of the Books of Blood collection.

One attendee, going by the name 'Dr. Leverthal,' wrote in not only proclaiming how happy he was with how Ryuhei Kitamura's film, but he also to tell us the title on the film print read...

...Midnight Train.

This is the second time the title has taken a hit. Early in pre-production, Lakeshore and Lionsgate mulled over losing the "meat" and adopting the Midnight Train moniker. Barker put in a phone call and put a stop to that.

'Leverthal' tells us the print he saw appeared finished. Lionsgate has already whipped up a print campaign (poster ) carrying the full title. So, when Midnight hits the screen (it was recently pulled from its May release slot)...will it be sans "meat"?

These people are really getting on my nerves.

The whole thing sounds fishy. IF they had made the choice to change the title and made the prescreen release with that title before Barker complained they may not have wanted wasted money to fix a prescreener

I'm going to be pissed if they change the name because of all the morons in our society who instantly think of homosexual undertones.

Just like all the people who saw the trailer in the theatre said, they heard people laughing all around when the title was said/shown at the end.

The title makes perfect sense when you read the damn story so they shouldn't change it due to the majority of people being too immature.

Wow, homosexual undertones never even crossed mymind. I guess I foundthe guy with the BUTCHER knife wasa dead give away

Haha, when I first heard the title, I knew it was a dark horror film, but at the same time, I DID also think "This sounds gay."

It's not that a lot of people can't put 2 and 2 together in regards to the guy with the butchers knife it's just their immaturity when they hear a name/title with the words meat and train in it.
