Midnight Meat Train

I've never ever seen a movie shuffled and snubbed as much as this. It's been moved all over the place and for what 100 screens?

I wonder if Clive pissed someone off. I know he threw a fit, I think it was this movie that someone pissed him off.

First thought tha ran through my head when I saw the title

"Where does a train of meat go at midnight :hehe:"

http://shocktillyoudrop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6762&postcount=259

the last movie I watched was Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train. It was awesome! But you may never get to watch it on the big screen if you do not TAKE ACTION NOW!

OPEN LETTER TO ALL HORROR FANS:

WE NEED TO START A VIRAL CAMPAIGN TO GET THIS MOVIE A WIDER RELEASE!!!

A very reliable SOURCE from within Lionsgate has told me that the decision to dump Midnight Meat Train in as few as 100 screens and then rush the film to DVD is based purely on INTERNAL POLITICS.

Something along the lines of: the new head honcho does not like the old head honcho so he is deliberately dumping all of his films out of spite and malice.

But there is HOPE. The only thing that overrides backstabbing politics in Hollywood is PURE GREED. It is clearly not healthy for investor relations to dump a movie that has a vocal and dedicated audience. Midnight Meat Train represents the kind of horror film that audiences have been dying for!!!

There is growing internal pressure within the company for a wider release of this film and PUBLIC FAN PRESSURE may help to push this decision over the edge.

If you wish to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN in all its big screen glory at a THEATER near you, please do the following:

Cut and paste the message at the bottom of this post and e-mail it to:

1) investor relations at Lionsgate: [email protected]

2) Lionsgate: [email protected]

3) call Lionsgate at (310) 449-9200 and express your desire to see MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN get the release it deserves.

BE POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL! We do not want to piss them off, just want them to know how many fans out there would like to shell out their hard earned cash to see the most groundbreaking horror film of the past ten years in a real movie theater!

4) SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!

WE HAVE WAITED TOO LONG FOR THIS MOVIE TO LET IT GO STRAIGHT TO DVD!!!

Post this message everywhere, send it to your horror friends and spread the word! We need to act FAST to have an effect!!!

And LONG LIVE THE MEAT!!

HERE’S A SAMPLE MESSAGE FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE (or feel free to compose your own):

Dear Lionsgate,

As a long time Clive Barker fan, I am writing you to express my strong desire to see “The Midnight Meat Train” on the big screen.

Rumors are currently circulating that the film will only be released on a limited basis and I am very concerned that I will miss my opportunity to see the most highly anticipated Clive Barker film in over a decade in all of its big screen glory!

There are millions of horror fans like myself who have been disappointed by the recent trend towards watered down PG-13 horror movies. Clive’s work represents a return to serious, thought provoking horror movies and with Ryuhei Kitamura at the helm, I am even more excited to experience this collaboration as it was intended: in a packed theater with hundreds of other horror fans like myself!

I urge you to please give this film the release it deserves!

Many thanks,

I guess it's better than doing nothing. :/

...It has become apparent that the theatrical distribution of The Midnight Meat Train has been curtailed, with reports that the movie may be seen on only 100 screens. Word has come to us that the substantial excitement surrounding the movie has now developed into an active campaign by movie-lovers for its full theatrical release.

Clive is throwing his support behind the growing movement. He is asking all who would like to see the movie get the wide distribution that many people believe it deserves to add their voice...

"I am very excited about this possibility and I would passionately encourage everybody who cares about my work to use this chance to change the minds of the folks at Lionsgate.

"This is exciting! I really think, this late in the day, that grassroots support for our movie could significantly improve our chances of reaching a much bigger audience theatrically. The picture is worth the effort, I believe."

It's truly sad that what looks to be a quality horror film based on a damn good short story gets the shaft while loads of crap get put in the theatre as fairly large releases.

^Ha, cute. :p

Furious Horror Film Fans Target Lionsgate

I give TV and movie fans a lot of credit: when they get mad, they scare the crap out of the moguls. That's happening at Lionsgate where the studio's phones and email accounts are jammed with angry fans for the past week. They're making a stink because new Lionsgate topper Joe Drake appears to be dumping all of ex-prez Peter Block's movies. That includes Midnight Meat Train, the adaptation of the Barker short story that's a fan fave. Supposedly the trailer tested higher than any film in Lionsgate history. But when Drake took over, he promptly bumped Midnight Meat Train from its May 16th release date. The result was that Rogue Pictures' The Strangers (which was skedded two weekends later) had zero competition in the hard-R category. And guess who was exec producer of The Strangers? Joe Drake.

Then, the websites, Shock Til You Drop and Fangoria found out Lionsgate is planning only a 100 theater run on August 1st to merely fulfill the contractual obligation with Lakeshore Entertainment. The plan is to release the DVD immediately after. So fans are asking if Drake is such a dummy that he'd intentionally sink what to them is a sure-thing hit. And they want to know if the studio that was built on horror gross (both the gory and cash kinds) is going to bite the hand that's fed it so well in favor of four Tyler Perry movies a year.

The result is a lot of anti-Lionsgate blogging in Horrorville by fans, by self-appointed horror flick experts, and also by Barker himself. "I would passionately encourage everybody who cares about my work to use this chance to change the minds of the folks at Lionsgate," Barker, whose Midnight Picture Show company co-produced the film, recently stated on the Clive Barker's Revelations website. "I really think, this late in the day, that grassroots support for our movie could significantly improve our chances of reaching a much bigger audience theatrically." Lakeshore, too, is pushing hard. Midnight Meat Train is described as a cold, unyielding but also stylish slasher film that relishes exploitive gross-out gags. Not my kind of pic, to be sure. Especially when director Ryuhei Kitamura making his U.S. debut promised as much gore, if not more, as Saw and Hostel. So I'd be a hypocrite not to applaud Lionsgate for wanting to move away from extreme hard-R. On the other hand, Lionsgate is far behind in studio market share right now. In the meantime, given the active imaginations of Clive Barker fans, I have this image in my head of Jon Feltheimer under the desk crouching in terror every time the phone rings...

1.

If Joe Drake isn’t releasing it, it’s because he doesn’t think it’s going to serve his company financially. He’s a pro and he’s done a lot of Horror movies. Probably as crappy as its title is absurd.

This is a really boneheaded move from the studio that released BRATZ on over 1500 screens and still thinks Dane Cook is the Next Big Thing.

MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN didn’t cost much ($15m) to make, the script is unsettling, it’s directed by a stylish Japanese filmmaker (he made the acclaimed cult hit “Versus”) and has Clive Barker’s personal seal of approval, something that he hasn’t given in a long time. The buzz is strong in the horror community and for good reason– Barker’s source material is sharp, scary and genuinely unsettling.

I know that companies routinely throw out the baby with the bathwater when it comes to new regimes, but in a summer when the only true “horror” movies are the dire THE HAPPENING and MIRRORS (the action-oriented HELLBOY II and THE MUMMY III don’t count), this movie — something fright fans have been looking forward to for months — is the real deal. Horror fans are constantly crapped on by narrow-minded producers and idiot executives who think remakes and sequels are all that the genre has to offer. It would be wise if Drake, whose very studio still exists because of its genre offerings and who’s foisting SAW V on us this fall, to treat the fans with a lot more dignity and respect and give this a decent release.

If its going straight to DVD that probably says something about the quality of the film. Not to mention the trailers were horrid...not in a good way.

The screening will be held during Comic-Con on Friday, July 25th at the Gaslamp Stadium (701 Fifth Avenue). Best of all, the event is F-R-E-E.

Get your tickets now!

Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and starring Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones, Brooke Shields and Leslie Bibb, Meat Train follows one photographer's descent into hell when he decides to follow a man he suspects is a serial killer using the subway system as his abattoir.

Two-Minute Ride on the Midnight Meat Train

Crank co-writer/director Brian Taylor bites the big one in the first clip to surface on the web from Midnight Meat Train (review). The scene below is the opening of the film and it found its way online as part of some promotion campaign for the Korean release. It's more than what we're getting here in the States. Ryuhei Kitamura's film opens on August 1st - two weeks away from the time of this writing - and we're unsure just how wide its release will be. Limited, that much is certain.

or this

I like the short story but I hope they keep the ending where

Kaufman fights Mahogany and kills him in self-defense, but then the train doors open and strange malformed creatures board the train. The creatures eat the dead passengers, then force Kaufman to serve them as their new butcher, cutting out his tongue to ensure his silence. They tell Kaufman that Mahogany was getting old and could not do the job any longer, and that Kaufman now has a new career. It is also revealed that the creatures have also been the secret rulers of New York City for centuries. The police have always covered up for the creatures. Kaufman finds he now has lifetime employment.

No Tickets Available For Lionsgate's Empty 'Train' Ride...

I've been sitting in the back seat watching the stories unfold regarding Lionsgate vs. Clive Barker about his film The Midnight Meat Train. We reported awhile back that the film was slated to open in limited theaters on August 1st, which is all fine and dandy, until I found out that the film is opening in dollar theaters... yeah, $1 theaters. "They're dumping it at mostly dollar theaters (the second run theaters, so it'll make even LESS money)," writes B-D reader Brian W. (one of a handful who wrote in). "It's playing at a Dollar Theater in Norwalk and Oklahoma and Idaho. Check MovieTickets.com if you don't believe me. " The question is, why does Lionsgate want the movie to make less money than it would normally in limited theaters? I'm going to investigate this further as something seems off. B-D readers are encouraged to report their findings below, good or bad. Note: Theater listings now inside...

Wow that really sucks how badly lionsgate is treating this film. Its like they are ashamed of it or something.

I think the movie looks pretty lame and the title makes me think porn film instead of horror movie.

I guess I'm out of luck so far. I'm still searching the Tampa Bay area. You would not believe the response from friends I've asked about a dollar theatre. They are like "they still exist". :hehe:

Even after movies like Blair Witch Project and the Saw franchise started them off. Now they are giving us, horror fans, the finger.

Well thats the only thing Liosgate cares about is saw and the PG-13 horror movies other companys are putting out.

Saw has part 5 in 2008 and 6 in 2009. I can't believe that movie is still going. Lionsgate is also planning on releasing The Descent 2. I'm still waiting for an amazing "R" rated horror to come out. But I think with the change in the time, movie goers are not as scared of movies as they were in the past. With that in mind, that doesn't mean studios can't at least try. Lionsgate put out Saw 1 and Hostel 1, which I loved, but I didn't like the sequels. I say give us something fresh like MMT.

Iliked the 4 saws and 2 hostels.

I thought the descent was okay at best. not amazing like all said it was.

I've done writting a horror script. its r rated and the few have read it said it was good. a 8/10 and 9/10.

But yeah MNM and Repo need a full release.

What's your script about? One of my friends was working on horror films as well and what he did was great but it's hard to get a flick out there. You got a plan?

What's MNM? Did you mean Midnight Meat Train?
