We already got awesome Storm scenes on trailers so we should be happy about the movie.

Yep, and those scenes already top some of the best material Halle ever got to work with. I'm still very excited for Alex, especially for the accent.

I'm not surprised at all. I just don't find this new actress exciting as Storm, she lacks that *snap* so I was already expecting not to see greatness from her even before these reviews came out.

Oh and Halle had that *snap* simply because she was in the OT. Some of you guys responses are off the wall. How you can even stand behind that performance and compare it with this one when over 3 movies she never got it right yet you compare her introduction movie to someone's whose done it multiple times I can't deal. Nothing negative has came out about Shipps performance so keep grasping at straws and holding your breath in the corner wanting the OT to come back in which it will not. It's really sad that some can't get over it and want to come for Shipp because she isn't Halle it's her first film and she already blew Halle's portrayal out of the water. Seethe on that. Shipp is doing a good job already

If I remember it right, I read a review stating Storm never uttered a word until the last part of the movie.

Really? Wow, what a mess. i didnt have hopes for the character once Shipp was cast and we then found out she would be a Horseman so this isnt too surprising

Someone also said that she was underused in the final battle.

You're using things that are beyond the actresses control as a reason why she's not good for the part. There hasn't been anything I've read that says she's bad as Storm, just that she's not given much of anything to work with. That's a script issue, not an actor issue.

These reviews...

"Magneto’s new wife and daughter get more dialogue than Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Psylocke (Olivia Munn) combined."

"Black Panther's bodyguard is more memorable than Storm is in X-men Apocalypse"
(These are reviews not much of a spoiler, but I blocked them anyway)

That is unacceptable. This character will never flourish under Singer.

These gifs just gave me everlasting life, especially the LHHATL one :lmao:
I do agree with Frankeh it's so sad which is why I do want a different director, someone whom will actually utilize the character. The roster is so massive multiple characters can get spotlight.

Stay strong OroroDaGoddess! My reaction was way worse when I heard about Psylocke's contribution to the film.

Not only do they need a new director, they need new writers. They're trying to reboot the franchise, but what they (FOX) really need to do is reboot everyone. Director, Writers, Producers, etc.

These harsh reviews are coming in more and more. And I can't even say that their just "hating" for no reason 'cuz, all of them are complaining about the same thing.

Oh trust I have my letter ready to send to them, not that they will pay it much mind if any but i want them to know as a huge fan they can do so much better. In this environment now there's no time for hiccups they have to come hard, and short hanging the most iconic female superhero of color and one of the top 3 greatest XMen it's just unacceptable

I don't think it's fair to throw Alexandra Shipp under the bus just because the film's got negative reviews. I think she did well for the parts and scenes that they gave her. I love her accent and she even speaks Arabic in her introduction scenes. Keep in mind, she's a young and naive Storm in this film, and I'm sure she will grow up to be the regal and strong Storm that we are all familiar with if they continue to have her in the next film.

That's good.

Plus she's hot with great legs. Want to see more of her.

Oh no your misunderstanding me I have ZERO problem with Shipp I actually like her, I'm not even speaking on how she delivered in the role because I haven't heard anything negative about that. I'm speaking of the comment that her and Psylocke combined has less speaking then Magnetos wife. I was just thinking as 1/3 of the big three that she would have more to say I didn't want her as a silent henchman she's to big for that. I don't mind her even being a henchman I just want development and her fleshed and a director who cares about the character enough to make her comic accurate and not a possible silent henchman. I love Jean but she got development in the OT I was only hoping they moved on to ones who got no development instead of a constant rehash because Singer loves certain characters.

They just disrespect Storm over and over again. They really don't care anymore and they don't even try to hide it. I'm honestly over it and them...

See, the thing about that is...

I don't see how she's was "so great" if 8/10 reviews said she was so forgettable and all she did was just stand there like a action figure while apocalypses did all the work. Unless, you have seen the movie yourself?

Yes he has seen it, but I've heard nothing bad about her actual performance just that she didn't have much to do in the movie which truly isn't her fault. That's the directors/producers writers so I won't blame Shipp since her speaking roles were said to have been good as we're all the young cast. It was just focused on the wrong people, Storm should have gotten more according to others.

Yo uhm...I just read the last two pages of this thread.

What is all this news regarding the final edit of the film...and that Storm has once again been reduced to a hardly-speaking role and low usage in the final act?

Is this true? If so...

WHAT THE F***!?!?!?!?!? :cmad:

That is unacceptable. This character will never flourish under Singer.

Never. Him, nor any of the writers he works with, get this character all. They don't know what to do with her and it's mind boggling. How do you have literally the most popular superheroine next to Wonder Woman for 16 years and do absolutely nothing with her?!

Add on to the fact that she is one of the most popular minority female characters out there - they are sitting on a gold mine with this character and they continue to squander her.

I think it's due to the fact that Storm's greatest material is all in the comics, particularly the 80s run under Claremont. In addition, her story is a subtle narrative which spans years, and I doubt these busy film people have time to read through it all (they tend to adapt single iconic stories rather than read the entire run from top to bottom). There is not much to her in the 90s animated series, which is where Singer gets his inspiration from, nor in any other representation of X-Men.

I couldn't believe it at first but I guess we should've known better. Apparently her action scenes are all in the trailers (again). All she does is hover and throw some lightning. Oh and throw a car with some wind. So, pretty much same as DOFP. I wouldn't even mind nerfing her in action if she had a bigger role. But seems we get neither.

I mean, Magneto's wife and daughter getting more dialogue than her? I cannot deal.

Yeah, I don't hold it against Alexandra, especially since the actress doesn't even matter with how little they care about the character. All she has to do is look good while the effects are added to her later. Not trying to sound mean, but that's almost literally all Storm gets to do in these movies. Halle Berry never really captured the essence of Storm, for me, either, but she was usually sidelined as well.

I do think if they actually wanted to make Storm a fully formed character, they might attempt to cast more charismatic, seasoned actresses. But they clearly don't care.

Hey new to the board (as in finally registered), but been viewing these boards since Xmen first class :)

Massive storm fan and although haven't read much spoilers, I was disappointed to hear that Storm's role is much like DOFP. Gutted as Storm deserves justice.

That said, just came across this review. And it's giving me a bit more hope about Alex Shipp version of storm.

"With apologies to Halle Berry, X-Men: Apocalypse finally gets the weather-wielding mutant right! Berry’s sometimes there/sometimes not accent, bad wigs and stiff delivery are gone, replaced by newcomer Alexandra Shipp (Straight Outta Compton) as Ororo Munroe. We get what feels like the “real” Storm, with her white mohawk and eighties swagger. We even get to see her leading a band of kids who steal for food on the streets of Cairo, in a nod to her classic comic book origins. This Storm spends most of the movie serving the film’s villain, but it’s a treat to see her portrayed so well on screen for the first time."

Shipp has a better role as Storm than Halle's yet Shipp wasn't able to perform her part gracefully.
