Not entirely sure this requires a full season of television to pull off, but Flanagan would be the one to pull it off IMO… we’ll see.

I don’t know, Carrie’s been done to death at this point. And the 1976 film is as perfect as it’s gonna get.

I like Flanagan. But he can spin the wheels too much as witnessed with Fall of the House of Usher which should’ve been half as long and would’ve been much better for it.

The menstrual bleeding scene is going to be easy grosser.

whaa…?

I’m amused to see some people jumping on the “Samantha Sloyan should play Margaret White” train.

Low-hanging fruit. She basically already played that part on Midnight Mass.

Now, Kate Siegel? That would be a change-up.

Joking aside, we all know she'll be in it but I'll be surprised if she plays anyone other than the P.E. teacher.

I’ll trust Flanagan with anything but I’d much rather he focus on Dark Tower or adapt other King works that haven’t been done, especially The Talisman!

Hey hey hey, just because they’re shacked up doesn’t mean she isn’t capable of more. :o

Truthfully, though, yes I would probably go for someone outside the usual group of actors. Being Rebecca Ferguson back into the mix. Make Lily Rabe (married to Hamish Linklater) part of the family.

Ferguson or Rabe would be incredible as Mrs. White.

Frankly, based on VHS Beyond, would not be surprised if she directed episodes.

Flanagan touches on Carrie at around the 15 minute mark:

Man, just hearing him talk about his approach to the source material and how he’s going to adapt it for modern day has me super excited. He remixes works in such a way by adjusting them and tweaking them according to the way he wants to make them while maintaining the core of what people loved about the original story.

Also, a TV series based on a book about a socially awkward teenage girl with repressed trauma from being raised an ultra religious mother and being bullied at school developing psychokinetic powers and lashing out at and killing everyone who incurred her wrath is just the sort of cathartic release we need, considering the times we now live in.

Really curious as to who he’s going to get for the title role. Is he going to go with someone like Violet McGraw, who is actually the perfect age, or will it be an unknown?

Flanagan touches on Carrie at around the 15 minute mark:

Yeah, he’s saying all the right things. Social media, phones, metal detectors at schools. He’s also saying “why do it when it’s already been done prefect” so I appreciate he’s self aware.

Though he didn’t touch why it needs to be a series which I think is a mistake.

I also think they should go with an unknown. And a non-white Carrie would definitely help make it stand out from the others and obviously add different layers to Carrie.

Flanagan liked a comment asking “Time for filming Carrie?” Wonder if a massive casting drop is about to hit.

I hope he doesn’t go with a conventionally Hollywood attractive actress. In the book, Carrie’s described as heavier set and having acne, and getting someone closer to that would be a great way to set it apart from previous adaptations where they usually just cast a skinny, beautiful actress and do her up to try and make her look as frumpy as possible.

Take it with some salt.

Here's an interesting bit of casting news. According to Daniel Richtman, Milly Shapiro — of “Hereditary” fame — is in talks to play Carrie in Mike Flanagan's TV adaptation of the story. Samantha Sloyan (Hush) is in talks to play her mother.

Flanagan before the writer’s strike: The Dark Tower is my dream project and I can’t wait to share more of what we’re working on! We even have some of the roles cast!

Flanagan after the writer’s strike: HEY GUYS IMMA MAKE ANOTHER EXORCIST MOVIE BECAUSE THOSE ARE ALWAYS SO GOOD AND THEN IMMA WRITE A CLAYFACE MOVIE THAT NO ONE WANTS AND OH YEAH WE FOUND OUT THERE WERE ANOTHER 350 SHORT STORIES BETWEEN STEPHEN KING’S COUCH CUSHIONS THAT WE ALSO NEED TO TURN INTO MOVIES AND HOW ABOUT A CARRIE REMAKE NO ONE HAS DONE THAT

Just for that, I hope he never makes The Dark Tower. :o
