Mike Wieringo passed away from a heart attack this week, at the age of 44. For people who met him, and there are plenty, the reaction seems to be universal:
" punched in the chest "
" complete shock "
" a terrible loss "
And it's not just from the suddenness of it all. It's from the gaping hole that Mike has left in the lives of the many people he worked with and helped.
For those that knew him from his defining runs on FLASH, SPIDER-MAN and FANTATIC FOUR, he was a talented artist with a great sense of style. For the many, many people who knew him from conventions, chat-boards and other gatherings of young talent, he was a great guy and a kind-hearted mentor. He was always ready to sign a book, draw a sketch or give welcome advice to many an aspiring artist.
