Milla Jovovich in Capcom's Monster Hunter

Whenever someone asks you, "Why do video game movies always suck?" The answer should be, "Because Paul W.S. Anderson is always involved!"

And while it's true that he didn't direct EVERY bad video game adaptation, I'm sure you can find some loose connection there if you look hard enough. Maybe he co-wrote it. Maybe he produced it. Maybe he was the one who originally pitched the idea to the studio. Maybe he showed up on set one day with donuts that somehow sucked all the actors' talent out of them. All I know is that it's always his fault. ALWAYS.

He's also directed Mortal Kombat, arguably one of the better & more faithful adaptations.

Look, Anderson basically sucks, but let's not lay undue blame on the guy for the broader videogame-flick-schlock stuff. That's far bigger than him.

No, if you want to blame someone for the worst of the worst of video game adaptations, look no further than Uwe Boll.

These are the abominations he directed based loosely on video game properties.

2014 In the Name of the King: The Last Job
2011 In the Name of the King: Two Worlds
2011 BloodRayne: The Third Reich
2008 Far Cry
2007 BloodRayne: Deliverance
2007 Postal
2007 In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale
2005 BloodRayne
2005 Alone in the Dark
2003 House of the Dead

Don’t forget Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead also got crappy sequels not directed by him.

As someone who watched all PWSA films, I think this film will be total suck-fest. He doesn't care anymore. The last time he tried was in 2002. Some will argue 2004.

If it's edited as badly as the last Resident Evil movie, then I really don't think I can watch it.

I had a headache for hours after that nonsense.

She is a witch. No aging whatsoever.

ok, so that does look pretty accurate. Anderson has burned us before tho.

It's a Monster Hunter movie & the cinematic RE series had plenty of them. Let's just see monsters being hunted.

My thing is that you need someone on par with ILM, WETA, etc. to do these monsters. And a lesser house may make them look literally like game sprites

I fully expect that Milla's character is going to be some genetically altered superhero like the RE movies.

Keep in mind that not even all the Marvel Studio films are done by ILM and Weta. Other "lesser" vfx houses do a lot of work on those films. I'm pretty sure even star wars uses multiple vfx houses because one cant cover all the required work. So it's not a case of ILM or bust. Other Houses are capable of doing great vfx work too. We just dont hear about it as much. ILM and Weta suck up most of the PR and limelight in the industry.

That being said, it's a foregone conclusion that this film will have bad cgi. I really doubt it has the budget to have great cgi, and I dont think Anderson demands great cgi. None of his films have ever had great cgi.

.

After ILM and WETA, most preferred effects houses are MPC, Double Negative and Sony ImageWorks.

Sony ImageWorks has improved a lot.

So its taking the story of a hunter going to a region to study, and keep the local ecosystem in check. By slaying/capturing monsters who act aggressively. Then finding out some grander problem is causing upheaval, and needing to find the source.

Then taking that, and turning it into a story of modern day military troops falling into that world, and learning from the locals?

Ugh...Why do they keep doing this? You don't need a modern day person, let alone him/her being a trained military personnel, falling through a mystical portal to make a medieval setting interesting. Plus, I like Milla Jovovich enough that it's not just her, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the Resident Evil movies.

I want to see Milla as Morrigan in a Darkstalkers movie!

It's obvious they shot most of this **** in the desert areas, and the logo is underwhelming. But the monster looks cool.
