The movie was alright, but Hunt should've died.

That was such a crappy cop out the way they brought him back.

J.J. did a good job directing.

Well, this is the first movie of the summer, and also a lot of people are waiting for the more "fantasy oriented" movies coming.

Compared to the opening weekend of a lot of movies that have opened up the summer in early may, and taking in inflation of ticket prices, I don't think this is very impressive.

We'll see what kind of staying power it has for the rest of the weekend, and then the weekdays, followed by the second weekend.

Its not about staying power anymore, its all about having one big opening weekend.

Tom Cruise's action threequel Mission: Impossible IIIhttp://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=6882 made $17 million its opening day and is likely to end up around the $50 million mark or slightly higher for the weekend. Paramount released the film in 4,054 theatres, the fourth-widest release for a movie ever.

"M:i:III" will easily beat last year's Kingdom of Heaven, which opened to $19.6 million in 3,216 theaters the same weekend, but it may not surpass 2004's Van Helsing, which took in $51.7 million in 3,575 theaters. Reviews and word-of-mouth are strong enough for "M:i:III" that it could continue bringing in business over the next few weeks despite heavy competition.

Well its happened with every movie I have gone to hoping to see a comic book film trailer...I get nothing. Yeah I got POTC2 but I dunno. I never really got into the first one but the second one I will at least check out on dvd. The best trailer I saw was Nacho Libre...looks ****in hilarious.

While I wouldn't have actually killed Julia, I felt cheated that they whiffed on the ballsiness of that opening scene. It felt cheap and disappointing to me. "Oh it wasn't her the whole time, screw you!"

50m is in the low end of the industry expectations. Not a disaster, but definitely below what such a well-established franchise was supposed to make, especially when it´s the first major release of the summer. It raises questions: is it the first sign of another slump? Was the franchise less solid than people thought - maybe the fact the MI movies have no continuity either in story, tone or style and the character of Ethan was never particularly relatable or human? Are people more interested in waiting for the word-of-mouth than flocking for the opening weekend and take the risk of disappointment? Have the Tomkat and scientology controversies finally caught up with Tom´s starpower?

Either way, I hope the movie´s not a failure cuz I love JJ Abrams work in the first couple seasons of Alias - the show kinda went down after that - and Lost. But it´s gonna need strong legs if it wants to make at least 200m.

Well the first big early releases, first big releases of the summer in May in 04 and 05 disappointed and underperformed at the BO, at least well below expectations.

I will say, one problem I have with the movies is the lack of continuity and consistency between them. The ONLY returning character from the last 2 movies is Luther. So I think that element you raise about the lack of continuity is a good one.

I think the Pirates sequels, where you have the ENTIRE cast and crew coming back for more might perhaps be an indicator of this.

Here's what I say. Unless the movie has fantastic staying power on weekdays and subsequent weekends, it won't make 200 million at the US BO.

Was it because he got kidnapped when he was in the bathroom? If so, then the other guy should have gotten killed too.

This is by far the deepest month I can ever remember (Mi3, then Poseidon, then Da Vinci AND Over the Hedge, then X3).

In the original he figured out the whole scheme and planned around it. In this one it all had to be explained to him. He's losing his touch.

I think it would've been a great twist had Cruise figured Musgrave out and work around it, because he favors misdirection.
