Mission: Impossible 3

How flippin' cool was that scene? I grinned like the Kool-Aid guy with that one.

^Yeah, that part reminded me of the Ocean's 11 movies.

Early Box Office Estimates:

Mi3: $48 million

BB had less than $50m opening weekend, but it had legs and made more than $200m.

Yeah, but every week this month a new blockbuster movie opens. If Poseidon doesn't knock it off #1 (which I actually don't think it will), it'll diminish it's gross. Then Da Vinci Code comes out and this thing is in the past.

I already know Over the Hedge is going to be one of the few blockbusters this time around, the media blitz is harrowing. DaVinci may surprise, and Poisdeon may do some business depending on how people view it and word of mouth.

Still, $48 million has to be some sort of record for a first time director. Abrams should be very pleased with himself.

Screw it. I'm seeing this again. This message will self destruct in 5 trillion years.

Yeah, but it had a five-day opening. For a simple opening weekend, that´s low for such a hyped and expensive movie. But yeah, it´s the word-of-mouth that will make it or break it.

nah, it shoud atleast be able to get 130mill with ok WOM, like F4

That part near the end credits when Luther does that pose, was that a little dig at Tomkat's stint on Oprah? Because it seemed uncanny in how similar it was.

I think it was more of Luther taking a dig at Ethan getting a job at the white house.

If I was Paramount I'd be a little more concerned about this opening weekend.

It's not getting as good reviews as Batman Begins did. It didn't have a 5 day opening weekend headstart either.

It ain't the marketing either, this movie is ALL over the place. I'm seeing tons of TV spots everywhere, making of specials, etc.

You think maybe, just maybe people got sick of Tom Cruise acting like a goofball in public?

Well, it already made 70m overseas, so the foreign markets may save its ass in the end.

Or maybe the box office is still in a slump.

The BO is ahead of 2005 so far (thanks to Ice Age and Scary Movie).

I blame Tom Cruise. This makes no sense to me. Hell, these mofos went on 106 & Park and had a huge special for the film. 106 & Park!!

$48 mill is a huge disappointment. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but for a 4,000 theatre blockbuster with such a massive appeal and rock solid reviews? It won't have legs cause this month is killer.

But I am saying there have been a couple movies that just have been hit or miss for some reason in the past 2 years. But I think MI3 might get around the 200 million mark worldwide at the end and kick ass on dvd. So in the end I think it will be successful just not as big of a success as people anticipated.

I thought Fantastic Four ENDED the slump ;) .

And wouldn't you agree that the quality and box office don't match for FF?? It seems good serious movies haven't been making a boatload like kid and dumb flicks.

Well, if it made 70mill overseas this past weekend then I think it's a sign that the film will likely do its big money overseas and just will be a mediocre "hit" here in the States.

It's the beginning of may, college students (like this one) are taking their finals and trying to get their summer plans together. It's going to do fine in the B.O. I know of a ton of people who are very anxious for the movie and haven't gotten a chance to see it yet or are waiting to see if people like it before shelling out nearly $10 for a ticket.

The Inside Man did very well.

MI:3 isn't exactly what I'd call a serious "adult" movie either. They want the kids to be seeing it as well.

It is a very sad fact, too.

Nevertheless, summer 2006 (with POTC 2, SR, X3, Da Vinci, Over the Hedge, Cars, etc.) will beatdown summer 2005 (Revenge of the Sith and co). However, for the year overall, 2006 should be worried. 2005 ended REALLY well with Goblet of Fire, King Kong, and Narnia.

True. It has next week to make the rest of its significant money, although it'll be tested head on with Poseidon (very similar target audience).
