DC Animation Mister Miracle Animated Series

The series follows Scott Free, known worldwide as Mister Miracle, the greatest escape artist who ever lived. With his wife, Big Barda, Scott seemed to have built the perfect life on Earth, until everything began to unravel. As war erupts between the planets Apocalypse and New Genesis, Scott’s adoptive father, Darkseid, has apparently obtained the Anti-Life Equation, a devastating force capable of dominating the universe.

With carnage escalating on both sides, Mister Miracle becomes the last hope to end the conflict and restore peace. But the power of the Anti-Life Equation might already be affecting Scott’s mind, distorting his reality and threatening the happiness he shares with Barda.

Warner & DC Studios Making ‘Mister Miracle’ Animated Series With Showrunner Tom King

Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are taking the next step on their animated journey with a TV version of the Mister Miracle comic book series.

Tom King, who wrote the Mister Miracle comics with Mitch Gerads, is showrunning and EPing this one, which is in production although network remains TBD. The show comes after James Gunn’s Creature Commandos, which is currently in production on its second season for HBO Max. No details were given on voice cast.

Mister Miracle, which Warner said will tell the “odyssey” of main character Scott Free aka Mister Miracle, is based on the critically acclaimed and Eisner Award-winning 12-issue comic book series.

“No prison can hold him,” says the logline. “No trap can contain him. He is Scott Free, the worldwide celebrity sensation known as Mister Miracle, and he is the greatest escape artist who ever lived. But can he pull off the ultimate trick – and escape death itself?”

Logline goes on to say the show begins with “something gone horribly wrong with the perfect life that Scott and his warrior wife Big Barda have built for themselves on Earth.”

King is currently also in production on HBO’s Lanterns TV series.

The news was unveiled at Annecy, where animated versions of major IP has been big business. Yesterday, a packed crowd was shown early designs and footage of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, the first animated series in the franchise. Later, the BBC unveiled an animated version of Doctor Who for pre-school kids.

I hope this isn’t too direct of an adaptation of King’s comic.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but it’s already something that I have to go back to. I don’t need what’s essentially just a higher budget motion comic. Take some liberties.

Now that Sgt. Rock is dead(ish) and Clayface seems de-Flanaganized this is the most excited I am for a DCU project. One of the top five superhero comics ever.

Sources tell Nexus Point News that casting is currently underway and character descriptions have revealed the supporting cast. The series is set to feature Darkseid as the series’ antagonist, Highfather, Lightray, Orion, and Funky Flashman. The series will adapt King’s 12-issue Eisner award winning Mister Miracle. Confirmed plot points include Scott being infected by the Anti-Life Equation and most importantly, his suicide attempt.

Darkseid is described as the physical manifestation of all evil in the universe. He speaks in a silly, over-the-top manner which is balanced with his calm, but confident demeanor. Funky Flashman serves as a narrator in certain scenes and his Stan Lee inspiration is very prevalent in this adaptation of the character. Described as a “snake oil salesman,” he’s very articulate with his words and knows how to sell a product. Lightray was raised alongside Orion and is very loyal to Highfather and Orion. He considers himself superior to Scott and Barda and sees himself as too good for the missions assigned to him by Highfather. Highfather is the all-knowing leader of New Genesis who has trouble connecting with the other New Gods due to his status and power, especially Scott who has resented him childhood for his decision to give him up to Darkseid. Orion, the son of Darkseid, carries his father’s anger, sins, and ambition, but has repressed it since childhood since being raised by Highfather. Orion will serve as a mentor to Scott in the series.

Elseworld or DCU?
I’m not sure that it really matters. The original comic kind of plays either way.

I guess if I had to choose I’d prefer it to be elseworld so that the future plans for DCU aren’t too beholden to how the story ends up. But either way, I love the Fourth World corner of the DC universe and I’d prefer that it remain separate from our earth.
