MJ Defenitly Kidnapped By Venom

Yeah, it's been central. But that doesn't mean it has to be. In all actuality, there was no real reason for it in SM2, if only for the convenience of having MJ learn Peter's secret. And after doing it twice now, a third time is beating a dead horse with a broken stick.

I agree that MJ being the damsel in distress is wearing a bit thin now. But there was a real reason for it in SM-2.

Octavius obviously waited to confront Peter until he was with someone he cared about. Ock clearly intended to take a hostage to ensure Peter would deliver Spider-Man to him.

It'll be the same kind of scenario in SM-3. Brock kidnaps MJ to make sure Spider-Man comes after her. It's getting old, but from the perspective of the movie, it is necessary if the villain wants to make sure Spider-Man shows up.

There is only 7 stories in the world to actually tell *or 15 or something there is not many lol*. And to me this is a centralized theme. Also to add with what Ock was saying, Spidey was also trying to save New York as well, not just MJ.

But like I said earlier, and that noob that said something just ignored: you just can't get some random person off the street, to get Spidey to want to come to the rescue, there needs to be a strong reason for him to go to the construction site, almost on a suicide mission. And MJ is that one thing he cares about above all else.

Damsel in distress...what else could you do to have Spidey go up to the construction site.....save the world? Been done numerous times. Save some one else? Go up there just because? If you think about it there is not a lot you really could do in the bounds of the movies. To me it's not an annoying factor.

I remember that some time ago, I think it was Retroman that said, that there was a scene when Mj was fighting with Peter and enter ina cab, just to realize that Eddie was already on the cab, that goes off right when she enters.
So this is it.

That and in the trailer there are a few shots of MJ in a torn up Taxi cab, and the shot of Spidey ontop of a torn up Taxi cab with black webbing all around him.

That's probably it... although I had wished he had done the classic scene where he frightens MJ at their apartment and goes "Honey, I'm Home"...:woot:
But this is great anyway..!

It's not thin. It's anorexic. ;)

I never actually thought of Octavius intentionally waiting and scouting Peter out to find the right time to strike, but I do pefectly understand why he took MJ. For me, though, it just wasn't as strong of a reason as Norman's was. There were other ways Ock could've threatened Peter to ensure he'd bring Spidey there. Again, it's not a terrible plot point, it's just one that begins to feel a bit unimaginative.

It just ticks me off that MJ ONES AGAIN will be kidnapped by the villain.. it has happened in ALL THREE MOVIES!.. very very UNoriginal... but then again, who else, right?...

I do. It would have been alot easier to just accost Peter in his apartment, rather than follow him to some cafe where he was meeting MJ.

He waited for Peter to be with someone he knows he cares for.

Norman's and Otto's reasons were equally strong. Both wanted Spider-Man to show up. And both knew MJ means alot to Peter, and that he will definitely do all he can to save her.

All villains know one way to quickly and easily get at Spiderman is to grab someone close to him..... MJ is his girl...obviously she will be the first to come to mind. Especially how the villains at some point either finds out the Peter is Spiderman or Peter's relationship to Spiderman.

Ha Ha. What would be great is if a villain kidnaps Peter waiting for Spiderman to show. LOL! :D

However, Norman actually knew MJ and the connection she had to Harry and then Peter. It was far more personal in Norman's kidnapping of MJ.

Personal or not, the reasons were equally valid.

I agree.

MJ was just a tool for DocOck to get to Spiderman. Norman wanted to hurt him, "the cunning warrior attacks neither body or mind... the heart Osborn, attack his heart". He went after AuntMay and MJ.... I say that was definitely more personal. Good point cmill.

yeah Ock cared about nothing but getting Spidey for Harry.

Agree to disagree. Norman knew MJ left HIS son to be with Peter, and desired to hurt everyone Peter loved, and not just him. Ock had no idea who MJ was, even referring to her as Peter's girlfriend (which wasn't the case) and simply kidnapped her to force Peter to call on Spidey. It's a valid reason, yes, but I don't belive it's equally as valid as Norman's was.

Norman took MJ because Peter loved her. He perked up when when Harry said Peter loves her. He'd already struck at May, so there was only MJ left to bait him with.

She was a tool to lure him and to punish him. Same as she was a tool to lure Spider-Man to meet Ock.

A means to an end.

So everyone thinks that if they really wanna hurt Spiderman/Peter Parker they only have to kidnap his girl, why don't make the guy goes beserk by killing the girl and throw her dead body over into the news.
That would make Spidey goes mad and loose it.

Because, Spiderman have not face that type of villain yet. The villains he has face to this point have been calculating, thinking villains.

And Norman had every intention of killing MJ either way. She was more than bait.

"Had you not been so selfish your little girlfriend's death would have been quick and painless but now that you've really pissed me off, I'm gonna finish her, nice and slow..."

Yes, because he was punishing Peter. This was not about MJ, it was about Peter. Why do you think he even told Peter he was going to kill MJ?? He was taunting him.

Same reason why he killed Gwen Stacy in the comics. It wasn't about Gwen. It was about hurting Peter. She was a tool to punish him. Same as MJ in the movie.

Okay, so Norman kidnapped MJ and taunted Peter saying he was going to kill the woman he loved all because he was punishing, torturing, and tormenting Peter. Ock kidnapped MJ for the mere sake of forcing Peter to draw out Spider-Man, which could have easily been done by other means.

Again, good reasons, but IMO the former is moreso valid than the latter.

I'm sure Ock could have found other means. But what other means?? Anything more simple than taking a loved one prisoner??

I doubt it. Quick, simple, and effective. And guaranteed to work.

So it's the same deal as always... but you know... It doesn't matter to me. She is the girl/woman of his life, so every villain who gets to know who spider-man really is and that she's the woman on his side will kidnap her, cause I'm sure that due to MJs career whole new york knows with whom she's making out... with peter parker.

From my version of the Spidey 2 script:

Ock slams through a wall and enters the cafe, grabs Peter with a tentacle, and brings him close.

Doc Ock: Find Spider-Man, or I'll kill you.

Ock exits.
