Morrison's Multiversity

Flex Mentallo is like the blueprint of Multiversity.

Also, Kill Your Boyfriend is really good too.

Flex Mentallo and seven soldiers are beyond words to me.

Did Multiversity just confirm that the Flash could be the most powerful hero in the DCU?

Don't mean to derail this thread, but I didn't feel like creating a whole new one just for this question. What do you guys think is the best Morrison book/run that I've never read? I've read All Star Superman, Final Crisis, Batman, and We3. Reading Multiversity too, of course. I have New X-Men, JLA, and Seaguy that I'm going through now or very soon. So out of these, which should I tackle next?

Animal Man
Invisibles
Doom Patrol
Seven Soldiers
other?

I don't think you could really go wrong with any of this list. Since you've mostly read his superhero work, AM, DP, and SS will be more familiar to you. The Invisibles is similar in the way all of Morrison's works are similar in tone, but it's a bit more "radical" than the others you posted. I'll also put up a recommendation for The Filth.

If you like the first matrix movie you will love invisibles..

If you're curious what this means, JT, Morrison has always alleged that the Wachowski(then) Brothers ripped off The Invisibles when they created The Matrix and it's something some of his fans have always latched onto. It's horse****, frankly. It didn't rip off The Invisibles anymore than Morrison ripped off any of his own influences.

I don't say this to call out luis or anything, but I figured I'd let you know that it's really not much like The Matrix outside some surface details, if that has any influence on you.

I have been excited for this project for a long time and 1 issue in so far I can say that it does not disappoint. I can't wait to read the rest.

nightshade, captain atom, blue beetle, peacemaker, and question. I know DC doesn’t own the rights too peter thunder..

I'm really interested to see how Pax Americana shapes up. Morrison doesn't seem to be a huge fan of the Watchmen as a story, though he respects the form of it very highly.

Try Flex Mentallo too.

Third time reading through it and I'm still gleaning new insights. Haven't had this much fun with a comic in a while.

I don't know if it's intentional, but the main conflict bears a great resemblance to the Eclipse in Berserk. Five godlike beings create a hellish landscape of dead bodies and tortured souls encircling the Sun, massacre a team of heroes for fun, terrorize the last people standing, transform one into their equal, and the other endeavors both to stop them and cure his ally. The Gentry even look a bit like the God Hand; put Femto's wings on a Behelit and you get Intellectron. If the parallels are coincidental, it's a pretty massive coincidence.

I'm going with coincidence. The kind of situation you described seems fairly in tone with previous Morrison works, he likes the ideas of alternate worlds, and we've seen the idea of godlike beings from hellish worlds as early as Doom Patrol. I mean, it's possible, but my guess is that's more broad strokes that look like something else.

Just got done reading it, a bit confused. Story felt a bit convoluted. The beginning, part of Earth-7 where we meet Thunderer and some of Harbinger's Multiversity is what confused me the most. Though I really did enjoy it and got the basic plot down.

Earth-8 (Marvel spoof) was cool. How carrot iterates that comics are bottled messages of a neighboring universe was very sci-fi and gloriously awesome.

If it helps, Earth-7 is a pastiche of the Ultimate Marvel universe. It's presumably a critique of the extinction event storylines Ultimatum and Cataclysm. There's already a lot of writing around the 'net about who and what the Gentry is; I don't think we'll get a full picture until later. Same for the Harbinger. DC continuity is hard enough to parse through without a recent reboot as it is, so I don't know how she's simultaneously aware of the original Crisis' singular Monitor and the race of Monitors we were introduced to in the 52 comic series.

is eternia a parallel earth....you know He-man's home world???? it has been crossed over in the new 52.....just wondering.

Officially, no, I don't believe it's part of the 52 Earths. That's just a random crossover. But, as I mentioned before, technically there's an infinite number of alternate earths so why ****ing not

Finished issue 1 last night. Quite honestly, this was an absolute joy to read. Morrison injected so many layers into this comic that it's almost bewildering to think about. I can't wait to read more.

I don't know if I'm more excited for the Captain Marvel issue or the Super-Sons issue.

I've re-read issue 1 like 15 times now. I just can't stop. As a huge Final Crisis/Action Comics #9 fan it was just too damn good.

This was a great video. Lots of clarification for those still out the loop.

That was the best explanation of the multiversal map on youtube. Though they forgot to point out one awesome thing. Earth 6 is the "Just Imagine Stan Lee created DC" universe. Were we saw books like this take place

Funnily enough the Gods of Apokalips have direct influence over this world which could explain it's "grounded grittiness" like what was found in a lot of Lee's Marvel concepts (I.e.: Spider-Man, The Hulk).

Aligned in contrast with it is Earth 51 which is the Jack Kirby earth where characters like Kamandi exist. The Gods of New Genesis have direct influence over this world which is more whimsical and sci-fi like a lot of the Marvel concepts Kirby came up with (I.e.: Galactus and his herald, Asgard, Inhumans etc.).

That was such a dope approach to take having Kirby and Lee on opposite sides of the spectrum just like Highfather and Darkseid. It comes full circle since Kirby's DC realms could be interpreted as a way to kinda highlight the differences in approach to a more "Marvel" like plane of existence (Apokalips) & a more "DC" like one (New Genesis). It's both logical and metatextual. Genius.
