Mortal Kombat reboot, or MK3 ?

I say NONE! It's really overrated, plus, these movies don't have any potential of becoming good movies anyway!

definetly needs a restart. i could only imagine what they could do nowadays with effects and a solid true-to-game script. nothing specifically for children tho, has to be a hard pg-13 movie. i wouldn't mind the characters being nobodies but if they can act and perform the moves, i'm all for it. they need to just follow the game stories and everythign will be cool

i had an idea that would be incredibly awesome (i think) for a trilogy of movies filmed in sequence. they would be the stories from the first 3 games respectively. first one with older shang tsung, kano, and goro as the villains. 2nd would have shao kahn, kintaro and young shang tsung as the villains. the 3rd would be shao kahn, sheeva, sindel, and motaro. you cant just go off the villains but the first trilogy of games had some really great stories to tell from both the good guys and bad guys. from the original sub-zero being bad and the 2nd being helpful and an ally. by the end of the 3rd film liu will have defeated shao kahn (pummel him to the brink of death, possibly cripple him) and raiden would be accepted as an elder god. obviously there would be the death of johnny cage but i think that should be reserved for the beginning of the 3rd film when shao kahn invades earthrealm.

the ideas i have (past what i put above) would also be ideal for either a standalone trilogy or if they decided to make a follow-up trilogy there would be enough elements present to connect events into the 2nd trio. i'd have shang tsung petrified with magic in the end of the 2nd movie and if they never made a 2nd trio it would work , but with the 2nd trio, the middle movie of that series would have quan chi seek out shang tsung and return him to form and then they would kill shao kahn. leave his death for the villains instead of liu doing that.

if they made the 2nd trilogy the middle film would be like the empire strikes back of mortal kombat. liu would die by the hands of shang and raiden, shang and quan would all be killed (among others) by onaga (would be the end of the film leading into the last and 6th film which would follow the events of deception). i'm a big mk nerd so i know practically all there is to know and feel certain elements would be so great to see in film. there would just have to be the dedication to make this all work. as long as the scripts were well written, the effects were nothing short of great, some fantastic fights and choreography and they stick to the source material these movies would do so well i think we would get the 6 films (not gunna hold my breath tho)

Knowing them they try to direct this to children and have a PG Dragon Ball Evolution like movie. Hope not. Also they might make it trash like Street Fighter was.

I just don't see Mortal Kombat being marketed to children.

I suggest a new, unrelated story, if not a do-over. Because let's face it, MK 1 was left open for a cliffhanger, but that was destroyed by the sequel. The thing is, MK has so many characters, factions, and subplots, that you could get away with a movie of it without having to touch the main story points of it. On the other hand, we could end up with "The Legend of Sonya".

That said, rumor has it filming may start in September, so who knows what the outcome will be? Here's hoping they at least put a budget in it!

Well, it wouldn't be the first time.

I can totally see that happening!

Shang Tsung: "Goro!! FINISH IT!!!"

Goro: "GARRR!!! Yes, master!!"

*Goro proceeds to put the finishing touches on the birthday cake he especially made for Liu Kang, making sure to add the pretty flowers on top*

lol

and Goro will be played by vinnie jones lol

Throw in a voiceover saying "FRIENDSHIP??" and it'd be somewhat game-accurate. :cwink:

It's not filming in September. Impossible.

I want them to do the first game and include Sub-Zero vs Scorpion.

I think the legend of sonya blade is a waste of time, just like street fighter the legend of chun li. Not many people care about these second rate characters, we want to a movie with the entire game cast.
If they do, make movies over individual characters like lui kang or kung loa or raiden and make them animated direct to dvd movies so your not wasting time and money trying to make a live action that no one wants to see .
But I think they should start fresh with an mk1 movie, make it rated r, but don't make so rediculous that people end up hating it.

I personally think MK1 was great and nailed the concept. It didn't have insane violence but it didn't need to; it kinda proved an MK movie doesn't need to rely on gore and fatalities to be awesome.

MK2 royally sucked though.

I guess the idea of a reboot bothers me because I thought MK1 was great. I personally would rather see them reboot it with a different idea, like a prequel about Kung Lao or something. Or even Sub Zero. I don't see much point of just straight up re-doing MK1 because it's already good.

hmm, what if Eli Roth directed MK3 or whatever its going to be called
you'll get real fatalities

Re-boot FTW. I've never seen the old movies & I don't want too, they look crappy.

Sonya Blade was hot in both MK movies though. A movie about her would fail though. I think she should be in MK3 or a reboot though.

True...but can he do action?

dont know, he could try

btw Spider-Vader, Sonya Blade was hot in both films you should watch at least the first one

The idea if remaking them isn't because they sucked, its to update a story and bring another perspective on the franchise. I think its too late to do a sequel its been too long since mk2, and mk2 sucked so you don't want to scare away the old and new GA because the last movie was terrible. Reboot ftw.

they need to restart the franchise. have a story that spands more than one movie in mind when part 1 is made for this really to shine. i just dont see mk being one solitary film. but i also dont' want to see this movie be made into a piece of crap that is only about the action. it needs to not be corny and take itself seriously when it needs to but mainly the story has to be the best part with the fights and the acting coming in second

I think it's important to have it at least a bit corny. I think the first one nailed it in terms of seriousness to corniness. You can't have a movie where people are shooting fireballs and crap take itself completely serious; otherwise you end up with The Legend of Chun Li. :o

so it should be between Dragonball and Chun Li

i didnt see Chun Li so i dont really know lol
