Mortal Kombat reboot, or MK3 ?

lol yea but its WB, and lately WB hasnt disappoint

To go back to the opriginal question, I dont think the first MK warrants a reboot. Its way too early plus fx and story didnt date much, if at all. Not that its some great movie, but for what it is it does it job very well. So I would prefer MK3 instead of a reboot

How is it too early for a reboot? More than a decade has passed; just look at the Punisher and Hulk movie franchises in recent years.

Yeah, the movie was good for its time. Nowadays, though, the story can be greatly improved upon, the effects can actually look good instead of cheesy.

And besides, do you really want a sequel to Annihilation?

Why not? Just because it's a sequel doesn't mean it has to be a piece of crap like Annihilation was. They could easily continue with the same characters while basically avoiding the mess that was Annihilation.

I personally think a reboot is a crappy idea because MK1 is fine the way it is. Yeah, the effects are a little dated, but is that really reason enough to remake it? Other than the effects the movie is a damn good adaptation of the game, even if you disagree with some of the creative liberties they took. It's still one of, if not the best videogame adaptations ever.

That's why I think either a prequel with new characters or a sequel is a better way to go.

They should just get James Remar again. Everyone knows he was the best Raiden.
lambert was best , reamr would better fit fujin, ask most people on the midway boards who was the better mk movie raiden,

i think its been way to long to do another sequal. plus the story wasnt all that good for the first 2, and they killed off one of my favorite characters if they remade it we would actually get to see them build up a team. and the way they did scorpion and sub-zero in the first 1 was ruined. i could understand scorpion bein killed by johnny cage cause he can come back but they let liu kang kill the origanal sub-zero when everybody knows that scorpion killed him. and they barely even aluded to the fact that scorpion and sub-zero were rivals. if they do another one it needs to be a remake and scops and zero's rivalry has to be a part of the story. otherwise this wont be good enough, and plus i hate seein sequals without most of the original cast. changin sonya was a good move IMO, jax and johnny too because jax didnt play a big part in the first and johnny died at the beginning of the second.

I'd rather see a reboot directed (and starring) Stephen Chow.

is that the dude from american pie

nevermind. im thinkin of john cho.

Jason Statham as Kano.........interesting. I'd be on board with that.

It'd be interesting to see some iterations of the costumes from Deception and forward.

that was my idea. i liked scorpion best in mortal kombat da. sub-zeros second costume in deception, raiden in da too. the original movies costumes were just sorta plain. especially in annihilation, shao kaun's mask was made of rubber. i dont think anybody's budjet is so tight that they couldnt afford anything other than rubber for a mask.

yeah, screw rubber get a real skull! some of thenew costumes would rock on screen,

^ mos def, it aint hard to do the costumes better especially now even in a low budget movie.

After the popularity of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow in the GI Joe movie, it seems to stand to reason that a new Mortal Kombat movie could find success by being about Sub-Zero and focusing on his rivalry with Scorpion. I think Legend of Chun Li was on to something with focusing on just a few characters, but unfortunately it ended up being garbage anyway.

exactly,i think they focused o t many diferent haracters who gad nearly been reduced to stock characters, and i still thik cassamasa shoul return as scorp, i mean the guy has his own martial arts scholls and hes a multi champion!

Lawsuit Might Hold Up Mortal Kombat Reboot:

We’ve been hearing for a while now that a new Mortal Kombat feature film was in the works, be it a new sequel directed by Christopher ‘mink’ Morrison or a reboot written by screenwriter Oren Uziel, author of the Black List 2009 entry Shimmer Lake. But a pesky reoccurring lawsuit might keep the video game franchise from returning to the big screen.

Filed by film producer Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) and his production company Threshold Entertainment against Warner Bros/Midway Games, the suit alleges intellectual property claims to the Mortal Kombat franchise. The action was filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles, and states that Warner Bros has “failed to work with Threshold in the development and production of the third ‘Mortal Kombat’ film,” and has avoided communication with the company, even though there have been recent reports that a new screenwriter has been hired to develop a MK reboot.
While it is always sad to see a legal mess hold up production of a potential feature, it is far too hard to formulate an opinion on which company is in the right on this one. It is far too complicated of a mess to make judgements, Personally, I’ve never been a fan of the first two films, and think that Paul W.S. Anderson’s original feature is far overrated among video game fans. The game was fun for its day, but I don’t believe there is really enough material for a feature length story deserving of big screen distribution.

A sequel is a bad idea, simply because we'd have to get all the actors back and also the original wasn't that great to begin with, anyway; a reboot is much better and with a fresh start it can maybe avoid some of the pitfalls from the previous 2 installments.

I agree. Plus the last movie was so long ago that most people have forgotten it. Except maybe people who appreciate bad movies.
