- To compare a fun summer popcorn blockbuster with Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

- To say any great movie of its genre is "the Citizen Kane" or "The Godfather" of said genre.

- To criticize a movie for being exactly what it was supposed to be, like a slasher teen horror movie being full of "cheap scares".

- To pick on a movie because of some off-screen **** concerning the stars - Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes being nominated for Razzies for WOTW and BB, Jersey Girl being trashed cuz of the Bennifer thing.

When they praise a movie by calling it "A triumph"

I still don't see why Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes were nominated for Razzies for their WOTW and BB roles.
They weren't SPECTACULAR, but they did a good job.
I really hate 'bandwagon hating' :( :down

I'd say the insertion of some kind of "funny quip" that can be used as a quote on (for instance) rottentomatoes.

Example: "Riddick-ulous!"

Ugh, I hate that crap. Some of them put so much effort into being clever (If you can call it that) that they forget to create a decent review.

Ha, that's how it was with the Godfather video game.
I'm addicted to magazines so I read about 12 reviews of the game.
EVERY single one..."This game is an offer you SHOULD refuse." or "Definitely an offer you can't refuse."

Idiots.

Most cliché things done by fanboys:

Praise critics when they happen to have the same opinion.
Bash critics when they happen to have a different opinion.
:)

Oh man, I know  :down

(I actually love that movie....shhh!! :()

"a great summer blockbuster" its old now

"the greatest ride this summer" old

"scarier/more horrifying than the ring" stop it!!!!

"the greatest ending since the usual suspects(or something of that nature)" shut up!

"if alfred hitchcock was alive he would applaud this movie to his death"
"scariest movie since psycho...hitchcock would be pleased"
-- oh god!!!

use star ratings. Why stars? why not, I don't know, happy faces?

If I hear one more critic call a movie "spellbinding" or "mesmerizing" I'm going to kill somebody.

"a laugh out loud comedy"

anything with my big fat greek wedding

YEAH THOSE ARE ****ING CALLED WIZARDS NOT CRITICS!!

- To hate a whole genre simply cuz those critics don´t belong to the core audience of that genre - who wants to hear the opinion of a fat bald fifty-something guy about movies for teenagers?

"Breathtaking", "Heart-pounding"...

Yeah, one day I'd like to see a critic write "a laugh silently to yourself" comedy.

As for me, I hate "recipe" reviews:

i.e.: "Take one part Godfather, two parts Pulp Fiction and a dash of Scarface, and you've got the latest crime thriller from Brian DePalma."

I think Richard Roeper still does this on occasion.

The latest one I've seen is "Superman Returns is more than super, it's superb!"
