Mother loses bid to ban Harry Potter books

This woman is going to hell for being an ignorant jackass.
I wish I knew this woman, so I could say this to her face.

Fine with me.

I now refer to him as little Zod or little Hitler.

Oddly, he likes the Zod name.

She looks like a bitter b'tch.

I blame her husband, maybe if he serviced her a few times a month she wouldn't find silly things to complain about.

did it say she was married?
and your right, she does look like a bitter b****.
She probably treats her kids like s*** and they probably hate her.

So...according to her, what books are okay to read other than the Bible?

A Purpose Driven Life.

She stated that "Chronicles of Narnia" would be acceptable.

Do you really want kids knowing how to make chemical explosives?

Do you really want kids reading publications from the Klu Klux Klan?

Do you really want your child exposed to pictures of people being raped?

If they're old enough to read 900 page books then I think they're old enough to be exposed to those things with adult comment, supervision and explanation.

And I've never understood this idea that reading stuff is the root of the danger.
I knew that if you put rat poison in yer Mom's omellette, she might get sick or die after eating it. But this information did not make me want to put rat poison in her omellette.

I believe everyone should read Mein Kampf, Das Kapital, KKK rants, the Bible, whatever....and then after being exposed to these ideas, they should think about what their opinion is of these ideas, and since kids are stupid n00bs on planet Earth, the parents can bring up counter arguments for these ideas should they not naturally occur to the child.

For INSTANCE......if your kid is reading a Harry Potter book, and really digs it...and so, wants to get a magic wand and give his heart to Satan to gain the ability to fly and transform into werewolf and make things float through the air, etc. ????

You.....might want to explain to them that, um, Harry Potter is a fantasy book, for entertainment purposes, and that we can't really become a Warlock and gain magical powers.

I totally agree, Wilhelm. It's complete hogwash. Kids, you do NOT need to give your heart to Satan in order to gain the ability to turn into a werewolf, okay?

Even though this is a bit driven out of proportion, her concern is valid...

Exactly. You only need to give your heart to Satan if you want to fly.

No, that's not true either. You only have to give him a kidney and you've got two of those, anyway.

So I guess she just skips over the part where the Villain of the LWW is a Witch, the series has magical creatures, and the world was created by a Lion with god-like powers.
Yeah...She's a f***ing loon.

The only thing it validates for me is that there are people out there who would rather try to censor everything they dislike rather than try to engage in actual hands on parenting with their children.

Yeah, but see BAD witches are okay to read about because that tells kids that witches are BAD and shouldn't be idolized. Harry Potter has a bunch of GOOD witches in the series and well...we wouldn't want good little Christian kids (should there BE any other kind of kid?) to get the wrong idea about witches and somehow romanticize them, would we?

I agree that trying to ban a Harry Potter book is just plain stupid, but keep in mind there are worse books out there that should be kept out of children's way until they can understand it in a mature way...

her point is valid from a certain point of view, just not with Harry Potter.
