Hey, I'm just going by wht it says. It's an evil attempt, not an attempt to indoctinate chidren into the evil Wiccan religion. Further, since there is such a thing as an evil attempt, one expects there is conversely a righteous attempt.

I guess it's all in how you make the attempt.

Hiding your indoctrination attempts as 'harmless fantasy' - evil.
Being forthright in your indoctrination attempts - righteous?

I think from her perspective, Wicca itself constitutes a problematic and evil ideology to her as Link pointed out, which is why she would view any attempts to indoctrinate children to it, covertly or not, evil.

There are a LOT of housewives in Gwinnett county GA with too much time on their hands. If I didn't have in-laws that lived in Lawrenceville, I'd never go out there myself.

You'd think the fact that Christmas is celebrated in the Harry Potter books and movies - complete with Christmas carols - would shut up those who claim the books are a bad influence on ickle wickle Christian kiddies.

That's so stupid. Its happened to me before, though. I was in Wal-Mart buying my kid brother some of those jelly beans based on the series and this woman comes up to me and tells me that I shouldn't buy those because they support satanic beliefs. I wanted to punch her in the face. They're freakin' jellybeans, for chrissake!! The books are fiction as well, get over it!

A suburban county that sparked a public outcry when its libraries temporarily eliminated funding for Spanish-language fiction is now being asked to ban Harry Potter books from its schools. Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction series is an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion.

Board of Education attorney Victoria Sweeny said that if schools were to remove all books containing reference to witches, they would have to ban "Macbeth" and "Cinderella."

"There's a mountain of evidence for keeping Harry Potter," she said, adding that the books don't support any particular religion but present instead universal themes of friendship and overcoming adversity.

In June, the county's library board eliminated the $3,000 that had been set aside to buy Spanish-language fiction in the coming fiscal year. One board member said the move came after some residents objected to using taxpayer dollars to entertain readers who might be illegal immigrants.


Days later, the board reversed its decision amid accusations that the move was anti-Hispanic.

What are you high? MacBeth is the best Shakespear play. Of all the books I read in english class MacBeth is one I liked. Lord of the flies. Catcher in the rye. Those other ones that I can't remember.

For the more extreme or fundamentalist flavors of Christianity, you are spot on. The more average or every day Christian factions tend to be a little more forgiving and respectful of other people's beliefs (unless they're full on devil worshippers).

The interesting thing about Satanism is that they really don't even worship Satan. They're really just giant hedonists who worship hedonism, gluttony and self-satisfaction more than anything else. They just chose to call it Satanism because it very clearly sets them as the anti-thesis of Christianity, which seems to be the bug up most of those particular people's butts.

You didn't like Catcher in the Rye? Anyway, my favorite Shakespeare play is Hamlet. I don't like Hamlet himself but the play is fantastic. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead is a great play also that I read the same year I think.
