Ok, we've seen what Jim Cameron can do with a few hundred million dollars and some 3D.

Give him free reigns over Spidey and watch the money roll in.

There will be less camp dancing too!

James Cameron will not direct the new Spider-man for a number of reasons:

1. Cameron is careful about his projects. His Spider-man would have to be well thought out.
2. Cameron will not sign on for a movie which already has a script and is ready to go.
3. Sony will not sign Cameron because he is a more powerful version of Raimi. He has independent thought, is creative and won't compromise his vision. It took them three years to get rid of Raimi, Cameron is too much for Sony to handle. THEY want control of this franchise, so expect a yes-man.
4. Cameron would be too expensive. Sony wants to do this on the cheap.

There is no way in hell James Cameron would be on board

This is not going to happen...ever. If it does, I will die of shock.

I expect a much smaller director in the chair. No one like Nolan or Cameron.

I've seen james cameron's vision of spider-man, and it was bad. Keep your cameron out of my spidey movies, thanks.

Long time no see, haven't seen you since the olden days following the movie that shall not be named. Happy New Year.

Agreed. James Cameron is past that point in his life. He has a ton of other projects that he is currently investing his time in. I doubt he would toss all those aside for a Spider-Man reboot.

James Cameron had the worst interpretation of Spider-Man ever. Let's keep him away please.

Nolan was very small before batman begins.

I don't agree with your last two points. sony's bottom line is money and cameron has proven to be a cash cow with no supervision, so they (sony wouldn't be put off by the fact cameron would want no interference)

point 4
no evidence sony want to do this on the cheap, they spend hundreds of millions on the third movie and indeed all the movies

not that I'm saying sony will approach cameron but I think sony (and indeed every studio on the planet) would walk over hot coals to work with cameron

Hahahahah movie that shall not be named. That's so fitting.

Raimi quit because he did not want to be a studio puppet. Do you REALLY think that Sony would put up with James "Stay outta my effin' way" Cameron? Like The Scarecrow said, James Cameron is Sam Raimi x10 in terms of wanting to do things his own way. Sony and Raimi split because Sony wanted more creative control, so chances are they're going to get a McG or a Ratner to direct. When the goal is to get a director who will better bend to the studio's will, the only place to go is a downgrade.

I don't care how much money Cameron's movies make, I never cared much for his interpretation of Spider-Man.

Raimi proved that he could make close to a billion dollars off of a Spider-Man movie doing things his own way, and Sony STILL kicked him to the curb for being insubordinate. They will not go to a director who demands MORE creative control, they're going to go to one who does not demand any creative control at all (read: Brett Ratner or McG). For Sony, it's not about how much money the movie makes, it's about how the movie's made. They do not want an auteur, they want someone who will listen to their dumb ideas about how to make everyone happy and yet piss everyone off at the same time.

everyone knows cameron is a massive fan and is between projects if sony DON'T approach cameron I'll be very surprised

for the hundreth time, SAM walked he wasn't fired

Oh, please, you can't know that for certain that Sam was kicked to the curb for wanting control.

I'm not sure why all of you are so sad to see Raimi go. I mean he's a great director, but he did not get Spider-Man at all. His films left alot to be desired in terms of characters.

He walked because Sony wouldn't give him an inch. There's no way they would be compatible with James Cameron, who demands full creative control.

If he was somehow signed on to direct, I'd actually rest easy, but it's not going to happen. As some have mentioned already, we're going to get a "Yes" man.

why on earth wouldn't you GIVE him full control?

Oh sweet jesus. Oh sweet mother tapping dancing Jesus. You people are the most ridicilous people I've ever seen. Half of you wanted Raimi gone in your reviews for Spider-Man 3 and now that's he's gone, you turn coat.

I could blow a blood vessel.

"Yes" men are the worst. :(

Still keeping the faith that this reboot will be good.

But that all depends on the director/story/cast. When all of those are announced in the following week like Sony said and all of them are complete pushovers (mainly the director) I don't expect much but a Fox X-Men situation.

Look at Fox they went back to Singer asking for him to return. Which he did. Although with Raimi I doubt he would return.

But still trying to stay optimistic and hope that they'll hire a good director that won't get pushed around.

The reboot has potential of being a great movie and a different iteration of a character we all love.

I honestly cannot believe you, Billy.

Everything about this screams "HOLY **** WE HAVE A 2012 DEADLINE AND DON'T HAVE TIME TO FIGHT WITH RAIMI, SO WE'LL REBOOT BECAUSE IT'S CHEAPER AND WE'LL HAVE FULL CONTROL".

How can you be so blind?

It's also pretty blind condemning a movie that doesn't even have a director let alone a cast yet. The same goes for saying the reboot will be an absolute success.

Right now its all up in the air but being optimistic about the reboot doesn't make someone blind. Just hopeful.

Being optimistic is one thing. Acting like this reboot is Christ's second coming is another. People are acting like we've had to suffer through three Raimi films.
