There are two extremes, both of which I have experienced.....an audience that laughs and yells and whoops at every ****ing thing that happens in the movie, and the audience that is stone silent and reacts to nothing...no laughter, no applause, nothing...just dead air. Both of these bug me, but often you either get one or the other when you go to movies. I just can not be satisfied. :o

I love rowdy crowds that are into the movie.

The crowds that react are much more fun, even if it is to every little thing.

I hate audiences with no life in them at all.

I usually go opening weekend to avoid those showing where there is only 10 or 12 people and everyone is afraid to laugh.

I definitely prefer a rowdy audience compared to a quiet audience but it depends on two very important factors:

-The type of movie
-The actual number of people in the theater

I love the rowdy crowds because they are a much more knowledgeable and friendly audience to enjoy the company of. Although when I first saw the teaser trailer for Terminator Salvation the room was silent. This was so confusing, especially when it was a crowd seeing The Dark Knight.

Best audience experience I've had was both the 1st time (out of a total of four) I went to see TDK (the audience applauded like crazy when Batman took down the Joker's "laughter" truck, then they went crazier when his Batpod turned off the wall, and finally when James Gordan was revealed alive and stopped the Joker) and the prescreening (my 1st ever prescreening) of Half-Blood Prince (the audience never missed a beat. They laughed when something funny happened, "gasped" when something spectacular happened, and went dead silent when...something big happened near the end)

I'm all about crowd participation. It's the main reason I go to the midnight showings for major releases. Midnight crowds are always the best because it's all fans of whatever franchise it is.

Perssonaly I like the toned down crowd better, but thats the most common type of crowd in my area. I mean if a movie is funny or has a funny part people will laugh. But you will hear very little chearing at all. the most rowdy crowd I've every seen was during LOTR: Return of the King on opening night.

On Transformers 2 my crowd was loud and great, after Prime got killed some dude yelled "**** you Megatron!" it was hilarious, and i went to Up and Ice age 3 ,both in 3D, and they were also great laughing at all the funny stuff and silent at the sad parts, and after the Toy story 3 teaser there was a ****load of talking going around,as for every other movie i´ve seen the crowd is just silent the whole time.

I'm like an old man. I'd prefer a quiet crowd.

I like it kind of in the middle. Sometimes I find rowdy crowds distracting, but I don't like complete quiet either.

Depends.

Great cinema that needs to be appreciated: silence is golden.

Enjoyable movie with a lot of cool parts that is just meant to entertain: the louder the better.

I think this really depends on the type of movie that you're watching. Good comedies or action films are certainly funnier when you watch them with a fun crowd. Though, watching The Dark Knight, and hearing the whole theater collectively gasp when the Joker does his magic pencil trick is a moment I'll remember for the rest of my life.

I don't bother with audiences since I prefer to wait for the DVD so I can actually enjoy the movie and hear what's going on

It depends on what type of movies it's better to watch with an audience.

I saw all three of the Star Wars special editions in packed houses and that sort of thing was quite an experience since we all had seen the movies millions of times.

I saw Freddy vs. Jason in a theater next to a university so all the audience was whooping and hollering during the movie.

when I saw the stupid crapfest Push not a single sound was heard because of how terrible a movie it was.

It depends on the movie. Comedy. Action. Horror. Those are genres enhanced by rowdy crowds. Dramas? Silence is Golden!

I wouldn't like rowdy crowds, but I do like to see a bit of reaction from the crowd. I think it makes the film experience more enjoyable.

I like rowdy crowds. But my old theater acted like ***** the secruity guards. People would laugh and they come over with the flash lights and say can you be quite please.

Most of the time I like quieter crowds, except for comedies where everyone in the theater is laughing.

the crowds that react more are usually the ones on opening night or opening weekend, from my experience. After the first week or two, the crowds that don't react to anything come out.

I'm like an old man. I'd prefer a quiet crowd.

same here.

I like the rowdy crowd sometimes. But its nice to go and see a movie without a lot of people making noise or hittting your seat from behind you walking through the aisle. :o

But for everything, there's a limit.
When I watched Ice Age 3, the kids were overly excited. They laughed and made noise about everything. Ice Age 2 had a more mature crowd when I watched.
