MoviePass, Sinemia, A-List & Beyond - Subscription Theatergoing

They need to give us a way to stream stuff for free.

Back from the dead?

Oh, my God. Moviepass has the answer to save cinemas. By introducing Moviepass!

I used them back when they seemed legit, but fool me once.

They're the fools! We bankrupt them by going to see the movies on their dime!

Lol they would start up again when no one os going to theaters

This reminds me, I need to check on the status of my Regal pass. I had about 5 months left on it when Covid lockdowns started just over a year ago.

Sinemia still owes me $200.
I think that's still the case for a lot of people, unfortunately.

On a brighter note on this topic, I can see the un-pausing of my A-List subscription on the horizon, and it feels good. I was gonna do it this month since I want to see Nobody and GvK in Dolby, but there's nothing in April I'm dying to see, so I think I'm gonna do it at the beginning of May.

But there were still many questions that were left unanswered. Namely, Spikes did not give pricing information for the various plans that MoviePass will begin offering in just a few short months.

Spikes did share that MoviePass will employ a credit system, where credits will roll over month-to-month. Those credits can also be traded or shared with other people. Spikes also suggested that users can watch ads in order to earn more credits.

MoviePass Relaunching Next Summer - Variety

I wasn't expecting MoviePass to be the ones to go down this path but it had to happen eventually.

Time to break out the old Homer Simpson jury duty glasses.

You mean you are shocked that the company that made it nigh impossible to cancel and kept charging your credit card would move into actual spyware?

If I went to the theaters more often I would probably get AMC A List rather than this, but I don’t go enough to justify the $20+ cost each month. I would reconsider though if they made it so you could use one membership to purchase multiple tickets for the same showing.

This really is the problem for MoviePass, regardless of how sincere this revival effort might be: anything they could offer, the big theater chains could just do themselves. If a monthly movie membership could possibly be profitable, it would be *more* profitable if AMC et al cut out the middleman. Which AMC at least has already done. What could MoviePass possibly offer that AMC isn't already offering? "Access to different theater chains" I suppose, except how valuable would that even be for a heavy movie viewer?
