MoviePass, Sinemia, A-List & Beyond - Subscription Theatergoing

So MoviePass is just imploding now lol.

I haven't used mine since the surge pricing was implemented. Pretty miffed about it because the year subscription people don't have to worry about surge pricing and when I signed up there wasn't even a year subscription package so I feel like I'm getting screwed. Probably gonna dump MoviePass before the month's over.

If I had to guess, MoviePass won't make it through the year anyway. Maybe even only a month

Looks like they're doing what I suggested in the last page.

MoviePass CEO says major new films will not be available to subscribers going forward

https://9to5mac.com/2018/07/30/moviepass-no-longer-supporting-major-films/

As reported by Business Insider, MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe said in an all-hands meeting that major movies will not be available to subscribers. Examples include Christopher Robin and The Meg. These limitations are already in place as users noticed this past week that they were unable to see Mission Impossible – Fallout using their MoviePass subscription.

MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe revealed that the app would not make upcoming releases “Christopher Robin” and “The Meg” — the two major releases hitting theaters in the next two weeks — available to its subscribers, and he implied the practice of not offering tickets to major movies would continue for the foreseeable future.

Well, it's been great while it lasted, but I'm thinking it's getting to be about time to jump ship. Anybody here sign up for AMC A-list? If so, how're you liking it?

I'm gonna stay on this sinking ship. I had mine since August of last year and the only reason I got it in the first is to watch indie films. As long as I can still watch those, I should be fine.

Sinemia is another good option even though it's more expensive.

One of my jobs is at an indie movie theater, so I can already see those movies for free. I got this JUST for the mainstream fare I couldn't see there. And also so that I could see them multiple times. Which is now also out. So yeah, there's little incentive for me to hang onto this anymore. I'll have to look into Sinemia.

I cancelled today since my next month was gonna start Wednesday. I wanted to see one more film for the road but then all the films disappeared on the app for all the theaters near me so I cancelled right there. I was with them for over 2 and a half years but enough is enough. Bad customer service, surge pricing, having no money to pay for the tickets, greying out M;I-6, now all movies are gone at the moment. Not gonna have a card for specific types of films either, so the indie only thing is not interesting to me (though I love indies). I'll stick to my amc a list for now.

I think they cut off AMC completely now. App showing no showings for any movies for the rest of the day for any AMC's in AZ for me. I also just canceled right after that unfortunately. It was nice while it lasted, I saw 20 movies with it. I was going more frequently than I ever have and saw more movies I probably wouldn't otherwise have seen (along with a few of the bigger ones).

Officially hitting rock bottom soon?

I just checked my app, and I'm getting that message with ALL theaters in my area, not just AMC.

Have you had any issues with that yet? Easy to use on IMAX/Dolby shows and all that?

The only problem I had was today for some reason it took a couple of tries for the app to consider my purchase as an a-list reservation. Other wise it's been pretty great and easy. The IMAX and The Dolby have been really easy to get and fantastic. I've seen Jurassic World: FK, Ant-Man 2, and Mission Impossible Fallout in IMAX and with Dolby I've seen Incredibles 2, Ant-Man, Skyscraper and Equalizer 2 with it. I hope Regal gets one of these services soon.

My favorite thing is the fact that when i took my mom to see Mission Impossible I got to use my a-list for my seat and then pay for hers out of pocket in the same purchase. Usually when the movie is a family thing I pay for everyone so it was nice to not have to worry about myself.

 Thanks for the info. My theater of choice is AMC (I'm already a Premiere member) so I think I'm about to make the switch.

Though I was just looking at my billing and I literally JUST got my monthly MoviePass charge a few days ago, so I'm gonna milk this last month as much as I'm able to (which doesn't seem like much based on their current issues...) and set a calendar alert in my phone for next month: "Cancel MoviePass Today" lol.

Just checked the theaters in my area and not a single screening is available.

I only go to Harkins or Cinemark (I wish I had a AMC theater around here that isn't complete trash service wise)... but whats funny is Cinemark has their own memebership program but it's useless. It's $9 a month for just one ticket and discounted food. The Cinemark I go to charges $4 for matinee.

There are no more screenings at this theatre today. At four different theatres in my area here in Indiana and downtown Chicago. **** off.

There is a good reason why for all that. It's basically dead.

Today, the only screenings currently showing up are at MoviePass’ e-ticketing partners – around 3% of theaters (or 211 of the 5803 theaters in the United States). Business Insider reports that employees have been told that the next two major studio releases – “Christopher Robin” and “The Meg” – will not be made available to its subscribers. Additionally “the practice of not offering tickets to major movies would continue for the foreseeable future.”

Many users have also reported problems cancelling the service.

I cancelled mine last week and joined the AMC A list. I have seen mission impossible in IMAX twice now using the pass. Liking it so far!

IMHO $20 a month is not a good deal. MoviePass is $10 a month and not just AMC.

AMC's program is not competitive.
Welp, this post sure did age like fine wine. :o

I'm on my 7th IMAX/Dolby screening, and have 2 more on the docket (seeing MI:6 again along with the TDK anniversary). This thing is a cinephile's dream. There's not a single premium screening I won't go to now.

In his defense at first i thought it wouldn't be either until the moviepass morons announcrd peak pricing the next day and then I realised how much I'd save in imax tickets.

Guys, I feel so bad. I was seeing this girl for a while and we left it off on good terms, but right after I saw her for the last time last month she told me she finally got MoviePass after hearing me talk about how much I enjoyed it so often. I just feel like she hates me now all of the sudden, like a cosmic shift has happened. :funny:

There are no AMC theaters really in reasonable distance to me, so I am thinking of just dropping it outright and doing what I used to do and make $5 Tuesdays my movie day again.

Changes are coming. Essentially:

  • Any movie over 1000 screens will not be supported by MoviePass in the first 2 weeks.
  • Price is going up to $15 a month.
  • Peak Pricing will continue to be refined.

I go to an e-ticket theater so I haven't been effected at all. (Knock on wood) $15 is fine, I'll still keep it. Sounds like blockbusters will still be available at e-ticket theaters so I'm good
