Movies You Unexplainably Love.

Avatar

I love it but have a hard time explaining exactly why. I know it's not the most original or intelligent movie. But the visuals just enchants my eyes and the simple story finds my heart. I find myself deeply invested in these strange creatures and their strange world. I think it is that I let myself set intelligence aside so I can enjoy the ride without thinking too much.

Its an overtold story but not a bad one and Avatar does not do a bad job of telling it. The extra few minutes at the beginning of the extended version set up Jake a lot better for me.

Also for tall the Pocahontas comparisons, Pocahontas did not feature a network of bioluminescent treets that combine into a sentient mind allowing "mother nature" to actually be a living acting entity. Nor did it feature Mech suits with knives. Also, while I do get tired of the whole "Sorry about colonialisim" trope, I thought it was interesting that in the future, as today, colonalism is carried out primarilly through corporations.

There's a lot to love about Avatar.

I was going to use Kindergarten Cop as my choice, but then I remembered I can easily explain why I love that movie. It's because it's the balls.

I love Calamity Jane. I seriously have no idea why more people don't love that movie. It's awesome!

Natural Born Killers. Well, I can explain why i love it. But I know that it's a very polarizing movie. But yes i love it and i don't care what anyone says!

Starsky and Hutch (2004)

I strongly dislike Owen Wilson, I can tolerate Ben Stiller, it's a comedy that has a couple of funny scenes but nothing laugh out loud...... but despite all of this I love it.

On the special edition dvd interviews everyone involved takes great pride in it being compared to the "biggest student film of all time." I think that description is accurate but not complimentary.

Coming to America…its a childhood favorite of mine.

Yup, CHILDHOOD favorite.

Newsies.

My friend and I saw it in the theater in 1992, and we were the only people there. We liked it so much we brought some more friends with us to see it again the next night...and even with our expanded group, we were still the only people there.

It's not a good movie. It includes some of the worst New Yawk accents I've ever heard. Christian Bale looks so uncomfortable singing and dancing I always feel sorry for him. The Ann Margaret song deserved the Razzie Award it won that year.

But I love it. The soundtrack is on my iPod and I still know all of the songs by heart. I have it on DVD.

It's about to open on Broadway, and oddly enough, it's about to become a big hit on Broadway. And it's about damn time! (yes, I'm seeing that too)

Vanilla Sky

Any time I feel down, I pop this in. I don't know why. Just makes me laugh and plays with my brain.

KISS OF DEATH

This movie features not one... but TWO of the greatest over-actors in history with Nicholas Cage AND David Caruso. It also features another great performance by Samuel L. Jackson, reprising his role as Samuel L. Jackson. People get punched, shot, and Cage benchpresses a woman. Seriously, how can you not love this ridiculous movie?
