meets girl, someone cheats, utlimately wins in the end... It's ****ing rocky but in a horse race again decent but forgettable but at least it didn't pull a cheap ending just to have a faux deep ending that pander to the pretencious crowd like ****ing Million Dollar Baby![]()

As for Million Dollar Baby, I love Clint but I treat it like you treat any ugly son, lock it in the attic and pretend it never exsisted!
As for Hildago, I liked it, it was entertaining and what not but like I said forgettable, try History of Violence for some awesome Viggo!![]()
I just now watched it because of your review.Absolutely brilliant film.Mr.Webs said:Rope
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
Starring Jimmy Stewart, John Dall, and Farley Granger

This brilliant film is an attestment to how dark Hitchcock could truly be, and how wonderfully diverse Stewart is as an actor, as he plays a role that I have yet to ever see him play before. But, before I say anything else, on to the synopsis, thanks to IMDB.com. - Brandon and Philip are two young men who share a New York apartment. They consider themselves intellectually superior to their friend David Kentley and as a consequence decide to murder him. Together they strangle David with a rope and placing the body in an old chest, they proceed to hold a small party. The guests include David's father, his fiancée Janet and their old schoolteacher Rupert from whom they mistakenly took their ideas. As Brandon becomes increasingly more daring, Rupert begins to suspect. - Now, bare in mind, this film took place in 1948. Then, when you factor in the homosexual undertones of Philip and Brandon's relationship, I applaud Hitchcock for directing a film with such material at such an age of cinema.
The acting is great. It is Stewart and Dall who carry this film, playing their roles extremely well. Stewart brakes out of his typecasted roles of 'nice guy', and becomes a professor who's views on murder are more than frightening, and it's extremely refreshing. And then, we have his speech about justice at the end...I couldn't help but well up a little. John Dall does an awesome job with his character, making him scary, intimidating, and interesting to watch. The rest of the cast is hit and miss...Granger, who plays Philip, is sometimes stale, along with the rest of the cast, which makes the film suffer a tad.
The story is disturbing, macabre, and down right horrible. I wonder how Hitchcock got the film made in the first place. Until the end, there isn't even a moral strongpoint. But, the film thankfully doesn't rely on such shock value to be good. There's enough tension and suspense here to, as the saying goes, cut with a knife. The camera work is beautiful. Now, there aren't any amazingly brilliant shots maybe, but the entire eighty-minute film takes is shot with only nine takes. Nine takes! That's something to behold, and it definitely works with the film. Another thing that works is the fact that the movie is in 'real-time', yet even then, Hitchcock makes the film feel longer, but it never loses it's pace.
It's a great movie, and if just for the masterful ending, I implore you to watch. You won't be bored.
Final Vote: 7.5/10
