Mr. Freeze in Reeves' Batuniverse

Would you guys be more on board if he were just part of the ensemble, and had a smaller storyline? In this movie alone, we have Catwoman, Ridler, Penguin, and Falcone, not to mention any other villains that might pop up. So clearly Reeves is building up a universe, so Freeze doesn't necessarily have to be the main villain in whatever movie he shows up.

Freeze just shouldn't be the main vilain if he's in a sequel. More like Catwoman in this one.

Batman has another vilain he's after, but at the same time this vilain has connection to Victor and the tragedy of his life. So both Batman and Freeze would be after the same guy. Both men fight each other two or three times during the course of the story.

And you end it with a short term team up with both Freeze and Batman to defeat the bad guy. And in the end, Batman convince Freeze to be taken to prison for his crimes. In a thematic way, this would be the first time Batman doesn't conclude a story with his vilain in violence but in respect and also not as an enemy.

I've said it, I see freeze as a kind of cold guy ala Javier Bardem in No country, but not as bad, just that he is on a path of revenge and no one is stopping him with his advanced weapon. Batman would have lived the same kind of path in the first movie, so he has something to teach to Victor.

Why not tease him in The Batman, launch a origin spinoff on HBO. And then he can have a cameo in the movies.

Honestly, since his origin is the only interesting thing about him, I think that giving him a Joker-like movie about his origin would be the best way to go. A tragic love story movie with a dark twist. I can see that working out quite well. Whether it's set in this universe or not idk, it'd be cool if it was but either way I feel it'd work out the best for him.

Who said his origin is the only thing interesting about him? There’s plenty of good stuff that’s not his origin.

Plenty of good movies with sympathetic villains that are in a secondary role, idk.

Intelligent.

So what’s the other good stuff Eddie? Since there’s apparently plenty of it.

My take on the matter of Mr Freeze is sort of an inverse of how people are arguing. I do not argue that Mr Freeze can "easily" be made to fit the "Reeves universe", whatever that actually is or is envisioned to be. I argue that you should use Mr Freeze, because he is an awesome Batman villain who is underused and who is one of the most strongly noir characters in his gallery. . . and that if you *can't* fit Mr Freeze into the setting without breaking something, it is a failure *of the setting*, not of the character. Which is to say, my advocacy for Mr Freeze is based in part on extending trust to Matt Reeves that he is not dedicated to some kind of faux-realism, where Batman can only ever deal with mundane criminals and madmen.

I know it doesn't really have a place in the discussion but I want to throw it out there, I actually kinda liked Arnold Schwarzenegger's iteration of Mr. Freeze. :O

The constant barrage of cheesy ice/freeze/cold puns were also one of the few things about Batman & Robin I actually have a guilty pleasure for liking.

Failure of the setting, haha good one.

I posted this suggestion in the main thread but since this one is dedicated to Freeze, here it is.

For me, this character would work better as a secondary one. With his quality arguably tied to his tragic origin story, he could play a role similar to Dent in TDK. That good guy whose we are witnessing the downfall, more or less caused by the main plot. He would then end up being some sort of a wild card in the last third of the film, a final “surprise” punch after the expected climax, revealing even more to Bruce how his actions and choices are affecting the world around him.

Let's imagine that in the next movie Bruce puts behind him his blind revenge for a larger approach to justice. He could try to do more as a public figure and, per example, meet with other Gotham high society members for a city revitalization project. Victor Fries could be featured here as a promising scientist. We could get a little glimpse of his research and how everything he do is guided by the hope of saving his wife from whatever her illness is.
Later in the movie, without specifically using the Court of Owls, let's just imagine Bruce being targeted in an attack to keep him from trying to clean the city. Fries could be a collateral victim and lose everything on this occasion.
Then, for the last act, interpreting this incident as proof that corruption and mafia methods are still present, "Freeze" now born would embark on a short killing spree against those Gotham high profile figures whom little games caused his loss.
He could even target Bruce Wayne, and why not showing up at the Manor in what would be the very last scene. There might be something very strong about watching Bruce, without his vigilante costume, encounter a collateral victim of his crusade, cursing his name. His parents name. If Reeves chooses to build his story around themes like family or legacy, there might be some interesting scenes to create here. At least in my opinion.

You’re notion that Freeze only works as a solo is weird

It’s weirder that you can’t deliver an example that can make me change my mind.

Like what?

Okay what would he be doing?

Bad guy stuff

Intelligent.
