Ms. Marvel becomes Captain Marvel

The X-Men's Storm

Well why should she be the slimmest with big child bearing hips? Sue Storm's hips have probably already been expanded having borne 2 children (Franklin and Valeria).

Storm is a flyer, she needs to be slimmer when she harnesses the wind. But she also needs to express traits that are traditionally more desirable, hence big child-bearing hips.

Now this is the kind of conversation we should be having.

Lots of women need to express those traits. Doesn't mean they'll automatically have them though. Some women want bigger boobs. I don't see sudden boobtastic growths without breast enhancement surgery.

Storm doesn't need child-bearing hips, but dear god she should have them anyway. [/sexism]

Nor should she have naturally straight hair, but that's more of a racial nitpick of mine.

Wow, check out this Mark Brooks piece

That's how Ms Marvel should look, not this new costume.

Her new costume's pretty terrible. I'm okay with her as the new Captain Marvel, though. She's skirted around Mar-Vell's legacy for her entire existence, only to have it be passed onto others. Some of them were better picks than she is, some were worse, but it's about time she got her turn.

Now let's see how long it takes for her to get killed off and for someone else to take over. :awesome:

Considering her original costume with the scarf was basically Mar-Vell's costume with a bare midriff and legs, she should've just gone back to a costume similar to that.

The Moonstone variant was a good design

I don't think the costume is so bad, but the overall look is pretty awful.

This is a question that obviously will have the answer of "because they need to be hot" but I've often wondered why superheroes/villains often have rock hard bodies when with their powers, they technically don't need to be in that good of shape.

I imagine the act of fighting supervillains is quite good for the body. Even when using powers, all the muscles would tense.

It sucks that Moonstone wore that while posing as Ms. Marvel, because that'd be the perfect Captain Marvel look for her.

I agree. It is a sexy yet iconic costume that recalls Mar-Vell's costume. It looks like a combination of the classic Warbird costume (with the thigh high boots) and Carol's original. The only thing I would change is giving her a bare midriff... well bare from her midriff down to where the top of that blue belt or faux panties begin. :oldrazz:

Why did Marvel have to give Moonstone such a good Ms Marvel costume? Now they've wasted that when it could've been Carol's. They should've given Moonstone this new ugly Captain Marvel costume instead.

Because skin-tight body suits don't flatter love handles?

So because they need to be hot.
Im assuming most of them have a higher metabolism than the average person. Being a super hero often requires alot more physical activity than a normal person would undergo, hence the toned body and muscular strength. Most of them train alot e.g. the Xmen and the Danger Room. At the end of the day it comes down to artist intrepretation. Cyclops' nickname used to be Slim and for decades thats how he was portrayed. Then the 90s hit and they bulked him up for no reason. Since Morrison's run with Quietly redesigning him, there's been an effort to have him back to being slim and thats how he is for the most part but of course different artists will draw him how they feel. Its no different than anyone else

I don't care if Storm's boobs are pear shaped. But visually she could go with slim arms and child-bearing hips.

Captain Marvel instead of Ms. Marvel? Sure, no sweat.

The costume...OK, lose the silly buttons on the gloves, and the sash which has no function, and swear to me that that catsuit will never, ever, ever again be rendered this glossy (totally a fetishist's wet dream, I'm thinking), and we can talk about it.

The hair, though? Massively too butch. At least jaw-length, please, with some swing to it, or sure, go with a long ponytail.

I think it is a ponytail, just drawn pretty badly. She's got a ponytail in the part of the preview where she's out of costume. Unless she chops her hair off later on in the issue, it could be our eyes fooling us.

I just don't understand the need of a full mask. It's space, no need to hide your identity. I'm all for a Carol ongoing but they're going about this visually, all the wrong way.
