MTV developing Scream series

Premiere tonight.

Because Teen Mom matters more.

:o

But on the flip side at such a late time they can technically get away with a little more.

I didn't even know this was happening tonight.

Currently watching! Loved Season 1. Was such a big a surprise to most people. Loved the first season and very excited for this new season.

I watched season 1 on Netflix so it felt a lot different watching with commercials tonight.

It was ok. I wasn't really feeling Emma, who I loved in season 1. I never cared for The Jake. Brooke didn't have much to do tonight but I liked her and her reactions to being on Emma's field trip. Emma's bland love interest was bland. Noah was too pushy and annoying. He's lost his charm. The saving grace of tonight's episode was Audrey. She's the series mvp for me. Bex is definitely the best actress.

The new killer doesn't really do anything for me so far. He/she just feels very generic. Last season's killer had personality from the very first episode.

All of the new characters are so forced that I actually groaned out loud. The new teacher lacks the charm and charisma of Mr Bransen, and the 2 new students we're supposed to suddenly care about felt clunky and forced.

I missed the Sheriff from last season and Emma's mom. Last season the adults had a decent amount of screentime, but that didn't feel the case here. I did like the new cop though. I hope to see more of him.

I felt the teen drama was ramped up too, but maybe that was the terrible WB/CW-ish soundtrack that played over a few of the scenes. (The terrible MTV commercials didn't help the mood for me either).

Maybe the show has always been like this and I was spoiled by binge-watching on Netflix, but these things really stood out to me tonight.

lol this little b**** played a prank on a girl who survived a killing spree, intending to make her feel her life is in danger, and then wants to press charges when she defends herself?

Gurl. Come on. :o

I was surprised Audrey didn't straight out punch that ***** in the face :hehe:

Anyway, the episode wasn't all that special. I called [BLACKOUT]Jake being the one to die in the premiere very soon in the episode. It was always going to be either him or Brooke and the moment he went out alone, you knew he had it coming. Far too predictable. Someone else, let's say Noah, dying would've been far more shocking. But they couldn't do that, because who else would explain the rules for a second season of a slasher tv-show to the public :whatever:[/BLACKOUT]

After every episode, I'm going to post my top 3 suspects for the killer/accomplice. I know we don't have a lot of information on the new characters yet, so I'll mostly be going off what I think they'll do, though I won't be giving any real in debt motives or stories behind the suspects just yet.

1. [BLACKOUT]The new sheriff. He's very nice. A little bit too nice perhaps. He conveniently stops Audrey from filing any report and catching more attention from the authorities. Perhaps so he could mess with her head personally? As a cop, he would have been resourceful enough to plant Audrey's DNA on the mask in season 1. Also he was originally from Lakewood. Present during the first murders? Perhaps the original killer?![/BLACKOUT]
2. [BLACKOUT]The new girl who will tutor Emma. Also too nice.[/BLACKOUT]
3. [BLACKOUT]The new teacher. Branson as the lead suspect in season 1 was a cop out. The nice, helpful new teacher being an actual killer could be their way of trying to surprise the audience.[/BLACKOUT]

Interesting tidbit from an interview with the show runners:

TVLINE | Moving on to the premiere, I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting Jake to be the first victim.

REGISTER | [Laughs] What are you talking about? Jake has a huge storyline this season. … I will tell you this: He is not gone.

GANS | That’s not the last time you’re going to see Jake Fitzgerald.

I enjoyed the premiere. It was setting the table, which is to be expected for a first episode. It introduces some interesting new plotlines and character dynamics. I look forward to seeing where it goes.

All are pretty good guesses. I too felt the new sheriff was a bit too nice and understanding. Good call on the possibility of him being the original killer. That plotline definitely was not resolved and I'd be shocked if it didn't come up again! Also, as a law enforcement agent, he may have access to Piper's letters and the likes.

I was also a bit suspicious of teacher, but I feel like it'll be too similar to Piper. She is definitely being set up as this season's Piper. That makes me think she is a redherring.

As for Emma's tutor, I don't think she will be a killer. Probably will have some skeletons in her closet. But I think she is either there to be canon fodder or to take the place of Brooke and Audrey when they either fall out with Emma or die.

[blackout]As for Jake's death, I didn't mind that all that much. Yeah, it was a bit predictable that either he or Audrey would die as one of the Lakewood 6 had to go to up the stakes. Noah and Audrey are too crucial to the ongoing plot to die so soon and Brooke would've been too big of a blow to Emma's psyche for her to die this early in the season (though I don't think she will make it through). [/blackout]

Other miscellaneous thoughts:

1) I like that Audrey is more central to the killer's motivation/the seeming target than Emma. It creates an interesting dynamic in which the final girl is more of a passive bystander than the target. I hope that this is explored

2) Is it me or is the killer's voice better this season?

3) Seems like Saw-type torture games will be part of this season.

That was actually one of my favorite parts of the episode! It rang true. Its the exact type of ass-backward, self-righteous logic you'd expect out of a high school girl.

I missed this. Gonna have to catch up tonight.

Anyone rate the first episode on a 1/10 scale?

It was a good first episode, almost like a pilot again. Basically just setting up the new story going forward. Excited for the season though for sure. Not too sure yet on who I think the killer may be. Maybe another episode or 2 before I can start guessing. Anyone know how many episodes this season is slated for? I don't remember how many season 1 was.

I laughed at the movie. "Sick of your **** shaming", I'm like, oh, Tumblr made a movie.

Good premiere. Great first kill. Got some good red shirts and red herrings right off the bat.

Also, pink shirt girl, the tutor, is so dead by episode 3.

Season 1 was 10 episodes. I assume season 2 will be the same.

Dear Sheriff's son and Kieran's cousin,

Be more overtly creepy and off-putting. :o

Yeah, they are so creepy that they really feel like obvious red herrings. I am enjoying Audrey having to deal with the killer and Noah. Though I am beginning to wonder what her exact involvement with Piper was. I do like that the killer is focused on Audrey, instead of Emma. Shift the focus rather than it all being about Emma.

It will be one or two killers this season?

I think they might have two separate killers this time. One focused on Emma and the other on Audrey.

I've been wondering the same. This is supposed to be the hunt for Piper's accomplice, but the accomplice might have help of his/her own.

But what if Audrey does turn out to be Piper's accomplice, but turned her back on her and the season 2 killer is actually a brand new killer?

I don't like that there are 2 creepy new kids. Seriously, what is up with the sheriff's son and Kieran's cousin? Goddamn, those guys are annoying.

Anyway, we didn't get a lot of info on the identity of the killer this episode, but I am going to change my top 3 up a little:

1. [BLACKOUT]Still the sheriff, for the same reasons I said after the first episode.[/BLACKOUT]
2. [BLACKOUT]Kieran's cousin. He's weird and might turn out to be a red herring, but I started wondering: Who is this kid's dad? What if his father is actually Brandon James' brother? That would make him and Piper cousins. Murdering cousins? Or if it turns out as I said earlier, and Audrey really was the accomplice in season 1, then he might want revenge on Audrey for betraying Piper, hence why mainly she is being targeted. Sure, it would make the world feel reeeaaally small, but heck, it's not like they never pulled one like this before. Even Scream 2 pulled this **** with Billy's mom being the killer.[/BLACKOUT]
3. [BLACKOUT]The new teacher. She's fishy. [/BLACKOUT]

I agree about the sheriff. The new teacher is just too obvious. She is this year's Piper and the writers are trying to play that up, but in the end, her goal seems to be to get enough information on Emma to write a book or profit somehow (thus the recording), not kill her. Its too obvious. Same with Kieran's cousin and the sheriff's son. Both are so outwardly creepy that they cannot possibly be the killer.

As for the number of killers, I definitely think Piper's accomplice is Audrey. Hell, the show has told us as much. So the new killer is either a third accomplice or a completely independent third party who somehow knows of Audrey's role.

At any rate, last night's episode felt like Part 2 of the premiere rather than an episode that moves things forward. It continued to set up new conflicts and characters for this season. Hopefully the table is now set and the next episode can start moving things forward.

Damn, that episode was boring ass. I can kind of tell this season won't be very good. I hope I'm wrong though. Jake's body should have been found at the end of episode one. Nothing happened in this episode apart from what you could have put in episode one.

I get this is MTV and maybe 15 year olds probably think this stuff is brilliant, but that doesn't mean you lower standards. Season one at least had some pedigree that made it a surprising good time. It never had an episode like this.
