Yeah, it was definitely piling on throughout the movie but I think given his character, Scar showed a resilience to maintain his friendliness and brotherly love. I never got the impression that Scar was jealous of Mufasa, especially when they were cubs, which is an age where jealousy is muchveasier to develop as a character trait.
Scar was a chilled and compassionate dude, perhaps a bit too laid back. Unfortunately, leadership from his dad was poor, often being neglected by him and was never taught anything of value on how to be a good and brave king. Scar deserved better and should have been raised by his mother. It's only after where he felt betrayed by Mufasa over Sarabi that it all came to ahead with Scar having a change in character. I felt bad for him. That moment of redemption when he remembers his mother's words about him finding his courage atoned for his betrayal but the name change would forever mark him (pun not intended) so it just seemed like he was never allowed to be forgiven and to move on. So although he was allowed to stay, he was made to feel like an outcast which was kind of cruel.
As for Mufasa, he was fortunate to have been raised the right way by his parents and then again by Scar's mother and then reunites with his real mother. Both Mufasa and Scar experienced major challenges in life, it's just sad and unfortunate that a moment of jealousy sowed the seed of taking such a compassionate, funny and caring character in Taka and making him into the evil villain he later becomes. Had Scar not felt betrayed by Mufasa over Sarabi, both Taka and Mufasa would have governed the new kingdom together.
