It was more of a one-off thing, but we managed to get our director let a 4-man (3 guys and a girl, but oh well) all-brass group play excerpts from various ska songs (mostly Reel Big Fish) during football games in the stands (our football team sucked, so the band was most of the entertainmentat times). We could only play certain sections without guitar (we could cover the bass parts well enough), but it was still pretty sick for something we set up on a whim, and we were getting to play for the 150+ people at a time.
that's awesome!

Hey, to any hypers that play the electric guitar. What is a good beginner electric guitar? Because I'm buying one soon and need some suggestions. ;)

I borrow my friend's accoustic from time to time, (last night most recently) and play on the sidewalks. If I need money, can do like such. Easy. I've been trying to come up with a way to integrate piano/keyboard into what I do, but the person with the keyboard isn't coming over for a while.

I play guitar and I dabble in piano and bass. I am in a band, but mostly because I just like to play. I'm always outnumbered on everything, because they really aren't into my music, so I'm working on a second band.

I ve been getting into music alot lately, reading up on the retro rock and all that stuff. I'd love to learn how to play the synth like Reznor and base like flea. :)

Well, I've been playing the accoustic guitar for a few months.
I enjoy it quite a bit though I'm not that good yet. My goal is to eventually join a band, whenever that may be.

I'm thinking about buying this, from the customer reviews it sounds like a good guitar for a beginner (aka ME):

I'm not a huge fan of the Fat Strat. I'm more a fan of the Standard Strat, but that's just me. In fact, my first electric guitar was a Red Squier Standard Stratocaster with a Rosewood fretboard. It was a great guitar, but I couldn't get much out of it. I then bought a Fender Acoustic and now I consider myself a decent guitarist. I'm currently in the process of getting a new electric guitar.

Did you teach youself how to play, or did you take lessons?

I taught myself. And for the most part it wasn't hard. It saves money just to ask people for tips here and there rather than getting full on lessons. But, just a question, what do you want to play? What's your style of music?

I really want to be able to play classic rock, metal, and punk at some point because those are my favorite music genres. I have a ton of friends that already play the guitar so I'll have them help me.

The Squier should be fine then. But after you learn and get good, you'll want to trade this in. If it's possible I'd go for a Fender Standard Strat. It's honestly not that much more. It's about $499 and it should last you quite a while. But this is a good learning guitar, but not much more than that.

Myself? I'm getting a Fender Standard Telecaster when I save up the money.

I'm Jimmy. I play guitar. I play in a band: Primal. We play only the most itense heavy metal known to man.

I play mostly Gibson guitars, but I have a few others. I also play VHT amps; they have the most crushing tone right out of the box, no mods.

We play original music, as well as a few covers from PanterA, Offsprings, Iron Maiden, Lynch Mob, and Racer X.

Some of my favorite guitarists are: Randy Rhoads (but you knew that because of my SN, which also dubs for Warmachine's real name, but with a different spelling), Yngwie Malmsteen (seen him live on the Attack!! tour), Dimebag Darrell (RIP), Paul Gilbert, and Eddie Van Halen.

I also taught guitar for a few years, so if anyone needs help, or just wants to talk about gear, let me know.

That Squier is a great place to start. My first guitar was a tobacco burst Squier and I still love playing it because Im really familiar with it.

Taking lessons doesnt hurt, though I think itd be good to switch it up a little bit. Ive had a few different teachers and I think its best that I didnt stick with the same one the entire time and was exposed to different views of playing. Having friends to help teach you doesnt hurt either. Its cheaper..

i am going to learn guitar and once i get good enough, i will indeed be in a band, whether it is mine, or someone elses

i have a squier strat now, and i am buying maybe an ibanez or a dean. I LOVE Dimebag. he is my reason for wanting to play

ps, i would also be a heavy/ alternative metal band, since that is what i listen to

MY first guitar was also a squire

But yeah, I can't think of a better starter, I just wouldn't want to join a band with one.

. . . just sand the "squire" and write "Fender" with a sharpie.
