I used to teach a Basic Seamanship course in the Navy in Victoria BC. At least twice a day the students would organize a Timmy's Run, we would always have a survey up on the board to see the ratio of wins to losses. In 4 years of teaching that course nothing bigger than coffee, donuts, and muffins was ever won. But on average we were right with the chances of winning ratio they have on the cup.
