My Tribute to AL BUNDY

bbundy.jpg
Al, Peggy and the kids went to the "James K. Polk High School". Terry Bradshaw visited Polk High for two months in 1965 (1009). They played on the "New Market Mallers" softball team, which is part of the twenty-store and under mall league. The correct Bundys' home address is "9764 Jeopardy Lane" (112, 211, 402, 513, 514, 517, 519, 521, 524, 608, 609, 620, 621, 625 (on a suitcase), 704, 713, 714, 720 (on Al's drivers license), 721, 722, 725, 804, 807, 811, 815, 824, 912, 922, 1007, 1011, 1022, 1106, 1117, 1122, 1123, The Tonight Show on April 29, 1996) in Chicago, Illinois (720). At certain times, the house number was also shown the wrong way as "9674" (episodes 404, 408, 413, 414, 501, 503, 509 and 510), but in the opening credits from 402 to 415, "9674" is the number of the Rhoades house (which is actually 9766). There's a theory about the two Bundy house numbers: Kelly accidentally knocked down the middle figures and put them up the wrong way; the error was discovered later. The Bundys don't eat vegetables (0313). Their phone number is 555-2878 (episode 304). Al and Peggy married about 1971, on a 23rd of a month (110). Their wedding song was "We've Only Just Begun" (515). "Their" song is "War" by Edwin Starr (103). The pilot of the show was shot on December 12, 1986, with other actors as Kelly and Bud. Then the producers looked for more charismatic actors for the Bundy offspring, and all the scenes with Kelly and Bud had to be done again.

Several amounts of Al's salary are mentioned throughout the seasons (e.g. US$ 3.20 per hour in episode 515, US$ 3.25 per hour in episode 612, US$ 12'000 a year in episode 723 or US$ 30 a day in episode 1116). His shoe store opens at 10 am (301) and closes at 6 pm (218). Al buys clothes at "Bob's Pre-Owned Socks 'n Stuff" (313). His underpants are size 34 (509). He was 'Shoe Salesman of the Year' in 1968 (302). Al scored four (since 501, without the number already in 304) touchdowns in a single game with the "Panthers" (304, 418, 516, 910) on November (318, 418) 17 (318) 1966 (304, 516, 615) versus Andrew Johnson High (516), where his team won the High School City Championship. In that year, he was also Polk High Panthers Most Valuable Player (418) since he also scored the most touchdowns in one season for the team (304). At that time, he was 18 years old (804). Al's football position was full back (304, 305), jersey number 33 (520, 601, 613, 615, 621, 626, 722 t-shirt, 910, 1114, 1120) (but number 12 in ep. 523). His nickname in high school was "Touchdown Bundy" (304, 613). According to ep. 808, he already had a scholarship for college, but he couldn't start to play because of a broken leg. His birthday was given as 11-07-48 (720 - but "23" in 110). In episode 305, he bought his dream toilet, a Ferguson ("the king of bowls", "the Stradivari of toilets"). His favourite toilet paper is "Aurora White" (618, 722 wrapped) and his favourite TV show is "Psycho Dad", shown for the first time in 501 on Fox (823). It was definitely cancelled in ep. 914. Al has to cry when he listens to the theme of 'Lassie' (811, 1116) or watches 'Shenandoah' (623), 'Shane' (105) or 'Bambi' (612). He even cried once after a TV commercial (105). Al likes his pizza with extra cheese (505, 726). He never gets the chance to watch 'Hondo' on TV (222, 824). By mistake there is a Lakeside Mall sign in front of Al's store in ep. 726. The Lakeside Mall was the competitor of Al's mall in 213, but Al had to work there as a Santa in 712. His favourite swear is "Gadzooks" (from "God's hooks", ie the nails on the cross). He calls a bread roll "humma" (eg 1012). Al's favourite food are "Weenie Tots" (517, 1026, 1101, 1120, 1124). His name was spelled or pronounced the wrong way often: Al Bumby (108), Alf Bundy (418), Al Budny (821), Al Boondy (902) or Al Birdie (911).

Peggy's red hair used to be brunette (615). In episode 513 we learn, that the village of Tanoose, Wisconsin, is close to that county. Peggy's favourite bra is called "Fancy Figure 327" (306), cup size 36-C. She was Miss Teenage Wanker (1113). Her birthday is April (703, 1116) 12 (1116). She is as old as Al (705). She graduates from high school in episode 421! The character doesn't appear in 513, 525 and some more episodes. Katey Sagal was pregnant in real life as Peggy was in the first half of the sixth season. Unfortunately Katey miscarried, so Peggy can only be heard in ep. 607 and doesn't appear at all from ep. 608 to 610. Katey was reportedly willing to continue the story line, but the producers decided against it. In the episode "Al Bundy, Shoe Dick" (611), Peggy's pregnancy was explained as a bad dream. In the beginning of season nine and in the middle of season ten Katey is pregnant again, so Peggy's belly wasn't shown during that time (901-904 and 1016-1019). Peggy doesn't appear at all from ep. 1020 to 1025. Her mystery pack, whose hallucinating content is eaten by the band Anthrax in ep. 619, appears for the first time in ep. 415. A bag of a store she worked at in ep. 108 (Muldin's) appears in ep. 723. Peggy plays accordion (503, 512, 619) and concertina (908). She used to smoke until ep. 423. An example of her unique stiletto walk can be admired in 217. Wanker County is called Olbie Wooba Possum Watamee - Land of the Big Gassy Possum. Peggy's mom calls her Margaret in 1002, 1008 and 1010, and so does her dad in 1010. Al calls her "Pookie" (eg 1006).

Kelly's birthday was given as November 27 (703) (but May in 321 and February in 420). Al calls her "pumpkin" for the first time in episode 208. In episode 1107 we learn that she was conceived on the day of Al's four touchdowns triumph, but then she would be much older. Her first boyfriend was Mikey Clemens (1110). She likes Garfield cartoons (e.g. 416, 506, 518). Kelly used to be a smart character until episode 208 where she had no problems to pass the driver's license test. But after that her IQ falls drops significantly and from episode 214 on she's tremendously dumb. Kelly got her first job as a dancer in a rock video (414), and in her first serious job she was as the weather girl of a TV station (419). She graduated from high school in 1990 (1008), shown in episode 502, and she started to model in episode 506. Kelly worked as the "Verminator" from ep. 622 to 902. She performed this character for Pest Boys Extermination Co. (Est. 1993, 1-312-555-SCAM (819, 901), 1-800-LEGS UP (808), resp.) from ep. 804 to 902. Kelly is a waitress from ep. 708 to 804 and did her massage license in 1121. Have a look at Kelly's metamorphosis (80 KB) through the seasons. The character doesn't appear in ep. 110, 201, 216 and 525. From ep. 1001 to ep. 1024 Christina Applegate is wearing a wig, because she has short red hair during that time.

Bud's birthday was given as January 22 (703). His middle was given in 806 and 1015, his full first name in 209, 218, 413, 524, 815 and 1115. In episode 502, he became a high school senior (the senior grade is the last year in high school) and he went to college at Trumaine University (Est. 1942) from ep. 711 to ep. 1021 where he makes it into the Dean's list and tries to get to Oxford University. Bud becomes the President of his own "Alpha Gonna Get'em" fraternity in ep. 706 and he joins "Gamma Gamma Sigma Pi" in ep. 804. He worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) from episode 902 on and was fired in episode 1001 as he worked too much. After that he tried to be an agent for Kelly, but he also had celebrity clients like Tina Yothers (1106) and Delta Burke (1121, no appearance of her). Bud played in the soccer team "Reepers" (512, 513). Bud has several (ep. 923) latex (701) dolls. His doll Isis can be seen in ep. 703, 904, 918, 923, 1002, 1010, 1103, and 1120. You can often read that Jamie (played by Joey Lauren Adams) took Bud's virginity (in episode 713), but I think she was only his second girl. In my opinion he had sex for the first time in ep. 521 with Crystal. Watch the episode and you will agree with me. In episodes 904, 923 and 926 we learn that he had sex 4 times so far. I think the other 3 times were with Jamie (713), Dee Anna (725) and Amber (904). This fits with Bud's statement in ep. 717 ('You Can't Miss'), that he had sex twice so far. In ep. 1017 the counter's up to 6. Responsible for that are Ashley (1008) and Esmeralda (1013, not Fawn). In ep. 1021, Bud made love with Ariel, so altogether he had sex 7 times. He is still a virgin in episode 416 after all. Bud has hardly any friends. "Joey" is mentioned in some episodes (101, 217, 418). He shows up in 403, played by David Faustino's brother Michael Faustino. Sometimes some friends show up (320, 706), and he also manages to get some dates through the years. Bud wants to be the evil rapper "Grandmaster B" from 603 to 611. The character doesn't appear in ep. 110 and 525. David Faustino co-wrote the story of episode 1114 (T*R*A*S*H).

According to Al in episode 201, Buck used to belong to Bud. The actor dog playing Buck was originally called Mike, but his trainer Steven Ritt renamed him during season four. After that his name was Buck, too. He was 12½ years old when he retired, which is longer than most briards live. He died on May 28, 1996, at the age of 13. Buck the character dog talks for the first time in episode 421. Peggy is sitting on the couch, asking: What channel is "Wheel of Fortune" on? Buck answers: Uhh, it's seven, just like yesterday and the day before. The voice of Buck was originally provided by staff writer/producer Kevin Curran (except for special episodes, when it was done by Richard "Cheech" Marin (513, 811, 824)). This was not revealed until episode 616. Curran also appears in episode 618 as human Buck. From season eight on, Buck and Lucky's voice was provided by staff member Kim Weiskopf. Lucky's real name is also Lucky.

The Rhoades and D'Arcys live in Jeopardy Lane 9766 (mentioned in episode 1106, but "2524" in 1101 and "9674" in the opening credits from 402 to 415). The house is owned by Marcy (316). Al calls Marcy a "chicken" for the first time in episode 113 [Marcy (looking round): Al, do you see a fish eye anywhere round here?; Al (looking at her wearing just a towel): No, but I see a chicken leg.]. She acts like a chicken eg in 404, 714 and 905. Some campaigns she supported: "Cleaner Greener Chicago" (825) and "Guns for Toys" (1008). In her youth, she had several dogs, e.g. Winkums (614) and Chester (423). Her mother's three husbands committed suicide (101). Her sister is a physicist (419). Marcy has contact lenses (520). The Kyoto National Bank is the greatest bank of Japan (1020). From ep. 408 to 501 Marcy has to work at the drive-in window. She calls herself a Republican in ep. 704 and 925, but in 104, the Rhoades name their dog after the Democrat Bella Abzug. Marcy might have grown up in South Dakota since she once told about a school bus trip to Mt. Rushmore. She first saw Steve when he was running a marathon (0206/0207). Marcy doesn't appear in ep. 218, 409, 501, 515, 525, 607, 609, 618, 708, 1026, 1105 (voice over only), 1107, 1110, 1115 and 1121. Amanda Bearse directed about 30 episodes of Married... with Children beginning with ep. 607.

Steve's middle name is mentioned in ep. 112 (Al) and 926 (Marcy). His last name's spelling can be seen in episode 408 and 410. Steve worked in "The Leading Bank of Chicago", but he was kicked out in ep. 408. At school he used to play accordion (313) and sousaphone (402, 414). His mother lives in Cincinnati (412). He calls his penis "Mr. Mike" (201, 210). David Garrison left the show to further his broadway career. He was not fired. The last show that premiered in the U.S. with Steve Rhoades as a regular character was "Rock and Roll Girl" (414). In the production code order, "A Taxing Problem" (415) is his last show, which makes more sense as he has a dream about leaving in that episode. In "You Gotta Know When To Fold 'Em" (416), his disappearance is explained: he left Marcy to become a ranger at Yosemite (416; pronunciation: Yo'sameetee) National Park. Steve and Marcy's divorce must have happened before Marcy's marriage with Jefferson between episode 511 and 512. Steve's father committed suicide (415). Steve has returned 4 times, in "The Egg and I" (617), "Peggy and the Pirates" (718 as "Rubio the Cruel"), "Get the Dodge out of Hell" (917), and "Radio Free Trumaine" (926). In 917 he was the driver of the Dean of Bud's College. In 926 he was the Dean himself; apparently he had been able to blackmail his former boss to get that position. The character doesn't appear in episode 218, 409 and 413.

bjeff.jpg
Jefferson's middle name is mentioned in episode 908, his last name's spelling in 805, 816 and some opening credits. Marcy married Jefferson in (or before) episode 512. Before that, he was in prison (512, 804) for fraud (512). He was a CIA (1109) agent, code name Bullwinkle (820, 914). He was fired as he couldn't kill Fidel Castro (1109) and he knows Fidel personally (1109). Jeff is also a National Guard lieutenant (1114). At High School, he played the triangle in the band, and he was also a cheerleader (821). The character doesn't appear in ep. 515, 519, 525, 610, 611 and 1115. "Jefferson" is recognized or revealing himself as an actor from "The Love Boat" and "Happy Days" in episodes 622 and 708 as Ted McGinley was on these shows. On "Happy Days" he played a teacher and coach at Jefferson High School which could explain his part's name on Married... with Children. But he could also be named after the TV show "The Jeffersons" on which series creators Ron Leavitt and Michael G. Moye were writing partners. Jefferson's dad was a gigolo, too. He died in a tanning booth (723). His mom was an exotic dancer. She was eaten in the nude by her snake at the airport (723).

F.A.N.G. is short for "Feminists Against Neanderthal Guys" and is NO MA'AM's opposing organization (ep. 814), led by Marcy.

Yes Ma'am is not an organization, but Jefferson changed his NO MA'AM shirt to a Yes Ma'am shirt in episode 809 and 911 when Marcy entered the room. It is mentioned in 1005 again.

Seven appeared in season seven (hence his name), in what appeared to be an attempt to appeal to a more mainstream audience. He has nothing to do with Peggy's pregnancy in early season six. This first recurring character apart from the usual six principals (four Bundys and their two neighbours) was played by Shane Sweet. Peggy's relatives Zemus and Ida Mae come to visit the Bundys in 0701 and just leave Seven there. Zemus' expanation for Seven's name is that they have one, two, three, four, five, seven children. It quickly became clear that the fans were not happy with the new direction or the new character. Personally, I haven't met a single Bundy fan who liked Seven. The writers at first wrote fewer lines for him, and then wrote him out altogether. His disappearance was never explained in the show and is one of MwC's mysteries. Seven's last appearance was on "Peggy and the Pirates" (0718). Until then, he didn't appear in 0710, 0713, 0715, 0716 and 0717. His face reappeared in three later episodes: "Kelly Knows Something" (0823) (his head flies out of Kel's ear), "Ride Scare" (0825) (on a milk carton as a "Have you seen me?" child) and another one (on a balloon over Kelly's head with a big question mark next to him).

Classic Show.

Not many kids my age, 19, appreciates classic shows such as this..

Cool an AL BUNDY thread:up:

Any one remembers the episode
About Al and his friends trying to install a satellite dish and everyone kept
falling from the roof.

Married With Children is the best sitcom ever.

Al Bundy is the champion for every man.

Those sculptures make me think a cartoon series would look pretty interesting, even if the show itself was a cartoon.
