So the report is that the Marvel Schedule for 2014 has 2 films (as per usual) on the docket, one to be released April 4th and another on May 16th. Word is that one of them is the Cap sequel. So the question is what is the other? Iron Man 3 will have been released in 2013 as will Thor 2. Barring a Hulk sequel, that says to me this will be a film about a new character. I'm hoping for a Dr. Strange feature. Thoughts?

I hope it is Ant-Man

If you're talking about the one whose release date was pushed back to 4/4/14, there's a lot of speculation (based on that date) that you're looking at a Fantastic Four reboot in the MCU.

Ant-Man or Dr. Strange. One of those both.
We will find out in about 8 months.
Probably.

I'm still skeptical but hopeful that the F4 rights have reverted, so I am thinking it is a long shot. However, evidence is starting to stack up.

- Speculation that production on a F4 movie had to be underway by or in 2012
- Little to no word on movement on F4 from Fox, just vague statement that they want to do it
- Marvel Studios/Disney's known desire to get properties back, especially F4
- Marvel moving a potential prime release date (either late June or early May) to accomodate a movie in early Spring with a convenient date (4/4/14) only a few short weeks prior to 2012.

It seems like a waste to do the last point to accomodate a Black Panther or Dr. Strange movie

That would be fine with me, as well!

Okay, I need some clarification. Is there actually any real evidence that Marvel intends to release a film on 4/4/14?

If so, that almost HAS to be FF. That's a Sunday and I can't imagine they'd release a film on a Sunday unless the specifically wanted to get the date.

But is there any reliable info that it's legit?

IF Marvel is planning to release a film on 4/4/14, I'd bet my left nut it's FF.

4/4/2014 is a Friday.

Doh! Thanks. I looked at May instead of April. Still very interesting that they're scheduling a mystery movie for 4/4/14 this far in advance.

It's probably wishful thinking on my part but it certainly seems like it could be FF.

Yeah, it certainly is an odd set of circumstances surrounding these dates. They haven't announce either movie for the time slots.

As much as I love the idea that Marvel may get the chance to do the 4 up right, and (better still) integrate them into the same film universe as the Avengers, I'm starting to worry now about the other films that were announced, like Ant-Man, Dr. Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. *If* Marvel sticks to the 2-a-year format, then I don't see any of those films being on the agenda until *at least* 2015.

The optimist in me says that Marvel is ditching the 2-a-year philosophy, though. I remember awhile back that Feige or Avi said that they also planned to do "smaller" films budgeted around 30 mil while the 2 annual tentpoles would try to stick to a 150 mil cap; I'm wondering now if the plan is for projects like Ant-Man, Strange, GOTG (and possibly others like Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Black Panther) to get smaller budgets and still release in the next couple of years, alongside the blockbuster fodder.

I think this is probably the most likely scenrio. If they really do intend to only make two films, period, they'd be foolish to make Ant-Man at all. They've got enough major, established characters that it seems it would be short-sighted to say: "We were thinking about releasing a Hulk film in 2015 but we already had Luke Cage and Dr. Strange on the schedule, so that's not going to happen."

I think we'll start seeing two tiers of films soon: The two big releases that get all the attention and marketing and then some smaller films scattered throughout.

Wasn't Runaways mentioned as an option not that long ago?

I'd be shocked if Marvel were to release one of their high profile properties before the first weekend in May. Especially simply for the sake of a gimmick date. I've seen very little evidence that the number on the calendar has ever really helped a movie open.

I've seen stats that show May as an ideal launch date --- I guess you're getting the jump on the summer blockbuster season, kids are gearing up for the end of the school year, etc. But April is a long shot at best.

Captain America 2 is bound to be one of the two dates. I can't believe anyone thinks there will be more than 3 years between 1 & 2. The other one will probably either be Doctor Strange or Ant-Man.

I thinking Guardians of the Galaxy or The Inhumans could be a good bet.

I would prefer to see the Inhumans introduced via the Fantastic Four - lets hope this will soon be possible...

Why Inhumans? Not trying to be mean here but I mean . . . c'mon Inhumans? I'm not saying we should never see one or it should never be done but I don't think that's something you can just make make and put in April.

Guardians of the Galaxy at least is a much more fun and interesting concept you can play with more and do a fun little space action and adventure.

The problem is I just can't see Disney dropping $100 million or more on an Inhumans flick.

I would think ant man because its currently the only property being worked on that isn't a sequel

In the UK, Iron Man 2 was released in April, so these blockbuster films can be released earlier than May.

Also, if Marvel want to be like a proper studio, they can't just release only 2 films a year. Other studios do more than that, and they aren't all summer blockbusters. They should release smaller films throughout the year so that they can cover the less prominent characters. That would make it more truly like the comic universe.

Pixar is a "proper studio" and they only put out a film a year, two at the most - I would think Disney has a similar plan in mind for Marvel...

Word is that Marvel wants to get into the cosmic story telling after Avengers, and Inhumans was one of the top ones mention along with Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel is gonna do what they want, they are the ones paying for the movies, Disney is really just distributing them.

The Fantastic Four would be the ideal launch point for cosmic stories while still grounding it in humanity. Once audiences have been introduced to the likes of the Inhumans through the FF, they'll be able to more readily accept a movie with just that race. I do hope that the FF will go back to Marvel.

how about the agvners 2? i would love t osee another hulk movie.

Well, with Thor they kinda open door on the cosmic side of the Marvel, and with the Avengers fighting an alien threat, whether it Kree or Skrull or something else, so that will ground it to a human level while expanding on the cosmic stuff they want to do.
