Namor the Sub-Mariner

Could include tongue clicks and chatter sounds, first things I think of for alternative communication underwater for humanoids when you take out telepathy

I've been thinking about something for this movie, let me know what you think:

I'd like that at some point, when they delve into the history of Atlantis and homo-mermanus, they make reference to the Olympians and that they as "gods" had something to do with the evolution of homo-mermanus and the advanced technology that they possess. It would fit with the current precedence set in the MCU by the inclusion of the Asgardians as "gods" that have had an effect in human history.
I'm not saying we have to see the Olympians themselves, just evidence or mention that they had a hand in evolving the human Atlanteans into aquatic humanoids when their civilization underwent the cataclysmic event told by legend (which Zeus is said to have had a hand in). We could see remnants of their "magic" which would actually be advanced technology, and obviously the Olympian gods should be featured in a lot of the architecture of Atlantis itself. I'd like it if Namor's ankle wings would be done as some sort of tattoos or brand, given to him as a princely marking in honor of the "god" Hermes... Anyway you see where I'm going and how I'm thinking it might enrich the background history of their civilization... Thoughts?

I would do Namor as a villain who is tricked by Attuma and Byrrah into attacking the surface world. Think of something like 9/11 and everyone thinks the surface people did it. Everyone is emotional and crying out for blood. Lady Dorma attempts to calm Namor and prevent the attacks. She tells him she doesn't trust the evidence behind the attacks. Dorma is killed and Namor discovers her mistrust is founded. Namor tries to stop the war but is banished when evidence comes forth proving that Namor killed Dorma.

Namor retreats to the surface world and meets father-daughter oceanographers Caleb and Carrie Alexander. Namor falls for Carrie and sees the beauty in the surface world.
When the Atlanteans attack Namor decides to fight for the surface world and defeats the Atlantean strike force.
Namor returns to Atlantis and proves that Attuma and Byrrah were behind the attacks and the killing of Dorma. Namor defeats Attuma and Byrrah and prevents war with the surface.
Namor is returned to the throne and decides to have a better relationship with the surface world. He forms Oracle Inc.
Namor also submits Atlantis into the UN. The UN denies their entrance. Furious Namor walks out of the UN building and runs into Nick Fury...who tells him he can get Atlantis into the UN....if he does something for him.

Not bad.

I could see something like that working out.

thanks I like to weave the comics into the movie

also the movie can be used for a light allegory to the build up to the Iraq war

Excellent premise!! I do hope Namor gets done soon.

Bump. Because I still believe it as a possibility...
Maybe in phase 3?

I really hope we see a Namor film before DC puts out an Aquaman movie. I know, it's almost certain that that will happen given how fast/slow DC is moving.

I was just thinking this same thing yesterday.
MoS might prove to be the catalyst DC/WB needed to get things moving forward again. If so then Aquaman might be fast tracked.

I think I'd give it about 9-to-1 odds against that happening. I mean we're getting Rocket Raccoon before The Flash or Wonder Woman.

WB just started their shared universe. I am willing to bet that we'll hear about new Dc movies at comic con.

You know what? Even if they do Aquaman before Namor, that doesn't mean anything.
Green Lantern was done, poorly, yet that didn't stop us from getting the Nova Corps in GOTG.

exactly...it doesnt matter who comes first

Namor>>>Aquaman. Nuff said.

I can already hear the GA snickering at an Aquaman film... Namor is simply a badass from the start. And a Namor film should come first because he was created first, that's my illogical fanboy logic. :oldrazz:

Either way both should be massively epic in scale, but because they will probably not be massive hits out of the gate, a similar trajectory to Thor is likely. Try to build upon the initial audience with an under-budget film (at first), then increase the scale for the sequel.

Well, the initial plan for Namor was to build it into "Star Wars, under water"... Only, you know, without Jar-Jar.
At least that's what Avi and others were throwing around when the property was at Universal, if I remember correctly.
If it stays like anything along those lines, then it can't be an under-budgeted film.

I haven't read comics in a long time, but I have a question for all Namor fans:

Back in the '70's Marvel put Namor in a pseudo-costume. Don't know how many remember it (or if it's been used since), but it featured blue pants and a blue vest-type top (sleeveless and open in the front). I always preferred this look to the green bathing suit, though I seem to remember it wasn't that popular at the time.

My question is: if/when Sub-Mariner appears in the MCU would you like to see him in his green speedo or his blue "costume"?

I think this would translate better on film than the skimpy bathing suit.

True enough. What I meant was the first film will likely be under the budget a film like this would require to meet it's true potential. To me Thor was a 200 m budget from the start, but being an unknown quantity when compared with other characters, that type of invetment wasn't going happen right away. It got 150 m and the film was a success, so TDW no doubt got a budget increase. We've already heard how much bigger the scale is. Maybe now that the MCU brand has grown even bigger since that point a Namor film would get a bigger budget from the start, maybe 185 m? Anything less would be pushing it though.

I hope so. Any film that involves an under water civilization will have to come with a steep price tag.

I really detest seeing Namor with the X-Men motif on him.

Rest assured that won't happen in the MCU ;)
In the mean time just swap that X belt buckle with a trident, in your mind, heheh.
